    The diode makes half wave dc voltage. More than enough to charge a battery. The battery does not care how unfiltered the dc is it just cares that it is dc. Remember the fly wheel and it's magnets create ac at the tap so you need the diode to rectify it to dc. Just thought you wanted to know. Great video and nice puller for those types of situations.

    I use a steering wheel puller, so all the force is on the crank shaft, I also use a impact air tool, but best idea is to spray pb blaster on the crank shaft to clean up the area between the shaft, and the flywheel..... Not an easy job, you did great.

    pulling flywheels are like pulling ball joints.You never want to put that much pressure on the puller .After u have your puller set up tighten it up then hit as close as u can to the center of the flywheel with an air hammer .This method is the easiest best method to remove all types of flywheels .Ive pulled100s of flywheels like that

    • @JoeBlowski
      @JoeBlowski 3 роки тому +2

      @@JeffsLittleEngineService I think bending a rod is impossible when using the rope method on any engine, because I think they are much stronger than the grip of the fastener... unlike the chance of bending relatively fragile open valves on any 4 stroke engine if the rope is not inserted in the particular stroke to have them closed which is either before the top of the compression stroke or after the top of the power stroke depending on whether removing or installing the fastener. Make sense?

    A tip for those having trouble holding the flywheel still. A pipe wrench or pair of vise grips clamped onto the drive pulley underneath and resting against the frame/axle as a blocker.
    But I already took the pulley off, and I was bending and breaking stuff trying to hold the sucker still just trying to remove the nut. Then I dug out the almighty air impact wrench, Bob's your uncle it zips the nut off with EASE without holding the flywheel. And then I stuck the flatbar underneath the flywheel and used the convenient dimple in the center of crankshaft for the air hammer that I also dug out.
    Just wish I had enough sense to do that before I broke a couple teeth on the flywheel :/ hope it won't cause starting issues, but at least everything's loosened for the next _go round_ if I need to replace.

    Much love for manual impacts for where they shine (ancient motorcycles which have JIS case screws...) but a light electric impact is far better for jobs where you DON'T want to bash the part you're removing. If you already own a harmonic balancer or steering wheel puller the good ones are much stronger than the cast Briggs/AYP/whatever part and Grade 8 bolts are cheap.

    I do not see how the hell a puller works on some of these Motors. You get a steering wheel puller just too find you need too pre drill the holes in the flywheel too get the puller too fit. Hammer, and pry bar, with some trans fluid and acetone mixed. Let
    it soak a bit at the shaft, and beat the hell out of it. OK, tap it a bit.

      sometimes the plastic is so brittle from overheating the fins break just when you look at them.

    Sorry but not a good video for a DIY situation. Need to be more direct and accurate in your presentation to leave a feeling of you know what you are doing for those wanting to follow your direction.

    My God Jeff, I Cringed When You Was Hitting The Ratchet And Slipped, Nearly Taking Out The Air Cleaner. Not Good Practice To Do That Sort of thing To Remove The Nut. I Had To Close My Eyes When You Put That Extension Bar In Between The Flywheel Fins and Torqued Down On The Puller Nut. I Thought For Sure You Would Break The Fin Off. Another No No. Some One Has Been In There Before and Broken Half Of It Off and Put It Back Together Like That. That Is Supposed To Be a Complete Round Alternator . You Only Had Half Of It There. If You Broke The Fins On The Flywheel It Can Become Unstable and Also Not Cool The Engine Properly. Be Careful Folks Not To Do This. ( BAD Practice )

    That’s not how you use that tool.

    This is how not to do it. He simply could have snipped an opening for his socket. Bend the sharp edges down. Hammers in my opinion do not belong in a mechanic's tool box. They always lead to problems. P.S. Always turn an engine clock-wise. Never Never counter clockwise. A strap wrench or lg screw driver against the gear teeth to prevent turning to remove the bolt. Duh!

      Why do you say to only turn the engine clockwise? My 3lb. lump hammer is my favorite tool.
