I'd love to see it completely stock BUT with better tyres. Then maybe removing weight, tuning lag away as much as possible, and giving it better suspensions. Simple basic mods, to see how much difference they can make.
I'm surprised at how quick the car is when so many people were doubting it. I liked the previous video as well where you try to communicate the differences of a 'reduction of technology' with the car translating into a great driving experience. I'd love to see more! Maybe in a series where the car goes down a wise upgrade path to show what really makes a difference in times and do some laps in between to show that difference. "Wise" being the upgrades that make the greatest difference per dollar. Thanks for the fun vids!
This cars weakest link is the insanely short gears. I came so close to purchasing but I couldn’t get over the fact that the boost felt like it was over tight as it started in every gear.
@@TandyTerrison I didn't find the gears were that short or close, but that the 6100 redline is too low. Easy fix with a tune, I've heard of it being turned up to 7k without much issue.
I don't usually comment on things, but I feel like the comments and likes are what will get us some more VB content, that being said, id love to see with some other small modifications as well as tires!
Would love to see you modify it with $0, $100, $1000, etc.. and run it again each time to see the improvements. You could also compare different recipes at each price point. Also, I love the forehead mounted shots because it shows your steering inputs, but didnt like that flow being inturrupted with the outside spoiler-mounted shots. It would also be great to add a small picture-in-picture of your footwork in the corner so we can see the timing and coordination better relative to corner apex.
From the BC Legacy RS-RA to the VB WRX, AWD Subarus have a long history of playing in the dirt. Even in this day and age, the Rally heritage of the Subaru shines through.
Love the POV footage on these runs! Someone talented in Blender really needs to make this Team O'Neil test stage in Richard Burns Rally so us mere mortals can have a go at this from home!
Would you consider doing a comparison run with the old blobeye that set the winter time in these same circumstances. Would love to see how old vs. new stack up.
Awesome, I actually like the POV long shots a lot more than the usual style with lots of cuts. I am interested to see what this car can do with a basic tires, dampers and brakes package. Things that are cheap and easy to install while still keeping the car livable as a daily.
OMG YES! Just please make a single change per similar condition lap so we can get a sorta decent idea of how much each mod helps. My bet is that tires, weight loss, bolt-ons make the difference in that order.
My 2011 is at $7000 and counting on it's repair bill right now, as I watch this. I've driven her off road a LOT, and wow, this bill is showing it and I am not even doing all that needs to be replaced. The car can handle it, but expect to wear out a lot of bushings and other wear parts!
A rallycross prepared class type build would be interesting to see. No need for engine mods, just some cheaper rally suspension and rally tires. Maybe a front and rear LSD as well. It would be really cool to see what difference a rear then front LSD makes compared to the open diffs.
I support you guys modding this into a more off-road build. I would love to see it in the hands of an expert so I have something to aspire to and learn from. Then ill bring my WRX down there and we can race. 🤘
Definitely want to see some gravel tires and suspension if its this fast on summer tires. A video series on taking a road car like this and optimizing it further for rallying within a realistic budget would be interesting.

@@TylerLinner That would be the late great legendary Al Dantes Jr. In that Jetta. He moved on to a 2nd Gen rx7 with a LS swap. Sadly he passed away in 22 in a freak accident the night before LSPR.

That would be next to impossible to do, given they cannot be sold in, or brought into this country. Maybe some privateer running in the ARA series will eventually bring in a Rally 2 spec/prepped Yaris GR (now that they exist in Rally 2 form), and let them wring it's neck on this test stage road. 😉 (They get that 'competition car' exemption for ONLY one year of motorsport use here from the DOT/NHSTA, yes, even though they are driven on public roads for the transits.)

Insane performance for 30k with a warranty. High tuning potential as well and mostly reliable, I can't see a better deal on the market overall. Too bad the cladding isn't color matched from the factory or else more people would agree
I’d love to see what difference a set of tires can make. Might be fun to compare chunky winters vs some of the baby A/T (trail) tires that are out there and/or competition spec gravel tires. I’m also curious if there’s an off the shelf suspension solution that would work well for this sort of driving, not just appeasing the MOAR LOW crowd. I know Ohlins makes (made?) a gravel setup for the VA chassis and I considered it for mine briefly but $10k is a bitter pill to swallow there. Maybe Flatout suspension or Feal can provide something. I considered both for my car but I found reliable info/feedback scarce when I was shopping.

There was a 'down the start list', regional rally competition crew campaigning that last gen made of the CRX Si when I was working/volunteering on the New England Forest Rally in '18. They rolled it over a crest on Friday night though, and were out of the event. ☹
Do you use the video to time and your watch just to know while recording? This is the video I wanted after the first one... and yes we want to see you push the car even more :) I think it would make sense to upgrade based on the order people should and show the incremental differences for each upgrade with a focus on daily + weekend track. ie start with tires, don't remove seats so ppl can still daily but maybe change suspension, power, etc. Loved seeing external shots, especially while transferring weight it helped showed the technique. Need a footwork cam :)
The onboard footage is awesome. Though, it would be steadier if the camera was mounted to a fixed location in the cabin like other WRC videos. I suppose this is tricky without a roll cage. And a foot cam would be awesome too.
It would be awesome to follow a build on this car for rally. I mean not full on Reiger suspension, but something everyone could afford wheels tires, etc.

there's not much lag as it's twin scroll, low boost, and larger displacement. Tires will make the biggest difference.

@@TandyTerrisonnot sure if thats the gearing. This engine is purposely tuned for low end torque. Partially due to emissions too
