Reliability is very important to me. A Smith & Wesson 357 magnum revolver was my first reliable handgun. The Heckler & Koch 45 USP and 9mm USP are my current reliable semi-automatic handguns.
I was introduced to HK in the mid 80’s by my stepdad. He was a fan of their rifles. He owned an HK 91. Fast forward 30+ years & I fell in love with the VP9. I eventually bought an HK45 also. I love all their pistols. The USP line is bomb proof. All their guns are for that matter. My grandmother was German. We used to tease her Germans are strong-headed & over-engineer everything! Not a bad thing really.
Hey thanks for the great comment. I’m in agreement with the bomb proof assessment of the USP, it’s a great example of a combat handgun IMO, as are several other brands/ models. I too enjoy and respect the Uber engineering from the Germans , although I think that is slipping on their automobiles but that’s a completely different topic. I generally like the approach the Germans take with product development/ review and engineering but it can be painfully slow at times.
A solid handgun. Wheaton Police Department in Illinois (a suburb of Chicago) issued the USP chambered in 45 for years, up until a number of years ago. They offered their officers the opportunity to buy them back from the department for a nominal fee which was nice. I think they switched to some sort of Glock chambered in 9mm.
It's March, 2023. Just purchased a hk usp 9mm v7 lem.. The build quality, design, it's a tank, yet fairly light. It's got presence and is just different from any other gun I own. Love the way it shoots. 18rd and 30 something rd mags are available..
Yep agree and as I stated in the vid I’m starting to see / hear some signs that DA /SA might be having a small resurgence or at least a solid cult following LOL….which just falls right in line with these HKs. Again if there were more in gun shops, especially the USP compacts in 9mm and the P2000, I think we’d see more people opting for the or at least being considered more than they are.
@@michaelphillips5786 yep agree that’s the going rate and I do get it that it puts it several hundred dollars about the normal but there are a lot of new sigs and other pistol near or at that level.
USP has stood the test of time and I think it will continue to do so👍 I believe red dot sights will peak in popularity and then fall out of favor, especially for concealed carry people. This is why I'm not concerned that the USP isn't cut for optics.. just my 2 cents. (Teufelshund tactical), is a fantastic resource for all things HK . They have a utube channel . They only really specialize in HK.

I believe they are here to stay given all the tech advances and the advances we continue to see. It’s simply easier to stick with all the training work I ve done with irons although I admit as my eye sight degrades with age I can see them becoming a possible need. I know that channel , I need to spend some more time with it.
I just purchased my first gun, for sport xD I know some think its crazy but I just like everything about USP, I were a Glock 17 gen 5 MOS guy Just before that I thought it was going to be but it wasn't meant to be my first, perhaps my second for sport, Can't wait for this journey I also hope to start IPSC but I need more practise
I have the Custom Sport Version in 40S&W. It has a bit better trigger and is fitted with a jet funnel and corresponding 16 round magazine. Great gun overall.
I still don't have a USP in my collection yet, hope to change that some day, these are the GOAT of pistols IMO. Good overview man! I can't get enough HK lately lol, I just did a class with my P30L, went through hundreds of rounds in just a couple of hours, it ran flawlessly. While I don't really have a USP in my "go-to" lineup, just for the collectibility aspect I want one. In the end of the world, what are you going to grab, definitely an HK.

That would be interesting. I think all of us HK fans are aware of their design and engineering concepts and their main focus is still military and LE markets so these other design features we see are lacking. But I see more and more optics on pistols in military work so I wonder how much longer they can go without a slide cut for them on their pistols.
I have the an HK VP9 Match and a HK P30. The P30 is also SA/DA. It is the first SA/DA handgun I have owned and I love it. I ordered a USP V1 and will have it in a week or two. HK is very impressive. It takes them a while to develop their firearms but they seem to get it right. Oh and both the VP9 and P30 have metal magazines. Odd that the USP would be polymer.
Read page 13 in the USP Operator's Manual ⚠️ Only use SAAMI and NATO spec ammo. Do not use Steel, Aluminum or Cast-Lead ammunition. Why question H&K ? Any malfunctions are on you. Not the USP. But good presentation 👍
I have 3 H&k USP 45s. Two are tactical models. Incredible pistols. No point to that TLR3? Get a more capable light. I always felt the 45 model made the most sense
@@reker.a5790 I’m going to have to put them side by side, that just what my memory is pulling. I did notice that the USP full size and compact in .45 moved around more in my hand, but I do have small to medium sized hands, probably need some talon or Handleitgrips on them.
The archaic (I own one, can say it) HK hasn’t changed it in 30 years. It’s the equivalent of WWII Pershing Tank. Get the VP9, simply drop in their ported VP9 Long Slide with new barrel, & you have a far superior firearm. Way over engineered, old as dirt, & would easily use it to trade up trade it for a decent 1942 Walther P-38.
Not sure I’d go as far as archaic but that is the rub on HK but to your point other models to choose from and many options on the open market. Love the over engineering.

@@Catgat37 I go back and forth on .40, the older I get the more I stay with 9mm and for ccw that is a perfectly acceptable caliber, although I also agree for certain needs it’s a better round. I’ve done that on firearms too.
@@thedailydefender1408 9mm is just so much cheaper to train with, since I don't reload. Most calibers are decent enough for self defense depending on your skill level. I wouldn't feel undergunned with my Beretta 81 even.
Yes and interesting that at that time and after the Miami FBI shoot out that it wasn’t chambered in 10mm as that was the direction that S&W was going, although Glock also went .40 at that time if I’m not mistaken.

Completely agree. The HK USP and SIG P series hammer fired guns i think are some of the best combat pistols ever made IMO.

I bought my hk9mm back in 2012 and still have it. What a fantastic handgun.

The jet funnel mags are not oem mags and I don't carry anything but oem mags for defense

I like both of my USP .45s , I do need to bring my HK45 next time as a comparison as I seem to recall it was softer shooting…..

I am not a fan of 40. I bought a USP in 40 for $450, because I knew I could turn a profit....and did.
