Most of the time you hear crazy lead guitar from the 90s it's Marty Friedman. He uses a lot of wide intervals and pre-bends and stuff to make it sound more exotic. It's pretty easy to tell the difference. That was Dave's solo at the end though. Dave's a lot less precise and clean, has a lot less bottom end in his tone, plays more traditional licks with a lot of speed picking.
Marty is amazing but the raw thrash feel you get w Megadeth is all Dave and he by no means is a slouch, just take Holy Wars, The Conjuring and countless others as his soloing masterclass examples. He's the ultimate riffmaster. Dave always played with avant garde guitarists but they are found in the dustbin of metal history after leaving the band, Megadeth is Dave personified
@@SamKhan-kb3kg I was aiming for a more clinical analysis of Dave's style. It doesn't mean it's not good; it's just what it is. I'm not sure why you needed to dump on his lead guitarists. Several of them are still highly regarded in the guitar community, and Marty is certainly still creating great music.
Marty Friedman has played solos in many Tourniquet songs too. Tourniquet is a band that really should be checked out by Vin and Sori. It's a Christian band and has been around since 1990 and still exists. Marty played most of the solos in their Where Moth And Rust Destroy (2003) album and has played guest solos before (1996 The Hand Trembler) and later (2011 The Maiden Who Slept in the Glass Coffin) too. For that 2003 album they didn't have a guitarist so the drummer played all the rhythm guitars on that album and they got Marty Friedman and Bruce Franklin (from Trouble) to play the solos.
Tourniquet is an amazing Band, and you wouldn't know they were Christian unless you analyzed the lyrics. One of the few Christian bands that secular audiences could listen to without feeling weird about it.
Take No Prisoners off of the same album is basically pure heavy thrash metal from start to finish. Riff and riff after riff. I'd recommend that one if you want more of the feel of the end of this song.
This song is based on a book series called Master of the Five Magics by Lyndon Hardy. The trilogy of novels follows the journey of a young mage apprentice as he sets off to, fittingly enough, master the five magic systems of his land. The magics themselves are Thaumaturgy (sympathetic affectation of matter), Alchemy (transformation/transmutation), Magic (enchantment), Sorcery (ensorcellment/illusion) and Wizardy (demon summoning). I read the whole trilogy a few years ago. It's pretty fascinating overall, though the second book gets a bit confusing and long winded at times.
@@robert559 I like Killing is my Business.. a lot, not 100% sure if it's a masterpiece though. Not a big fan of So Far so good so what. It's been a while since I don't listen to Countdown..don't remember it was that great.
@@Morbidous I honestly like KIMB, but aside from two songs and obviously Mechanix it's hard to remember them, because of course it was written hastily. Also SFSGSW, aside from In My Darkest Hour and probably Liar and 502, I don't know, I don't have much memory. That was a sort of transitional album, too. But yeah Peace Sells and Rust In Peace absolute bangers.
One of my favourite also so this is first Megadeth song that i learned to play with guitar compleatly (riffs only). I can still play it by memory becouse there are so many riffs to learn and memorise that it is almost impossible to forget about it ever :D.
Megadeth rocks, and anything from the Rust in Peace album is amazing. Actually, I like this lineup of Megadeth the best, with Nick Menza on drums and Marty Friedman on guitars.
The five magics were actually Thaumaturgy, Alchemy, Magic, Sorcery, and Wizardry. Electricity got put in the song to fill a gap in the lyrics. This is the book.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_the_Five_Magics
I was a huge Megadeth fan when this came out. A few days before the album was released, a local radio station played the first 5 or so songs off the album. This was the song that really made me and my friend take notice. And if you know the order of the songs, that's saying something. Not the main part of the song, but the end of it just blew me away.
I love that you guys love Megadeth so much. One thing that's missing from the UA-cam experience is that when you have the album, along with the lyrics they tell you who playes each solo. So just in case you wanna know, Marty Friedman plays all the solos except the last one which is Mustaine. When you can follow who plays each solo it really helps you identify each guitarists style and sound. A perfect example is Hangar 18 where they take turns. It's awesome!
One of my top five songs from this legendary album that came out when I was in middle school... You should check out Dawn Patrol from this album, it's just bass, drums and Dave singing in this weird British styled voice, lol! Great song though! Love you guys! 🤘🏻
I would argue one of their best performances was "Symphony of Destruction" live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I never realized people south of the border were bigger metal heads than we are. That crowd was lit AF.
whenever i listen to megadeth i imagine a disney villain's musical number, but kicked up to 11. the shit going off in my head could not be and never will be animated or filmed. not many bands can take my imagination for that kind ride. and when you hit mile 2 of your run, when the endorphins kick in, their songs will make you believe you can will your cells to perform outside the laws of physics.

The whole Rust In Peace album is a masterpiece, but this is one of my favorites. And please guys, we need some more Death here, Spirit Crusher or Crystal Mountain would be awesome, Chuck was also a genius and a riff master

Hell yeah... turn this up! Great song! Give me alchemy, give me wizardry, give me sorcery, thermatology, electricity... magic if you please. Master all of these, bring him to his knees... I master five magics...
All out Megadeth: Take No Prisoners, Hangar 18, Holy Wars...Interestingly, the beginning of this song (the slower bass part) is the first real opportunity to breathe on the Rust in Peace album. The album starts out with Holy Ways, Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, then Five Magics. All those songs are 99.9 percent pedal to the metal, apart from Take No Prisoners, which is about 150 percent all the way through. They have some really heavy stuff throughout their career, but there was never anything quite like Rust in Peace start to finish. Technical, razor sharp, precise and furious..
This entire album is amazing - start to end. Probably, hands down, my favorite Megadeth album. I will say - one of my favorite reactions isn't even the music you guys do - but when Sori responds to something Vin says or does - and she looks at the camera. lol Like when he crushed the can - her look at the camera is pure gold. lol So much love between these two!

Best trash song ever. The remastered has better instruments and bass, but the original has more raw vocals.
The drums on Take no prisoner are murderous!! Dave also spits out the lyrics with such vehemence.
