How to Reset AirTag and Pair with iPhone

You can unpair and factory reset your AirTag so you can give away or sell to someone else. We walk you through those steps which includes removing the back cover to replace the battery!

Thank you so much for this video. I was trying to repurpose an old AirTag that had a dead battery. The mistake I made was to remove it from my spouse’s phone before replacing the battery. After replacing the battery, it wouldn’t recognize on either of our phones as a new AirTag. After following the factory reset process however, I was able to Associate it with my phone as if it was a new AirTag. You saved my butt.

I had all these airtags assigned to my wife's phone while my stupid phone took forever to update and allow 2 factor auth. FINALLY have the 2 factor but couldn't reset. Haha. Now my keys will stop making noise when I walk with them! hahaha

Excellent! Small tip, do it until you hear the tone change. Might be more than 5 times if you didn't hold the battery in long enough.

No matter how long I hold it in for it doesn’t chirp.
3 separate air tags with dead batteries, simply trying to replace, same issue. Brand new batteries with 3.24V reading on the multimeter, holding them in at 5, 10, 20 sec and longer intervals with no response. FindMy app doesn’t respond either.

A very good video. Thank you for having it. The only thing with my AirTag to reset it. It actually took eight goes are taking the battery at each time so if you get to 5 just continue a few more times and it should take.
