Everyone is thinking about how Joe dropping out will affect the election and I'm here just thinking about how it will effect the next episode of "presidents plays mass effect".
I actually like how "humans are special" trope was implemented in mass effect. Historically we have a lot of examples of how humans successfully adapted to existence threatening circumstances like wars, genocides, epidemics on individual and national levels. This acquired adaptability is what helped Humanity come on top in the face of all of the galactic adversity in only 30 years in ME lore. Asari and Salarians because of their lifespans were unable to predict and prevent the pace of Humanity's development on the galactic scale. And Turian sociopolitical and militarily rigidity leaves only open conflict as a contingency strategy against Humanity which no other Council member would allow. You could argue that Humanity's rise is the next major threar to the galactic status quo (at least the Council space) since Rachni wars and Krogan rebellion. It's a lucky thing for them humans are not that aggressive. So for now the Council is reserved to using Batarians and mandating the humans to settle in dangerous parts of the galaxy as the solution to fast human growth. I'd imagine that if Shepard sacrificed the Council in ME1 and the reapers did not invade, the rest of the new Council members would ease the sanctions on Batarians to prop them up against the empovered Alliance.
I think Mass Effect is the only instance where "humans are special" is generally done in a well-written manner. Nearly every writing prompt you're given today or all these new AI voiced audiobooks of personal projects essentially just has humans as "empathetic" savage conquerors that steamroll through the galaxy, zero nuance, zero reflection on human history, zero discussion on WHY humans are so special in real life. In Mass Effect, besides the Mordin loyalty mission and the Reaper reproduction plot, humans being special is all about just entering the galactic scene at the right time with the right kind of politics and conflicts going on that allows such immediate expansion. War with the Terminus Systems is inevitable, so the Council throws the technologically sophisticated new military guys at the problem by encouraging and endorsing human colonies across the Attican Traverse and even into border worlds in the Terminus. Their war, and following diplomatic military projects with the Turians, made them just threatening and advanced enough to make them capable of going toe-to-toe with any other military in the galaxy if they needed to, especially when they have to constant fight batarians and mercenaries keeps them from going complacent. The best part is that humans are still shown as being people, thus there are good and bad humans. In pretty much all these other "humans are special" stories, humans are nearly all-powerful dictators that speak fluently and spout noble and grand ideas while brutally murdering supposedly evil and very ugly aliens. In Mass Effect, they're flawed just like we are in real life. They have bigots, butchers, corrupt cops, and otherwise. But they still have heroes, teachers, pillars of the community, and so on. Nobody's a god or a disease spewing orc, they're as mundane as they would be in real life.
@californiansniper2133 every alien species in mass effect is inspired by and based off of Human concepts or structures. Humans aren't boring, they're the gold standard from which all other concepts are derived from.
The ME1 codex makes the Asari political landscape sound like an interstellar politics imageboard. Apparently they make decisions by posting in chatrooms and talking things out until a decision is made, with Matriarchs often having significant influence due to their advanced age and status. The Turians don’t seem to have much reach besides being the military of the Galaxy. God, I love Mass Effect lore.

I just want to say thank you for introducing me to this series. My brother gave me a steam gift card for my birthday. I bought MELE while it was on sale and for a while, I never had the desire nor the space for the game. But between your videos and 2TB External Hard drive, I just finished downloading it and will be giving it a shot with Mass Effect 1. So thanks for getting me hyped about this Universe and wish me luck 😁
funny enough if i remember correctly the dreadnaughts arent even the backbone of the alliance navy. yes the alliance uses them alot but pretty sure they subscribe to fighter and bomber dominance through carriers which is what gave the alliance an edge over the turians who want to brute force through stuff with overwhelming firepower. i can only imagine what it must have been like for the first turian fleet to encounter a alliance carrier force as they had to deal with massive swarms of fighters and bombers while the alliance could safely hide behind a planet or moon from retaliation. the only reason the alliance almost lost was because of the numbers and experience in space warfare that humans couldnt match at the time.
yup and the alliance also just circumvented the treaty by making upgunned ships that don't meet the listed qualification of dreadnought but not the one used in the treaty and iirc the battle between humanity and the turians failed before they two fleets could meet thanks to the asaria intervening and asking the turnians calmly what was wrong with them
Really enjoyed the subtler quips about the environment and hegemony and such, great vid. Only complaint would be that Geth should be C-tier for the indirect effect they have even if they don't engage in politics conventionally; their existence still has an effect on the other species of the galaxy and are seen as enough of a threat that they're avoided rather than wiped out since it'd be a huge drain on resources.
The fact that the Asari can have kids with any species, and have them always come out Asari puts them ahead in the long run. Every decade that goes by, a higher percentage of the galactic population would be Asari, until eventually after centuries non-Asari would be a relatively small minority
Not really, this is assuming it is in every species interest to enter relationships with Asari. Sure they live longer but they dont exactly win wars. They find themselves devastated ROUTINELY by any and all conflicts or skirmishes. Their commando squads are powerful and effective in isolated incidents but thats not frontline combat.
@@loserinasuit7880 The sad truth about people is that most of us just focus on looks, and don't think about anything else in relationships... and it is canon that every major species finds the Asari attractive. The desire for alienussy would definitely overtake common sense and politics. The military point is good though, I didn't think about that. In a best case scenario for them, things would remain peaceful for a long time, but if the Turians suddenly launched an invasion, the Asari would be cooked.

The Collectors actually do exist past ME2. The ME3 multiplayer has Collectors that broke free of the Reaper control and are now working on getting revenge on their former slavers.
Damn, I REALLY need to get to watching the two newest PPME episodes. I just know with each being an hour, I'll have so much to comment on and I'm just so crunched for time lately.
Idea for tier list: Rank each planet for a holiday home, rank which race would survive the longest in a lost reaper war/ what their ultimate fate would be.
Humanity is only the weakest of the big 4 council races because they are the new comers on the block. As Donny said, they've achieved so much in record time compared to every other sentient being in the Mass Effect Universe. So much so, some other races may find it worrisome that Humanity might become rapidly become the dominant species in the future. The way I see it, Humans are the jack of all trades between the big 4. They lack the specialization of the other 3, but are by far the most flexible and adaptive species of the bunch.
Great video PrimeRadiancy. Although I think Krogan do need a bit more credit due to the fact that the second the Reapers appeared in force, the Turians came running for help. Which is hilarious given that they remember what happened the last time this happened. *His swift retribution is coming.*
Poor Raloy (however that's spelled). Imagine in the span of a year (?) learning you're not alone in the galaxy, to learning that space is already more or less mapped, then getting caught up in a galactic extinction event. On a side note. I hope ME5 introduces another primate species. I'm tired of humans being the only ones with hair.
Great video. My comment is generally going to refer your previous video - Presidents Play Mass Effect 2 | Episode 6 This is because I wanted to make you aware that at 35:15, you could have had Obama mention about how if you took Morinth, she would start speaking in her natural voice. As we know Morinth will mimic Samara. Maybe you knew about this, if not, I hope you learned something knew. You acn find this by generally searching "Morinth Tuchanka" (Something along those lines)
I feel like there's a case that can be made for putting the Rachni into D tier, at the very least, instead of F. While yes, they require a third party due to their unique communication method and the outright fear they're likely to cause for the hundred or so years... if they survive the reaper war, I think there's a case for the possibility of them integrating into galactic society.
I feel like Cerberus should have been mentioned, people seem to overlook the fact that Cerberus was more technologically advanced than all of the other races and the alliance even before they became indoctrinated. This is made quite clear in ME2, the technology Shepard has access to through Cerberus could never be achieved by the council races or the alliance. And just to put into perspective how absurd it is that Cerberus surpassed everyone else, humanity has only been space faring for less than 200 years, and has only been on a similar level as the other races through the alliance for about 30. And Cerberus only became fully independent from the alliance or “rogue” during ME1, in 2183. So in two years of existence they managed to surpass all of the other races who have been spacefaring civilizations for millennia… that’s beyond incredible progress, and I think that should have added some points for humanity.
Do you think George will make an appearance in the actual playthrough at any point? That could be fun, whether he just spectates/commentates or he's a guest player 😇
Honestly I am super happy that you were able to show how human's may lack in influence over the other races but are still S tier because of our ability to adapt, our tenacity, and our ingenuity. No glazing about us we are the apex of the sol system.
Funny (as usual) and instructive video :) Just to nitpick, given than ME2 events were taken into account it would make sense to take ME3 too. In that case Krogans and Quarians are at least on the Drell level I think, even B tier most likely. Krogans aren't restrained by the Genophage anymore and got some big diplomatic wins, also led by Wrex. Quarians have their homeworld back and are looking at a renaissance period.
i was curious it seems michelle hasn’t talked to barack yet oh no next presidents play is gonna be goated in drama and requires popcorn and large soda when it drops
Kind of a big miss with the Hanar (unless I'm misremembering) but aren't they the greatest linguists? I seem to recall that the translators all the different species use to communicate (as well as members of the same speci who speak different languages) is Hanar tech, and that the Hanar are the ones who keep them up-to-date and add new languages as they emerge.
To Humanity's credit as well Since the council pulled a London Naval Treaty on everyone limiting the size of navies with Dreadnaughts, Humanity pulled up like "we know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two" and brought space-craft carriers in masse, overcoming the disadvantageous position of having little to no Dreadnaughts compared to the Turians
It should also be noted that the Alliance got around the limitation of dreadnoughts by building fleet carriers instead, a stragley unique concept to humans. They're similarly armed to a dreadnought and also contain strike craft.
Tbh I love the various mass effect races and how they really took the time to flesh out and make each interesting and unique with niches that frankly make them hold their own... I still love reapers though up until some of the dumb lore stuff revealed late 3rd game... Like there is some really, really cool ideas attached to them that I wish were explored more... Like especially the idea that each reaper is in a way a collective preservation of the memories, DNA, and culture of a once dominant race/other races...billions of minds made one made effectively immortal, but in a place with purpose to deny "absolute destruction" of all life, and "gifting" others "the honor" of becoming one of them...even if it's all in the most nightmarish context imaginable. Like my personal headcanon after my "noble bright" ending is that reapers simply returned to their old home worlds and just sit like great monuments to people long lost...willing to share their history, secrets, and culture and even "help" but take great care to limit their exposure to the lesser races...Each reaper sort of developing their own mindset and personality based on their old races minds...so varying quite a bit...some artistically carving their races greatest works into the stone of the world using their death lasers...
Very wise decision to have had the pre-recorded prior to recent events, save the thing that happened for the main content. Anyway, I think the asari political structure is overrated. As is so often common with the asari, the system fails to consider the possibility of chaos. When a major war, or if say a famine, or ecological crisis were to break out, the asari don't really have defined leaders to guide through the chaos, nor a real unified government, oddly enough. They run everything in little enclaves, which while it is great for the day-to-day menial requirements, when the greater galaxy comes knocking in a scenario where the asari aren't controlling everything, they flounder. It's not even really necessary, since the codex notes that most asari just defer to the present Matriarch, so build on that. There is a line that Shepard can say that I think encapsulates this "have the asari every actually WON a war?". Now, the immediate retort might be "that's the other species fault", sure, to an extent, but remember, the asari actively try to manipulate other species to their benefit. Crying foul when it blows up isn't really fair. Turians: always have a bigger stick, Humans: trust nothing, Salarians: be prepared for anything, Asari: assume everything is under control Asari are S-tier in regards to current power, but the actual function is like A or B tier, and after the Reaper War, when it's revealed they hoarded prothean technology while making it illegal for anybody else to do it, they are getting knocked down a peg. Salarians probably, too, assuming a cured Genophage.

Humanity can bum rush to the top depending on the actions of Shepard.
Batarians have to be the worst in terms of political strength with the Quarians and Krogan right next to them.
The Volus got the financial reach but are so weak physically in terms of defenses.
The Turians don’t seem to have much reach besides being the military of the Galaxy.
God, I love Mass Effect lore.
if you mess with the turians, you will be greeted with deadnoughts
if you mess with the salarians, they will give you aids or stds
if you mess with the araris, they will bring(forced) their friends and make your planet into a prison
if you mess with the humans, shepard will mess with you
Interesting idea. I enjoyed it big time. Thanks!
2 Prime videos in a week. We're so back

So thanks for getting me hyped about this Universe and wish me luck 😁
funny enough if i remember correctly the dreadnaughts arent even the backbone of the alliance navy. yes the alliance uses them alot but pretty sure they subscribe to fighter and bomber dominance through carriers which is what gave the alliance an edge over the turians who want to brute force through stuff with overwhelming firepower. i can only imagine what it must have been like for the first turian fleet to encounter a alliance carrier force as they had to deal with massive swarms of fighters and bombers while the alliance could safely hide behind a planet or moon from retaliation. the only reason the alliance almost lost was because of the numbers and experience in space warfare that humans couldnt match at the time.
yup and the alliance also just circumvented the treaty by making upgunned ships that don't meet the listed qualification of dreadnought but not the one used in the treaty and iirc the battle between humanity and the turians failed before they two fleets could meet thanks to the asaria intervening and asking the turnians calmly what was wrong with them
It's offically Joever
I thought I was having a fantastic time being drunk as shit, sipping on the broth from my ramen... then you had to drop this. Thanks!
"The keepers are as sapient as Joe on a good day." 😂
Damn I didn't know Christmas was in July
23:57 Barack: "we're onto our last three aliens." Barack casually calling humanity "aliens" and nobody calling him on it.
It's good to see my GOAT, BarDonJoe Shepard, finally taking part in these tier list videos, even if it is just for background footage.
Let’s go the prezzies back to ranking 👊🏼
The fact that the Asari can have kids with any species, and have them always come out Asari puts them ahead in the long run. Every decade that goes by, a higher percentage of the galactic population would be Asari, until eventually after centuries non-Asari would be a relatively small minority
True. It also means that even if there's only one single Asari left - the extinction of the species is still totally avoidable, which is honestly OP
Morinth wasn't lying when she said she was the genetic destiny of the asari.
@@warsmithbrad9897 Shes not lying but shes also not completely correct either.
Hell yeah lore and some debating over the details of Mass Effect politics
Love how you got red shep in the intro now :D Loved woolie and redgies playthrough.
Man, I am so glad AI voices became popular. You found your niche bro, I'm happy for you! Been watching for a while, keep up the good work! Rootin' for you!
Always on a lookout for a notification from your channel. You are the GOAT!
This is fantastic. More of this niche please.
The Vorcha are my favorite race. I love the chaotic 20 year living ass bois.
You know thought occurs racni speak telepathically through other species if they were to integrate into the larger Galactic society say if of them ran a store they would have to hire another species to stand there and talk to their customers telepathically via that person
THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THIS
Haven’t watched the full video yet, but just wanted to say that your videos have been very helpful during a bad time in my life, thank you for making these ❤
Man, I love these ranking videos.
The fact that these vids are very interesting, but also hilarious is a win-win. lol great job.
The Collectors actually do exist past ME2. The ME3 multiplayer has Collectors that broke free of the Reaper control and are now working on getting revenge on their former slavers.
Pretty sure the playable collectors in the multiplayer are just being controlled by Leviathans.
Gotta tell the jury to wait for me, the boys just uploaded
Great video PrimeRadiancy. Although I think Krogan do need a bit more credit due to the fact that the second the Reapers appeared in force, the Turians came running for help. Which is hilarious given that they remember what happened the last time this happened.
*His swift retribution is coming.*
Love how 2 polliticians are instantly out when it is mentioned as topic.
Now that I think about it maybe you should do a tier list of the enemies you fight in the trilogy
Your videos are one of the main things that made me play the Legendary Edition again! Great stuff!
Why not make some more content with the Mass Effect character AIs?
Your Shepard ranking his own crew is one of my favorite videos ever!
Fuck yeah, time for more rankings.
A little snack before the main meal.
I hope that will get to meet new species in the next Mass Effect game while expanding upon their culture, and society.
BarDonJoe for President 🎉🇺🇲🎉
We need a Barack story time where he just goes all out and in depth about all kinds of lore in the series
You know one of those things they forgot to talk about with humanity is that they sidestepped the dreadnought issue with carriers
Another instant classic from Prime. *Amusing.*
Prime could make "The Presidents Rank the Mass Effect Planets" and I'd watch it as much as every other video.
Please never stop making these!
Also possible Presidents rank ME race ship designs?
Great video.
My comment is generally going to refer your previous video - Presidents Play Mass Effect 2 | Episode 6
This is because I wanted to make you aware that at 35:15, you could have had Obama mention about how if you took Morinth, she would start speaking in her natural voice. As we know Morinth will mimic Samara. Maybe you knew about this, if not, I hope you learned something knew. You acn find this by generally searching "Morinth Tuchanka" (Something along those lines)
I swear he literally mentions that
An unexpected Prime drop. God is good
I feel like there's a case that can be made for putting the Rachni into D tier, at the very least, instead of F.
They did it by abusing Reaper tech tho
That's like making a deal with the devil. Every advancement they gain ultimately leads to indoctrination.
Totally unexpected but highly welcome.
Honey, wake up. PrimeRadiancy just uploaded video
The presidents talking Mass Effect is unironically my favorite content rn.
This is an unexpected but pleasant surprise.
hearing this while playing Stellaris is giving me the strangest feeling ever
This is what I’m watching at 4 am… and I’m okay with that.
I'm surprised Joe held back on Donald considering the latest episode.
I'd love a tier list of Mass Effect mods, EGM and everything that goes with it, Take Earth back, Audemus Happy ending mod, stuff like that
"I am Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite AI presidential channel on the Citadel."
Love this series. Will you do a ME2/3 Amors ranking next?
15:52 someone should give Donald example of what Orbital Bombardment looks like current era we be cooked
Im looking at you SW Empire (Legends)
"Until they got put in a blender-" okay that got me
Presidents lore is getting insane.
I really liked this look in to Mass Effect politics
God I love your vids bro
If I remember my lore correctly, humans mostly circumvented the dreadnought treaty by building similar sized fleet carriers
Funny (as usual) and instructive video :)
Just to nitpick, given than ME2 events were taken into account it would make sense to take ME3 too.
Yo how cool would it be for Admiral Hacket or Sovereign to do the disclaimer at the beginning of your videos
Why does Donald keep calling the Drell 'frogs' when they're clearly grasshoppers?
22:38 Did you mean "The humans to stop the Reapers" or is there some lore about Geth attack on the Asari homeworld?
Kind of a big miss with the Hanar (unless I'm misremembering) but aren't they the greatest linguists? I seem to recall that the translators all the different species use to communicate (as well as members of the same speci who speak different languages) is Hanar tech, and that the Hanar are the ones who keep them up-to-date and add new languages as they emerge.
To Humanity's credit as well
Since the council pulled a London Naval Treaty on everyone limiting the size of navies with Dreadnaughts, Humanity pulled up like "we know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two" and brought space-craft carriers in masse, overcoming the disadvantageous position of having little to no Dreadnaughts compared to the Turians
This is a very interesting topic
Joe stepped down to spend more time with the boys, gotta respect him for that.
16:31 Funny, but US foreign policy has been encouraging other (allied) nations to increase the sizes of their militaries for decades.
genuinely love this community and how apolitical the comments are.
Turians: always have a bigger stick, Humans: trust nothing, Salarians: be prepared for anything, Asari: assume everything is under control
Asari are S-tier in regards to current power, but the actual function is like A or B tier, and after the Reaper War, when it's revealed they hoarded prothean technology while making it illegal for anybody else to do it, they are getting knocked down a peg. Salarians probably, too, assuming a cured Genophage.
Need more mass effect stuff like this ai or otherwise
