    One of the things about what are your weaknesses is they want to know you’re self-aware and willing to learn. The best thing to do in this case is to find the least import job skill in the description and play that one up as your weakness but also propose a plan on how you can improve it ASAP. You can even negotiate a professional development stipend for it.

      Thanks for sharing! I love the idea of negotiating a professional development stipend. Very creative.

    "Do you have any questions for me?"
    Thank you. Yes I do. It looks like your company was recently acquired by company X in march of last year. Positionally it looks like it has helped with overall company growth and that you also updated your corporate and customer portal around that same time. Does this mean that the company is positioning to go public and if so how do you see that affecting team dynamics?
    Most important is that the entire "interview" should be more in the format of a conversation the entire time. Right from the start. Some(most) people are nervous to give interviews. If you set them at ease, and engage in real dialogue -- pretty much a done deal.

      That's a well-researched and insightful question! Showing knowledge about the company and its recent developments will definitely impress the interviewer. And I completely agree, fostering a conversational atmosphere makes the interview more comfortable and fruitful for both parties. It helps in establishing rapport and facilitates a more genuine discussion. Keep up the great approach!

    Just had my first interview after so long. It was a pre-real interview, it lasted only 10 minutes. Very easy questions about my previous job and why I was there. They told they would let me know before the end of the month for the second more detailed interview.. They were smiling a lot, let’s hope for the best 😭🤞🏻

    Great tips on STAR! The gold standard today!

    Thanks, Heather for your guidance. I have tried to get the interview calls and interviews by following your guidelines. The STAR technique works very well, you are right if a candidate will not explain the situation with a star technique you will fail the interview for sure. That's what I have learned so far. Going to have a face to face meeting next week. Thanks once again.

    Awesome content! I'll use these tips for sure! Thank you so much! I have a question. Have you ever done any videos about the following situation? Someone is doing multiple interviews with different companies and one company has a better offer. How you manage the other interviews? Thank you so much again!

      Hey thanks for watching! I don't have a video about how to manage multiple job offers, but I'll definitely get one made. Thanks for the recommendation!

    What about a time when you had a problem with another employee? What was it & how did you resolve it?

  • @MsSwankie10

    I'm going for an assistant manager position and the problem is that although I have an interview coming up in two days, after I applied they immediately took down the job posting. It's an internal position and I guess after they found those they were interested in they took it down but I don't have an outline of the job description or the type of person they're looking for so all I can do is put my best foot forward.

    In the past 10 years I don't think I have ever had any of these questions asked during an interview. These are GREAT for when you are starting out, but if you have an established career these types of questions really don't come up. STAR is good though. Learn to use it naturally

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  4 роки тому +1

      Yes! You're absolutely correct. Most of these questions are great for a first interview. When it comes to second or third interviews (or a mid career professional) the questions definitely get juicier. Which means your answers have to be even more thoughtful. Thanks for watching.

    How long should your STAR stories be? I’ve been practicing lately and some of my answers are clocking in at 3-4 minutes to really flesh out. I’m afraid I might be over scripting myself.

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  4 роки тому +1

      Hello! Great question. It depends on the question asked in the interview. Make your story as long as it needs to be. Don't add any unnecessary details in there. Keep it clean and concise. I hope this helps!

      @Jsl_516 4 роки тому +1

      Professor Heather Austin Thanks, Heather! I just fear that giving myself longer stories will give me more of a chance to forget something important whenever I actually get a real interview. I feel like an actor rehearsing a script for a play. Very unnatural. But I have been binging your videos lately, and you have such awesome energy!
