I used to think that M.Gira got his style from the guy who plays the devil in the original Bedazzled film from 1968. Dudley Moore sings a happy song and gets a little attention and then the devil sings in this deep, contemptuous voice and the girls go crazy over him. Obviously, this wasn't really his inspiration, but watch it and you'll see what I mean. Michael is like the antithesis of a romantic singer and yet there's something so sexy about his performance.
No. The only ones I have that aren't already are on UA-cam are ones I've already uploaded. I'm still impressed every time I watch this video, mostly because watching a voice like that come out of a person, knowing it hasn't been altered to be more resonant or something, is surreal.
beautyful. Simple, genius to make such a strong song with one chord. ok,1,5 chords. Swans / Skin/ Gira has done a couple of songs like that over the years, maybe thats why i consider Swans my favorite band, though they're "dead" as they say. TRGR66
@TheKnifeWon Nah, not rip off, it's very cool. In fact the bass riff from the Jarboe live version of "I Crawled! in the "Swans are Dead" live 2 CD set (and the same riff used in the current Swans tours) is featured in one of the songs in Gira's "Body Lovers" project. Cool stuff :)
Michael, stop staring into my soul.
but nothing inside you is real
It's just one man with an acoustic guitar, and it's so fucking powerful.
Michael Gira is the only musician I'll ever need.
God. that VOICE. touches me every time
My favorite song from Children of God. I always wondered if this song was ever performed live.

Wow. Amazing footage of one of his greatest.
God, I love SWANS.
this song was my life in grade 11/12 back in 2014/2015. My head was filled with Pearl Jam and Swans at the time
We are the same age

the depth of that baritone hasn't been heard since "Children of God"...where'd it go?

The riff from the lesser knowns "Was he ever alive" is very similar to this one, albeit played with more violence.
This should have been the soundtrack of Lars and The Real Girl
What a fantastic document. Thanks so much to the op.
thanks for sharing, this is a treat. tc
my farorite band during my teens still 1 in fact
omgg fuck that bit at the end... that was frighteningly deathly
this is absolute classic, Swans, and all the 80's underground - wish it could come back as it was back then

@FractalBolt Yes it is! Is it ripping off when it's your own work? Haha. I hadn't listened to that song in a long time.
