    This is fantastic! My son and I have been discussing cotton from plant to clothes in home school, and he wanted to try spinning some cotton. This is the perfect way for him to do it without having to buy a bunch of supplies.

    You are GENIUS
    I've never occurred to use a hand spinner for the spinning mechanism.
    I was at a loss to find a way to twist 140m of brittle yarn.
    This is so much helpful! Thank you!🧶

    I would make it stationary and spin it with one hand while holding the roving and drafting with the other. It might be more like a walking wheel on a smaller scale. Hmm...now I have to get that fidget spinner thing. I love the idea.

    Love this, thanks for showing the method of using the fidget spinner on a stationary dowel. A lot less effort than Mayan spinner. Would require even less effot if the stationary dowel (with the dowel going through the center hole) were secured by a clamp or vice grip.

    Fascinating. Absolutely no idea why this was recommended - the ways of UA-cam are a mystery to me - nor why the subtitles are in Norwegian (I'm based in the UK and have no skills with Nordic languages) but it's interesting that old skills can be given a new twist.
    Who knows, next time I take a hike past a sheep pasture I might start gathering wool.
    Keep spinning! 😊

    instead of park n draft, you could hold the spindle between your knees ans spin the FS then draft as it's spinning, yes, you won't get as long a draft as using it as a top whorl but you will get more than park n draft.

    Where did you get the fancy Fidget Spinner like you have with the pointy shapes of the tips? Where did you purchase the fidget spinner that lights up. I would love some of those. maybe Dicks Sporting Store carries them? I love this idea. How thick of a dowel you used for your spindle you have on your video. Instead of using Masking tape, you could get some black rubber grommets that will stay on the dowel where you put them. Tape gets messy after a while.

    Something I’ve been wondering for about a long as I’ve been working with yarn is, would it be possible to spin on a bicycle? I used to turn my bicycle upside down and pretend that it was a spinning wheel for making yarn. Now I actually have a spinning wheel and it seems to me that the yarn would get all tangled in the bike frame unless someone adjustments were made to some part of the bike.

  • @drtareqismail

    Very good idea , but in the 2nd part , the spinner lost it function by the tape and now act as any disc ! Am I correct ?

    • @SnyderSpindles
      @SnyderSpindles  6 років тому

      The fidget spinning free on the shaft would prevent it from being a whorl. So yes it’s just a disc but a disc is what you’re looking for.

  • @TheMatingbflies
    @TheMatingbflies 5 років тому

    Can you tell me where you found spinner with a hole in center. I don’t think I could drill one into any without lies because it would go into the ball bearings, ruining the spinner. I realize they may not be as easy to find now or probably not your exact spinner exactly where you purchased it.
    Thank you for any help you can offer.

    Is it possible to spinn poly fiberfill the stuff in teddy bears?

    • @jaredrosa3415
      @jaredrosa3415 7 років тому +1

      The fiber fill is really short like less than a quart of an inch, it was impossible for me to even create a leader. I'm only a beginner when it comes to spinning though, and I only tried when I first got my drop spindle.
