I read “Heaven” twice. My wife was reading it before she went home to be with Jesus. I found “Heaven” to be very comforting to me since I wanted to be with her again.

And in God's time, you will be. For now, however, you must continue to go on with your own life. That is the best way, I believe, to honor both God, and you're beautiful wife. God bless you, Jim, one year later, and Maranatha.

Thank you for sharing the detail of your spiritually guided wisdom. My son went to heaven 23 months ago. My soul aches and cries every day to be reunited with him & be with Jesus. This chaotic life on earth has completely worn me out. I long for the day that Jesus guides me across the finish line to finally graduate from this place.
Jesus has done a lot for me . He saved my wife 4 years ago. He doesn’t hesitate to use even supernatural means to intervene on behalf of Christians. I feel like I have 1 foot on earth and 1 in heaven.

I read his book Heaven a couple years ago, and it really challenged and encouraged me with all the scripture he pulled together. It's about 500 pages long. This interview is tough, because the whole first 1/3 of the book is just laying a foundation, and then he starts answering these type of questions. I think without the the foundation first, it's easy to dismisses these answers as arbitrary.

I'm really glad that my wife purchased the book, 'Heaven.' Randy Alcorn brings out many good points. I want to correct something he said in another interview that has the comments turned off. Toward the end of the interview Randy brought up Matthew 27:52, about the saints that had "fallen asleep in death" were raised. Then he said that was three days before Jesus was raised. But if you read verse 53 with it, it was 'AFTER' Jesus' resurrection that they came out of the tombs. Someone who has studied the Bible as much as Randy I feel shouldn't have made a blunder like that. I still like his work and will recommend his book. He is just as much human as I however, which makes him capable of error.

Amazing and fascinating !!! Thank you so much. I have 3 questions :
    1. Will we still have opinions? Reason for asking is that different opinions leads to argumentations and possible fights.
    2. The time/matter issue: is time in the spiritual heaven different from time on earth. Reason for asking: someone who died 2000 years ago, does that person have to dwell for that long to join in the new earth, or can he fast forward ?
    3. Could hell actually be ‘hell on present earth ‘ ( the era between the Garden of Eden and the return of Jesus)? Reason for asking: someone who is refused to enter heaven is recycled until that person finds his way to salvation. That would fit a reincarnation view well. Just asking without knowing the scripture well enough if there could be any indication in this direction.

9:18 - 9:25 Is Randy referring to when he said in the Heaven book: (word for word) “However, since there’s a different sort of continuity between earthly marriage and the marriage of Christ to his church, there may also be some way in which the intimacy and pleasure we now know as sex will also be fulfilled in some higher form?”
He did write that in the book and I know he is making a guess but I’m curious to know if this is what he is referring to in this part of the video as well as more thoughts he may have on what greater thing sexual relations in this world foreshadow in the next world.

I’m just now really following you Dr. Sean McDowell. I’m curious, do you agree with what your guest is suggesting about heaven or do you purely have guests come on for insight only vs choosing to question or “ debate “ them! I know you have both but do you ever come across someone’s “ point of view “ that you definitely disagree with however choose not to say anything?
I was very interested in this topic however the creditably of the answers seem to be “ fairytale talk” in my opinion within the first 5 minutes. Please do not take me the wrong way but I have listened to John MacArthur, R.C Sproul and Voddie Baucum who are straight forward biblical truth. From what I recall, they’re descriptions of heaven didn’t sound like all of this. Just curious did you agree with Randy Alcorn? Amanda I couldn't agree more. No I don't believe our pets will be in heaven. Forever is about worshipping and praising our Lord, not placating our temporal fleshly desires. I find the reasoning on 'why there are pets' to be very yes fairy tale talk and not at all theological. I have read his book and much is to be admired; but human reasoning is what bombed out Jehovah Witness. My neighbor has these suppositions, well God is love and He would not burn people forever. Sigh. If you cannot point to a scripture and say definitively there are pets in Heaven, don't go all Disney please. Very disappointing and I too won't be finishing the video, rather will reread sections of scripture. Sean please take this to heart and keep your guests ON POINT with the Word and not opinions. There is already so much out there pulling people from the truth, we just don't need more. (and yes I do realize there is more than eternal praise and worship and I am telling you when I see our LORD face to face, the last thing on my mind will be any of my pets and I have done decades of rescue work!!)

@@sidepot Unlike man, God is not obsessed with this world. This world is a shadow cast off truth by his light. Don't get me wrong, when you say "God I'm tired", or "God this hurts", or even when you're overwhelmed by the beauty of nature and you say "thank you God", he understands. We're overwhelmed by the barrage of this world upon our senses, but behind it all is spirit. If you look deeper, you can see the spirit, and if you learn to see and hear and feel the spiritual, and read the Bible again with this spirit as a guide, your condemnation of God based on misunderstandings of physical events will fade.
If the rational part of your mind rejects what I'm saying, consider this line of reasoning instead: Presume for the sake of argument that God is real. If an infinitely complex God who knows all future events exists, his understanding of morality is by nature superior to yours - while you struggle with fact finding and questions of value and moral dessert, he doesn't. He knows not only what people do, but what they will do, and why. If he exists, you are simply not in a position to judge him morally, therefore your argument is essentially a strawman. You want to simultaneously posit a God long enough to condemn him, but not long enough to realize you cannot, it is a facade of a God you've created to attack, you're not engaging with the idea charitably. So returning to the spiritual statement above, perhaps instead act like this: if a God exists which loves you deeply, ask him to help you understand. If he does, your questions will be answered. If he doesn't, at least you truly tried to engage with the idea.

do you have free will in heaven? does god have free will, cos if i have free will does he have to wait and see what i do before he can react to what i do, or does he know what i'm going to do in advance, cos that screws with my free will, unless i can change my mind, but then god won't know in advance what i'm going to do.....

    • @BalladOfLooks
      @BalladOfLooks 2 роки тому +3

@@HarryNicNicholas Foreknowledge doesn't affect free will at all. Knowing what choices someone will make and controlling those choices are not the same thing. It's similar to the question "Can God create a rock that he can't lift?" The answer is sure, but unless he actually DOES create such a rock, he remains omnipotent. He knows what you'll do, but unless he actually controls what you do, you remain free. There's no problem here logically.

The concept described at 1:01:50 is truly horrifying to me. I don't know how anyone finds peace or love in Christianity. Imagine that my son will have everything that his family loves about him, removed from him until his (formerly) loving family in heaven no longer loves/recognizes/knows/misses him. He will have no more redeeming qualities. Everything good will be removed from him. The logical, reasonable, bible based perspective presented here, makes my skin crawl.

Love you Randy Alcorn and I have ALL your books (signed by you!) but you cannot speak on near death experiences since you never had one.
Look up Randy Kay and John Burke.
They have both written books on the subject and they both had near death experiences. Both had transformative experiences afterwards and became ministers.
That seems to be how you can tell that this was real. (HOW DID IT TRANSFORM THE PERSON’s LIFE?)
dreams don’t transform peoples’ lives, but near death experiences do. You might want to study this more before you speak about it as an authority on the subject.

But rather, that place that Jesus said he was preparing for us, up there, could possibly be the New Jerusalem that will be brought down. It will include his throne of course, but we can’t say for certain that the throne of God and the throne of Christ on earth are one and the same. My 2 cents for what it’s worth.

Even in this life it's not really a good idea to shoulder the choices of the people we love. We cannot control the choices they make. The Bible says God isn't happy that hell has to exist in the first place for humans because he wants everyone to choose to have a relationship with Him. Hell at the end of the day is not being in the presence of God. Being in the presence of God entails you wish a relationship with Him. You can't have one without the other. They are the ones that chose that they do not want to be in the presence of God. Hell is God respecting that choice and themselves having to take accountability for that choice. You can love someone, but if they've chosen to do things that destroy their lives in the process, that was their choice, and guilting yourself with it does no good. We don't like the idea of hell and God doesn't like the idea of hell, but hell needs to exist in order for the respect of humans free will to be honored by God and the respect of God's holiness and sovereignty to be honored by people.

We are created in an embodied form for life on this world, so it is logical that our resurrected future state is to dwell on a transformed, resurrected earth as opposed to disembodied souls floating around in a place called heaven. Where heaven and hell converge, that is where God and his people dwell.

Minute 29:00 Sean brings up the question of, "Why shouldn't Christian's be pro-choice if fetuses go to heaven?" Randy says the same logic would apply for a two year old child, and says that would be horrific, and ask sarcastically, "Wouldn't it be an act of mercy to just kill the child?"
I'm sorry, but based on Christian logic, yes, killing both the child and the fetus would be an act of mercy. This is a big criticism that a lot of atheists have with heaven/hell theology. Luckily, most people have a natural sense of morality that prioritizes preserving human life over securing and afterlife.
But Randy's "objection" is perfectly logical. Yes, killing a child is bad, but is it infinitely bad? No. But is heaven infinitely good? According to Christians, yes. So the costs do outweigh the benefits.
That being said, Christians shouldn't start killing people to send them to heaven. There's a pretty solid chance it doesn't exist and we should value our live and the lives people around us, because we only get one chance to do so.

I think that the assumption, that the God who created heterosexuality is not going to provide something equally glorious, desirable and fulfilling in heaven, is a mistaken idea.
God loves human sexuality, and there is nothing that a husband and wife do RESPECTFULLY with each other in the privacy of the bedroom, that God Himself did not already do in His own mind before He set about creating us.
If God is capable of creating something as wonderful and joyful as sex between a husband and wife, then shouldn’t we trust Him to carry the same kind of joy and fulfillment into His eternal kingdom?
The false choice between sex and God is satanic. In Hebrews 13:4 it is said that ‘marriage is holy, and the bed is undefiled’. But the devil would tell us that we must make a choice between sex and God.
I fear that the tragic consequence will be that those who chose sex will lose everything, while those who chose God will find PHYSICAL fulfillment in heaven that transcends anything that they could’ve ever imagined here on earth.
Our mishandling of sex has been at the root of the human problem ever since Eden; when Satan used the beauty of Eve to entice her husband into rebellion against God.

"But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
"Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus," Acts 3:19-20

I agree with Jesus resurrection being the most important thing, but I worked on a hospital, and saw people clinically dead, hart stopped, brain activity zeroed, for almost 25 minutes, coming back and telling things that actually happened in those 25 minutes, including a car accident outside from the hospital, when the person got back, he asked about the guy in the accident... We went down to the ER and an ambulance just came, the men he described was already dead... I mean I was impossible for they to know each other, they've met outside from their bodies, one came back, the other passed... I will never forget this... There was an atheist college that converted that same day .... Pretty remarkable stuff

Right now, my body is physically disabled and chronically ill. But I can’t imagine once I’m healthy and strong not wanting to be in a sexual relationship. What could possibly be better especially once I am physically and mentally healthy, then a happy life with a husband and pregnancies and children and things like that? Without a signature and mess it up, I’ll have to miss out because it won’t be available in heaven.

    • @gibbsthomas3201
      @gibbsthomas3201 2 роки тому +1

Yes, the Bible tells us is won't be available in the present heaven. However - what about what happens after the present heaven?! What about the possibility of you having a husband and children during the millennial reign on the present earth? Further, what about the possibility of having a husband and children during the eternity phase of life on the new earth?! I strongly believe that you will not miss out. As it was in the beginning, it will be in the end and even better.

@@gibbsthomas3201 Hey, Gibbs. I would like to believe it possible that I could have a husband and experience pregnancy and children and sex and stuff like that during the millennial reign of Christ. I was married and I have two children who are now grown up. But I so long to do this when I have no sin nature and no suffering and no disabilities, and when my husband won’t either. Thing is, he has pre-deceased me by several years so maybe I’ll end up with the same husband or a different one. It’s just that Adam and Eve could’ve experienced marriage and sex and all that fun stuff that life is about before they send. I often cuss them out. I know I shouldn’t, but I often cuss Adam and Eve out because of the things I’ve missed and even though I want to go to heaven and I don’t care what it is I just want to go there, I still feel like man I wish I’d had a chance to experience for us in paradise. Why should there be sports and pets and even technology on the new earth and saints can’t procreate? What a bummer. I had a very small taste of it. A broken, distorted taste, but it taste nonetheless. I can’t really imagine what it will be like to be married to Jesus Christ. I’m not trying to be sensual but I just can’t imagine it. Everything about my life in the new heaven and new earth will be physical except for love? I just can’t imagine how that works. Well, not that Jesus won’t hug us or pat us on the shoulder I guess, but it’s not the same. And I’ve actually read Randy’s book. It’s one of my favorites. I bought it from audible, which is a website with all kinds of neat audiobooks available. Really, it’s one of my favorites. I just can’t get used to the idea that Saints won’t be able to have babies during the thousand year millennium. I mean when I’m finally healthy and able bodied enough to do it and do it right, I’m deny the chance? Oh Lord, I hope not.

  • @gospelfreak5828

On the killing babies for instant salvation thing, one could use that same logic for adult Christians too. “I don’t want them to lose their salvation later on. So I’m gonna kill them now since it’s guaranteed.”

What about the married couples that are currently married here on the current earth? Will they still be married together and live together in Heaven on the new earth?

heaven shows where the mwen who made this stuff up really failed to think about what they were writing... if you believe these myths then you ahve no problem picturing hell...its bad very bad (what kind of a loving god would create hell..thats sick btw)...while he has a very difficult time imagining heaven....apparently theres no sex drinking drugs etc...the thins that we enjoy on earth...you get to see your parents again..thats fine but i enjoy their company for a day or two never mind 546,752,589,123,512,083,127,385,214,668 years...the rest of time wiht family and sucking up to god..that to me sounds like hell...anyhow luckily none of this is real and we just die...which makes this life we have so much more precious than your hopeful magical wishes
