BONG PEÑERA with NANETTE INVENTOR: Body and Soul

Famed comedian and singer, Nanette Inventor, (a.k.a. Donya Buding) joins the celebrated Manila jazz artist, Bong Peñera, in an impromptu duet of the great jazz classic, Body and Soul. The clip/track is from a popular TV program, Discorama, back in 1980, hosted by Bobby Ledesma and the APO Hiking Society guys, Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garovillo. This clip,however, only shows Bobby Ledesma introducing the number with Bong and Nanette.
The theme of the show was "RasmaJazz" and Bong was the main guest. Bong also did a duet with Jacqui Magno entitled "Here's That Rainy Day" (clip to come soon as well), and did a solo on the piano performing Johnny Mandel's Theme from M.A.S.H. , Dave Brubeck's Take Five, and The Entertainer as a closing theme. He was interviewed on his current gig then in Angeles City.
The revelation in this show was that Nanette was/is a jazz singer of note, having been mentored by the great Emil Mijares, Bong's friend. It was a bit of info not known then or to many. When asked about it by Bobby, Nanette said, "You know, jazz is a very good foundation. If you can sing jazz, you can sing anything!"
And does she show it in this impromptu number! There was no rehearsal at all. But Bong, already a seasoned accompanist from his C.E.U. Conservatory of Music days, already had this innate ability or sense to read into the other artist's sensibilities, the perfect key for him/her, the tempo, the flow and/or arrangement. And it shows in this clip. Perhaps it is also because seasoned musicians do seem to have some kind of internal communication among themselves.
Early on Nanette joked that in this song she will be the" Body" and Bong will be the "Soul" as Bong, she says, gives her a lot of soul in his music.
Well here is a very surprise, welcome and delightful video: a combination of two unlikely artists, comedy and jazz, blues and samba, from the pen of composer Johnny Green and lyricist Edward Heyman, Body and Soul!

from someone who has been born recently. I am thankful that you posted this video. Never knew that she, Nanette Inventor, has that golden, oh.. it's beyond that.. liquid platinum voice! thank God for her talent. (add to that Mr Bong Penera)

Thanks for posting, I am the son of Emil Mijares and I remember how Nanette Inventor would wow the audiences at the Pension Filipino, those were the days... Bong has always been a consumate pianist, awesome!
