  • This is another way to remove a location pin from a hole using simple hydraulic pressure to force the pin out.

Cam - thanks very much for the shout out and kind words, much appreciated. PS Great tip on the hydraulic removal. I have heard of it, but never seen it done or tried it. I nearly cheered at the screen when I first saw the pin start to lift! :)

Any time Craig, it would be great to see your channel pickup more subs and take off, it would be well deserved. Yes I was a bit taken a back when it moved and it worked.

Never thought about using this trick on dowels. Used it numerous times on clutch pilot bearings and bushings (auto mechanic by trade) using grease but not so much on dowels. Thanks for sharing!

Cam i have used the hydraulic method to remove projectiles from rifle barrels when the owner has light charged there bullet . i made up a screw on cap with a grease nipple in it. and the pressure from the grease gun was enough to remove the stuck projectile. :)

I saw the comment on the other video prior to this and thought you may be familiar with this method and chose not to go this route.
This is a method my Father taught me to remove spigot bushes from crankshafts when doing a full job on an engine or replacing a clutch with gearbox out and this can be done under a car. That is if you can machine up the Ram, no lathe a bigger problem.
Good demo of the principals of this Cam, hope you are doing well. John, EC Australia.

Thanks John. I must admitt I hate working on cars now. Did enough of it when I was younger but my back really feels it now that's its not quite as forgiving as the years pass.

@@camatbattler2233 thanks Cam, however if i get my hands on another Datto 1600 then my back may be cured, lol. John.

G’day Cam, you started out using the hand drill because you wanted to show how it could be done in the field, who has a lathe in their service truck, although I have had at times felt even a small lathe would have been handy, 12V battery run hmm that’s a thought.
Anyhow jesting aside well done. Cheers, Peter

Or drill and tap for a grease nipple and just use a grease gun?

Hi, soap and liquid soap also work. Great for removing flywheel spigot bushes

Thanks Ian, your right, any type of thick fluid can be used as a hydraulic medium.

    Hi Cam ,
You can get a needle adaptor that goes on a grease gun (they use them for injecting grease into shielded bearings ) or you can modify one of those needle inflators used to pump up footballs so it can be used on a grease gun . I wonder if you could tap the hole to fit a grease nipple and use the pressure from the grease gun to push the pin out ?

@@AJR2208 I have used the grease nipple method when removing wheels from axles (railrods equipment). Te press load on installation may be well over 100 tons, and pressing off dry after some number of service years can be impossible. Drill diagonally through the hub flange to the axle interface, tap the entry for a nipple, and pump it up. Give it a few hours for the grease to work through and it will press off with less than the original mounting force. Stubborn ones get a hydraulic fitting and pumped up with the 10000PSI (750 bar) pump. I have also used a syringe to pump grease through a small hole.

I have a needle point grease applicator that you could insert into the hole and fill it with grease from the inside out. Neat trick.

Think about doing it on the fly I wonder if a bit of rag would work or just topping it of with grease to seal it

    • @camatbattler2233

You would still need the grease. The cloth is just there to deliver it into the hole.

G'Day "somebody else" I was also trying to think of ways to thicken it like put it in the fridge over night but thinning it through heat would also work. Lots of ways to skin a cat.

G'Day Pdd Pup, yep anything that would get the grease into the bottom of the hole without air bubbles is certainly the way to go. Would make the job go an awfully lot quicker.
