I love Elina, and have seen her many times in person and on HD broadcasts, but I completely disagree with the other comments here. In this performance Garança does not come close, not even close, to the legendary performances of Giulietta Simionato. Check out her 1957 La Scala miracle. Garança's slurs, her lack of stress on certain notes, and especially the lack of pathos in the voice, are unacceptable. And her coloratura, to tell the truth, is very weak here (though she is much better elsewhere). There is no excitement here, compared to what Simionato achieved a half century before. Thank goodness for recordings which keep us honest.

In realta' oltre una certa correttezza e' un'artista molto banale, fraseggio poco incisivo e come interprete piuttosto scialba. Si regge in piedi perché la figura alta e bionda l'aiuta molto. Non ha poi un grande volume.
