    I saw one of the first Corvettes to hit the dealers showrooms in1953. Oh I wanted it so bad ! But I was a soldier and soon to be sent to Korea. The price was $ 3000.00 give or take. Some years later, I walked into the showroom and fell in love with the 62. Now they were $4800.00 Well, I still couldn't afford it but I bought it anyway. There were budget problems, but no regrets. it was gorgeous looking from any view and could kick ass with anything on the street, it was red, and now, only a memory, BUT I LIVED MY DREAM.............. You can too.

      john francis That`s some sound economical advice you got there.... "If you see a car you want but can`t afford it,buy it anyway" Seriously,did you catch shrapnel with your head in Korea or something? Your advice to kids is to get into debt they can never get out of so they can "live their dream" to drive a car they can`t afford 2-3 years while in their teens? You were shipped to Korea in 53,so you`re in your late 70`s now? And this is the advice you`re giving to kids?? "Get in over your heads in debt buying a cool car". I seriously doubt a 70+ year old man sits on You Tube (with a scull as a thumbnail no less) telling kids to get into debt they can`t handle. I`m calling bullshit on your whole Korea/Corvette story

      That '59 Stingray (8:20) instantly reminded me of the Mark 5 racecar - and usually heroics car - driven by Speed Racer, in the cleverly eponymous television cartoon series. It lacks the cartoon car's lethally pointed 'guards (fenders), but the long raised feature line over each wheel is certainly similar.

      They can’t make new retro versions. The classics are death traps by modern standards. After all the changes you’d have to make to the design to get them on the road they’d barely resemble the originals.

    • @ohmyblindman
      @ohmyblindman 5 років тому +7

      It was tried with the T-bird. What a flop. It's an idea that sounds good, but doesn't even look good on paper. The major car manufacturers need to sell many thousands of units and there just aren't enough people in the market for the nostalgia mobile.

    • @CrazyBear65
      @CrazyBear65 4 роки тому +5

      Unfortunately, due to Big Brother's fascist rules, all new cars have to have "crumple zones" and airbags, and ridiculously restrictive emissions devices. Thing to do is take the old vehicle, with the vin, and then add some modern brakes, suspension, etc. That way it's still titled as an older vehicle, so they can't make you put airbags etc. in it.

    I remember when a local Business employee bought a new 65 Vette in the fall of 64 , it was yellow with the hard top and finned side exhaust. I'm surprised how little Ed knew about the '53. 300 were built, all red, white and blue. Red sportsman interior, with a two speed powerglide tranny on the floor, polo white body and that 150 HP blue flame six. Of course, you've got all three colours in those lovely hub caps. Built in Flint, MI before the long run in St Louis until 1981. At least he was up to speed on the other cars, and he deserves saint hood for restoring the first Stingray (or is it Sting Ray?), and bringing back that historical moniker for the C7, including the logo!

    Jay...I felt like a kid in a candy store watching this! I used to own a 1971 454 LS5 but for me the ultimate Corvettes will always be the mid 60's. They turn heads where ever they go. The '63 split back in particular is poetry on wheels. You look at it, your mouth drops open and you start to drool! As far as the '59 race car is concerned I've only seen one B&W picture until now so to see and hear it in living colour on high res. is the icing on the cake! So from one gearhead to another thanks!

    Could you imagine? Jay is soooo lucky!!! Had a 1963 split window corvette remote control car as a child, I still have it because I was hoping that GM would do a anniversary edition of the 1963 in 2013 but, some people simply put a graphic stripe down the rear window! I WOULD LOVE TO DRIVE THAT 1963 SPLIT WINDOW WITH THE DESIGNER OF G.M.

    There were only 300 Corvettes produced in 1953, all were powered by the 150 hp triple carb 235 six with a powerglide transmission. The chrome strips Jay points out on the trunk of the 1958 Vette were a one year only feature, as was the fake hood louvres. The 1963 327 FI was 360 hp. 1964-5 was rated at 375 hp.
