@@thestrangemanreturnsI think Prince was the best all around performer/entertainer/musician. Because although there are much better musicians around, I still have yet to see one that encompasses the raw energy, athleticism, all while playing music very well. Was he the greatest musician? Maybe not. But he was pretty darn good and super versatile, and also played different styles of music as well. Funk, Jazz, rock, blues etc... and sometimes all in one song. So when we say he was the best, it is with all this in mind. Not to mention how insanely prolific he was...

@@antonioochoa9209 Prince is my favorite artist of all time and yes I agree he is the best complete main stream overall artist but my point is on the level of musicianship he is not the best. He's great but many better guitarists, drummers, bassists, etc.

Great performance by Prince & the Revolution! You're right, he and whichever band he was with at the time were like this every single show. Prince was known to be tireless, he's sleep only like 4-5 hours a day & was full of energy. I've seen him take over the bass guitar and keyboards in concerts, as well as the drums. He was 100% focused on music. He had endless energy, worked constantly and put it all out on the stage. He did a lot of jumping off the stage speakers, piano & different set pieces & almost always in heels, and he ended up with hip problems later. He was in a lot of pain and that's how he ended up on pain pills. He wasn't a recreational drinker or drug taker & people around him weren't allowed to do that stuff, but unfortunately being in a lot of pain ended with him addicted to pain pills, which ended up killing him. It's really sad.

This has been done in Nice, France, in a relatively small venue during the shooting of his second film "Under the cherry moon". A one-time show he did because he was missing being on stage. It was the second time he performed in France, the first one was in a Paris club named "Le Palace" in 1981.
BTW, I like the tongue-in-cheek humor of Prince making Lisa Coleman (at the keyboards) wear a Soviet general hat in a song named "America". After all, he also did a song named "Ronnie talk to Russia (before it's too late)" in his "Controversy" album...

I heard you say this might not be the actual recording. This is even better, it's directly from the soundboard. Something unheard of in music. It means any mistake would be picked up and it's before the sound is tampered with that directly feeds the speakers.
Basically it's the raw recording of the performance.

Shout out to the Purple Knight Podcast for this one✊. As a Prince fan. This is one of my fav prince songs (even though there is no such thing as a favorite Prince song🙃). This song also reminds me of Eminem who also did a similar song America.

Prince was known to play 19 different instruments. Most of his albums he composed and played all the them and then passed it on to his band to learn.

one of my least favourites when is about guitar playing. So poor image and sound quality and as well. For guitar playing, "Play That Funky Music" (Wild Cherry cover) medley in Los Angeles Forum or the audio of "Just My Imagination" (The Temptations cover) from the bootleg "Small Club".

Below are the lyrics. Prince has said it's straightforwardly patriotic, and I can see that. This was written just before Gorbachev and Reagan began to thaw out the Cold War. A couple of years before this, Prince had a song called "Ronnie talk to Russia (before it's too late)"--we could use a similar sentiment today before NATO gets in a hot war over effing Ukraine, but I digress. Here he seems to say (the lyrics are great!) that America is flawed, duh, but it's freedom was better than much else out there in the world, especially (this was 1985) communism, and we should work to change things when necessary, but remind ourselves to be grateful for what we do have. I salute this sentiment! The studio version is fire, too. (Prince was also a Jehovah's Witness, a sect that was quite oppressed in many communist countries, and this may come into play when considering his staunch opposition to that system.)
    "America"
    Yeah
    Peace!
    Aristocrats on a mountain climb
    Making money, losing time
    Communism is just a word
But if the government turn over
It'll be the only word that's heard
    America, America
God shed his grace on thee
    America, America
    Keep the children free
    Little sister making minimum wage
    Living in a 1-room jungle-monkey cage
Can't get over, she's almost dead
She may not be in the black
But she's happy she ain't in the red
    America, America
God shed his grace on thee
    America, America
    Keep the children free
    Freedom
    Love
    Joy
    Peace
Jimmy Nothing never went 2 school
    They made him pledge allegiance
    He said it wasn't cool
    Nothing made Jimmy proud
Now Jimmy lives on a mushroom cloud
    America, America
God shed his grace on thee
    America, America
    Keep the children free
    America, America
God shed his grace on thee
    America, America
    Keep the children free
    Freedom
    Love
    Joy
    Peace
    Boom, boom, boom, boom
    The bomb go
    Boom, boom, boom, boom
    The bomb go boom.
Teacher, why won't Jimmy pledge allegiance?

I don't say this lightly but Prince was a musical genius and played over 20 instruments proficiently! He was also one of the top ten guitarists ever and his bands are always on point! If you enjoyed this song, you owe it to yourselves to check out other Prince's live performances! I suggest you start with his cover of the song Creep, you won't be disappointed!
Enjoy your trip down the Prince rabbit hole!
