I was hurt at work ( my left side of my head and shoulder) causing CRPS ( complex regional pain syndrome) I have had this for about a year and as of 3 or 4 day ago shingles appared ( yes i had CP as a child) on the injured left shoulder 😢. Felt a second time around shingles in my armpit again. It was 6 years ago once. 2 weeks of pain. few nights of no sleep. Felt this second time, swelling and small red bumps. Caught it earyly. My mother had it in the worst way! I couldn’t physically feel her pain but watching her squirm and fight to find a comfortable spot so that she could lie down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever witnessed. I was only 14, my dad had to work and I had to take care of her. I was completely powerless, I still have ptsd from it. She was down for almost 2 months. It was crazy how it can cripple a strong woman. Present day, I just left the ER with my dad and he was diagnosed with shingles. But he skipped out of the ER like nothing was wrong. My jaw dropped, like this isn’t the same version. But I’m glad I know now, that there are different versions. I’m going to get the vaccine in a few months. I caught my shingles within a couple hours of the 1st rash appearing. I went to the ER suspecting shingles, the Doctor confirmed it, and prescribed Valtrex. I'm 35 and the pain started in my left breast on Christmas after full body joint pain chills and lethargy Christmas Eve that left me crying while staring at Christmas presents I was supposed to be wrapping the pain in my breast/nip and into my armpit got so bad by Thursday I started checking for a lump because the pain was horrific and it was shooting through the one side then I found the rash under the bottom of my lady lump.... I'm 42 and have had shingles so many times in the past 5 yrs that I've lost count. I'm told that I can't get the vaccine because I'm not 50. I read that the reason is because it hasn't been tested on anyone younger. I would totally take my chances and get it if I could. I'm tired of suffering from the fatigue, body aches, and missing work from it!
You are right about the reason for the vaccine only being approved for people over 50. There does seem to be an exception for immunocompromised individuals… not sure if that is the case in your situation? I can only imagine how frustrated and tired you must be after getting shingles so many times!!
I’ve been told to get it still but insurance won’t cover it unless over 50. It will help prevent our lessen severity. I’m 46 and have had shingles since age my 20s several times a year. What helped was taking acyclovir daily as a prophylactic.

An OTC called Domeboro worked well in preventing most of the rashes from blistering. After they healed/scabbed, I put Neuropathy oil on the area/nerve that was affected.

I have had 3 ZSH infections, the last one put me in the hospital with myocarditis, it then proceeded to invade my left kidney spleen then pancreatic pain , and abdominal swelling. I had the Shingrix vaccination 3 weeks ago and a week later started developing extremely itchy spots on my skin reminiscent of mosquito bites. Except there were no mosquitos, or other biting insects we could detect. Apart from that my wife, who lives with me and accompanies me most places (we are both retired) and has always been more susceptible to insect bites than me has suffered none of these symptoms. She did not have the Shingrix vaccination.

Apply CASTOR OIL to rash to reduce the pain. Also pepper mint oil is antiviral but patch test first as this oil can feel intense. My rash is receding as I'm on antiviral meds which stopped it from spreading. No scabbing.

I did receive the Shingles vaccination, both doses a little over a year ago. Imagine my surprise when I was told by ER doctor that I had Shingles . I said but I was vaccinated!! I am unfortunately one of the small percent to still get it. It's been a long painful road. I do not wish it upon anyone.

I thought i had a pinched sciatica nerve as that entire area was sensitive to touch. Felt like 3rd degree sunburn Couldnt even let my clothes touch my skin. Awake all night in agony.... now day 5 and the blisters are appearing on my groin and buttocks/lower back. Its a large area and excrutiating. My Doc gave me prednisone and the anti-viral meds. I also use lidocaine after the scabs started. It really helps. I had/have them on my face. When mine started it felt like fiberglass on my skin. My sinuses bothered me for days and I had a headache. It was not too bad. Now that I am healing that pain has gone thankfully. I was worried about spreading it so I went to the Doc. I was told once it scabs over I would not be contagious.
I got shingles 7 years ago and cannot go out of the house due to the post hepatic neuralgia that I have on the left quadrant of the top of my body. I have extreme pain so I cannot wear clothes on the top of my body. If I have to go out to the doctor I wrap a sheet around myself and take the unbelievable pain that comes with that. I have done everything to get rid of the pain. I even have a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my spine that helped a small bit but does nothing now. Have you heard that a hyperbaric chamber may help get rid of the pain? I called the hospital and they said it is not covered under insurance. Of course not !!! If you have any information or contacts with someone that is a real expert I would love to hear from you. Seven years of little contact with the outside world is horrific.. I am so incredibly sorry for your pain and suffering. I had never heard of hyperbaric oxygen therapy being using for shingles, but I searched and found this study using HBO with patients with shingles: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23342765/. This study was interesting as well: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33976752/. So there is evidence to show it can help... but it is not at all surprising that insurance won't cover the therapy. Hugs to you.

My 37 year old son has shingles on his face. He has had covid twice and studies are now showing that covid awakens dormant viruses in the body. He is otherwise healthy, so this is concerning. I hope he never gets this again, awful!
Yes stress, illness, or anything that suppresses the immune system can trigger reactivation of the virus! Maybe he can talk to his provider about getting the shingles vaccine to help prevent future outbreaks?
I got it my dr said cause I got off asmanax which is a steroid Inhaler. I was on it for over a month and she said stress bought it on as well. I heard once u get it u can't again

It is actually possible for no rash to appear while still having the same pain happened to me a year ago noone could diagnose it but since i had shingles prior to this i knew what it felt like got shingles meds and it cleared up.

Both times I've had shingles they have been brought on by burns. I found that only hydrogen peroxide helped me, so I put some capsules in my body wash and in the hand soap. Works for me.

I had an episode of shingles seven and a half years ago now and I still suffer from peripheral neuropathy from it. The rash started under my breast and spread all the way around to my spinal column. I suffer everyday [much worse at night] with pain. I have seen a few doctors and pain therapist but nothing has helped. I cannot to this day stand my clothing to touch this area which is also around six inches wide all around. I have to be very careful how I lay on my side at night as get it wrong and the pain is tenfold. I don’t sleep much needless to say and I am always in pain. When I had the rash it felt like I had been electrocuted when it is really bad. It would come in waves of pain subside then out of the blue strike again. All I could do when the pain hit was to grit my teeth and wait for the pain to pass.Normally it is not that bad but is always there and I am always aware. I do use pain patches which help a bit. I did get the injection on day 2 of the pain before the rash appeared but it did nothing. My doctor told me that if you had a full body of chichen pox as a child then shingles is worse and I am the lucky one. I was also told if you still have pain 3 years later that you will have it for life,then it became five years now 7 years. I hope someday someone will be able to help me with this pain but until then if you can get the injection do so it may truly prevent you from the pain and suffering that I experience daily.

Only had a few little sores on right arm. They didn’t hurt or itch. However, the nerve pain in the middle of my back ( where I had no rash) and down my right arm is excruciating. Two week now. Can’t keep taking all the ibuprofen and Tylenol. Every 3-4 hours. What else can they give for such debilitating pain?

I’m 18 years old, had the chicken pox vaccine as a child but never contracted the chicken pox virus. I’m an incoming freshmen in college, also out of state, and I have shingles in my left arm. I had the rash three to four days before seeing a medical assistant and she is unsure how this is possible but prescribed me antiviral and gabapentin due to the severe pain I have been feeling. Is there any way to know if this virus will affect me months in the future?
Perhaps since you had the chickenpox vaccine, you may have had chickenpox without even knowing it… because the symptoms were minimal (due to the vaccine)? That is the only thing I can think of! The virus stays dormant in your body for life… but can be reactivated during times of stress, illness, or any other factor that decreases your immune function. Also blisters on head ,dandruff, red scalp. All on right side. I am on gabapentin 30mg. And lactocaine for sores on head and face and some stuff for the hair for dandruff.💕

I Have shingles on my right side of the face right now, honestly it looks distugusting, most of them are very very small pimples that look golden and are filled with fluid, but I have 4 more big ones that I have on my face, the first one that aperard has 1,2cm an has red crust on it now, the 2 and 3 are around 1,3cm and on them there are mutiple smaller ones that are filled with fluid, the 4th one is in my hair has around 1cm and is the most recent of them all, so I hope that the medication I got will stop it from devolping these golden fluid pimples and save me some pain.
The web of the left thumb is the pressure point for the nerves in the right shoulder. But triggering that does not relax the area where the nerve is being triggered for pain. Good for other nerve entrapments in the right shoulder.

I never had any symptoms of any kind. shortly after getting the one shot Shingrix vaccine , I noticed right heel always very painful , on fire ,and my right elbow similar getting out of bed . This pain would come and go through out the day for 18 months of this and suddenly stopped, and then jumped up to my shoulder blades all my skin is hot like sunburn no rash appearing like skin beings pulled off the bone. Mental clarity difficult and now ringing in my ears tinnitus, memory is challenging. two or three months now. I am seeking help and have been to several doctors now no answers yet.

I am into the 4th week since I cought shingles, it started in my mouth then spread to my face and I have to say it's been horrible, I am 66 years old and been through many things in my life and this has been one of the worst things I have been through. I first went to the emergency doctors and she did not know what it was, she prescribed antibiotics, late the next day I felt so bad I went to the local hospital, they said its shingles and it's a shame you didn't come sooner because the medication would have been so much more effective. as it stands now in the 4th week the sores have gone but half my face is numb and the skin feels like it's on fire. Shingles is horrible and I hope to god I never get it again.

@@LevelUpRN yes thanks, I am much better, most of the feeling in my face as returned, I am just left with a area near my nose and top lip which still feels numb and itchy, I am putting cream on which seems to be helping. I have been told I have to wait a year before I can have the vaccine so as soon as I can I will get the vaccine. Thank you.

I can Not adequetly describe the incredib,e pain and agony of Shingles. I had some itchy skin on my back for about a week. One day,,I had a very fevered spot on my back. By the evening, I could feel,a big patch of rough skin from about 5-7;spinal bones and by night bedtime..I was near the screaming level of pain. It was about 7 inches wide and went from those bones, the swollen vertebrae at sdownward angle from the spine to the hip at least 8 to 10 inches wide. My husband had had shingles afre we were we were married and it was on the front and was near his waist. He complained of hurt and also got right in to his doctor as both he and the doctor recognized the description. I Don’t know what the rest of his therapy was now but his side was extremely sore for weeks afterward. And as it turned out,,I had a previous appt, set for the very next day for my my doctor and it was a good thing because between the time I got up and got ready to go to the doctor.I was fighting to Not scream. And then saw that All the spinal vertabrea were very swollen..and tender to being touched even by clothing. When I got into doctors exam room I said I had something broken out on me that wasn’t what I’d returned for check up but I thought I had shingles. And doctor said..oh..? Well let’s see it.,where is it located. Told the doctor and by just that next day,,there was a thick field of blisters popping up and bursting as the same time…and the doctor gasped…and said… it’s shingles alright..and called in all the nurses and staff to see it. And they all gasped…yes,they’d seen shingles before but never that big. Almost as soon as the blisters came up they ruptured and formed scabs over the tops. While doctor discussed what the treatment was to be I could hardly contain myself from the effects of the very intense pain. As it also..happens..my doctor is an integrative doctor and she said.,as fast as that’s moving and the level of pain is beyond any 10…there is a therapy that’s almost like a miracle that we can start right now…would you want to try that…? Would I ever. It’s called electrical stimulation.I was prepped and put on the covered examining bed and all the nurses in the place werethere to help. I was helped into a hospital gown and set on my side and propped up with pillows. Two or 3 yard square sheets with electric wires that looked like small heating blankets, were got out while the doctor used very warm water to soak two large towels… they were laid on the bare skin. Back and front. Then the electric pads on top and the pads were plugged into electricity and turned on. I was then amply covered to keep warm over the whole,body and settled for comfort to stay in that position for an hour. Occasionally I could feel a mild electric pulse on my skin but with no discomfort at all. I was giving the emergency call button and any time I had continuing discomfort,,I was to use the call button. I even managed to relax and doze off and on and the entire hour seemed to go very easy and fairly quickly. Then the whole crew reappeared and proceeded to unload me,,get me dried off and helped into my clothes. Asked how I felt..and big psin was gone..and I was amazed..it was ..almost gone ..so the doc scheduled another hour for the next morning…and you bet I took that one too. Then the horrific pain that I had felt like what I’d imagined getting my body sawed on without anesthetics was like,was completely gone. And the swollen 7 vertebrae involved were also shrunk back to normal size.. it Was .,truly Amazing. It did not stop the process of blisters and scabbing but that amazingly was done in three days and all the scabs began to dry up and fall off then as fast as they had broken out. But the shingles proceeded to crawl around to the front side …top of the hip bone..didn’t breakout as much and didn’t seem tfastened to any spine bones. And they proceeded to drop down to the hip bone in front in a more random scattering. And then.,they dropped down to the lower part of the front hip bone on both sides and even dared the pubic bone. They hurt but more itched and sore than the pain I had started with. I told the whole story because some people reading this might have that screaming pain that can’t be borne and no rational usual med therapies may not give any immediate relief. A friend of mine said place she used to work .,everyone on staff passed the shingles around and the big strong men would cry with the agony and groan because of the pain, apparently trying to keep,working when they were considered no longer contagious. They were helpers of a med fscility and were told same as I was, that when the blisters are popping the infection could be passed on to someone else. I had chicken pox as a high school teen l,caught from my brother in college when they had a rash of it in the whole college. Had no idea that later we could develop shingles. Also,want you all to knkw..it takes on average many months to be rid of the residual inner pains from shingles. I had them in June andnits now October and they’re still not done with me..the internal disturbances and pains go one and onky slowly let go. I am 87 years old and never want to go thru any of that ever again. Yet….I did nit get the vax…had too many other .,things ..pop up causing trouble from conditions that just grew worse and couldn’t get vax with that ongoing miseries while trying to heal from the several miserable …..things…trying to also heal. So take heed and decide for yourself about the vax…you don’t want shingles,p because you can’t predict how mild or severe the case might be. But do,,remember the ..alternative therapies are available….for some quick pain relief. Also..just so you know..all my vertebrae swelled up and theyr just now going back ti a normal size. Nurses in hospital..fax another of those uneocsted things.l told me shingles miseries do not go away quickly.,they can last for months or many years. Ooh..ugh..just the thought…of Anyone .breaking out with shingles is a nervous pain..which they truly are..inflamed central nervous system….

Oddly I had shingles when I was 13 or 14 years old. I guess there was no anti-viral treatments back then. I was told I just had to let the virus run its course. It was very very painful and lasted about 3 weeks before I started feeling better. I was left with mild scarring but no pain or nerve damage. I opted to get the shingles vaccine as I do not want his thing to re-emerge

My hives are not restricted to only one side of the body. I think by your description this means that I don't have shingles. I think I never got the second dose of the vaccine after getting the first one a year ago. Do I have to start the two doses over again?
According to the CDC, you should get your second dose as soon as possible, but you do NOT have restart the series. And yes… shingles typically present on one side of the body (over a dermatome).

I don't want to put out false information, so I am putting this out there as an observation. If there are any shingles doctors out there, or people with a similar experience, I would appreciate any comments you have. I suffered a substantial blow to the side of my wrist. Nothing broken, not even a bad bruise. But it caused some weird effects with my nerves running up my arm. Could feel it in my 'funny bone' nerves. Then, almost as soon as it healed, I developed shingles on my arm just above the elbow. There and nowhere else. Hurt like a son of a ^%%*%$^ but I am thankful it was so localized. Cause and effect? Contributing factor? Coincidence? Would appreciate your thoughts. Ouch!!

According to the CDC, there is no specific time you need to wait after having shingles before getting the vaccine. However, it is recommended to wait until your rash has disappeared. I would also talk with your provider to see how long they recommend you wait.

So… I have never had chicken pox… but I have had shingles 3x now and I’m only 25. I am also on a daily dose of valycyclovir to treat these moth ulcers I get. No one’s been able to figure out why I get them or how I got shingles without having chicken pox first 😅

My sister had shingles for a couple of days before she knew what it was. She felt a very small “rash” on her back and finally went to emergency and got on Acyclovir immediately. Lidocaine spray was a blessing for the pain; and daily use of Calamine lotion helped to dry out the blistering.

It's incredibly painful. At first I thought I had slept wrong on my neck and maybe had a pinched nerve. Could barely move my neck or shoulder. That started 3 days before I got the first blister. I thought it was a blister bug that got me because they're very common where I live. It was on the back of my neck so I couldn't see it. 2 days after that the pain was still extreme and the blisters had started spreading. Every video I've seen say you have to catch it early for anti viral medicine to work. So now I'm just waiting it out. It hurts really bad. I can barely move my arm without shooting pain. But I still have to work so I've been just forcing myself to and dealing with the pain. I'm seriously hoping the pain stops soon. I think I'm about 5 days in so I guess I just gotta get through another week or so
It's been about a week since the rash has presented itself and I'm just getting my meds....oof....based off what you said....I hope I caught it early enough. I was having chest pains and here it was shingles! Hopefully you heal quickly!!!

The pain started to dull once that happened but didn't go away completely. I still have moderate pain but it's noticeably better than it was. Hopefully it goes faster for you with the meds

I had shingles with blisters 45 years ago, now im getting frequent occurences, usually no rash or tiny bump. Occuances happened after having covid/and covid vaccines. Have had all the shingles vaccines. Does anti viral meds help with stinging and future occurances?
Antiviral medications can definitely help to decrease the severity and length of a shingles outbreak if initiated within the first couple days after the rash appears.

I began to have feelings of burning and extreme sensitivity going from my shoulder to the elbow and then down into my wrist and hand with shooting pain into my thumb and forefinger. It felt as though someone had hit my hand with a hammer and I kept having to look at my hand because my skin felt crispy burned and tight. I've had a lot of trouble with my shoulders over the last few years, so I went to my Ortho doctor who diagnosed me with a pinched nerve in my neck, gave me prednisone, muscle relaxants and ordered PT for me. While the prednisone seemed to help, I continued to have extreme burning sensations which the doctor said was because of the pinched nerve. Two weeks later, I noticed an extremely painful blister starting to form on my thumb and then another and then a few on another finger and more are now forming. I suspect shingles, but I can't get medical help right now. I'm hoping it will heal and go away on its own.

I was hurt at work ( my left side of my head and shoulder) causing CRPS ( complex regional pain syndrome) I have had this for about a year and as of 3 or 4 day ago shingles appared ( yes i had CP as a child) on the injured left shoulder 😢. Felt a second time around shingles in my armpit again. It was 6 years ago once. 2 weeks of pain. few nights of no sleep.
Felt this second time, swelling and small red bumps. Caught it earyly. Wim hoff method the heck out of it. 5 rounds. Look it up. Swelling went down and away. No swelling in the morning and no symptoms at all. Wim hoff is a series of hyper ventilation in a slow controlled manner. Then breath out hold. 40 breaths, out then hold as long as possible. My mother had it in the worst way! I couldn’t physically feel her pain but watching her squirm and fight to find a comfortable spot so that she could lie down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever witnessed. I was only 14, my dad had to work and I had to take care of her. I was completely powerless, I still have ptsd from it. She was down for almost 2 months. It was crazy how it can cripple a strong woman.
Present day, I just left the ER with my dad and he was diagnosed with shingles. But he skipped out of the ER like nothing was wrong. My jaw dropped, like this isn’t the same version. But I’m glad I know now, that there are different versions. I’m going to get the vaccine in a few months. We don’t know if I’ve been exposed since I’m technically my parents caregiver now. So I guess we have to wait and see.

To help heal herpes - if possible, get yourself Cats Claw herb. Quarter teaspoon for 1 cup of water. Put into boiling water and boil for 1 minute, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. I add a piece of cinnamon stick and a star anise to enhance the flavour. Drink as is hot or cold. No sugar or milk.

I caught my shingles within a couple hours of the 1st rash appearing. I went to the ER suspecting shingles, the Doctor confirmed it, and prescribed Valtrex. A week later it's virtually gone with only getting very small pimple looking blisters for a few days. I'm 37. I think catching it so early helped undercut the virus drastically.

I got shingles after getting a cortisone shot in my shoulder. I had to get another cortisone shot for a major pain in bone on bone knee. And am getting symptoms of shingles again. Taking L- Lysene and praying.

I AM LOSING MY MIND!! I have had shingles for 3 MONTHS and I can't sleep! I had chicken pox twice as a kid, and this is the 2nd time I have shingles (first when i was 18 when i had cancer & now at 56)! The itching is intense & it feels like a hot burning rod in my side. The rash itself is gone but it keeps going on. I've had a fever & chills for 3 months straight. I can't take it anymore. tylenol does nothing!!

I'm 35 and the pain started in my left breast on Christmas after full body joint pain chills and lethargy Christmas Eve that left me crying while staring at Christmas presents I was supposed to be wrapping the pain in my breast/nip and into my armpit got so bad by Thursday I started checking for a lump because the pain was horrific and it was shooting through the one side then I found the rash under the bottom of my lady lump.... And I realized it was blisters and I sent a picture to my best friend who told me to go to the Dr and have it checked. I went to the Dr within hours of finding the rash and had a swab done, it came back positive and I started the antiviral the same day.
The pain is slowly getting better.

I'm 42 and have had shingles so many times in the past 5 yrs that I've lost count. I'm told that I can't get the vaccine because I'm not 50. I read that the reason is because it hasn't been tested on anyone younger. I would totally take my chances and get it if I could. I'm tired of suffering from the fatigue, body aches, and missing work from it!
You are right about the reason for the vaccine only being approved for people over 50. There does seem to be an exception for immunocompromised individuals… not sure if that is the case in your situation? I can only imagine how frustrated and tired you must be after getting shingles so many times!!
I’ve been told to get it still but insurance won’t cover it unless over 50. It will help prevent our lessen severity. I’m 46 and have had shingles since age my 20s several times a year. What helped was taking acyclovir daily as a prophylactic.
Im also 42 and I have shingles. HIt sucks. It's been mostly just pain. But recently I've developed a bunch of red dots. I'm happy it's not worse. Sorry you're suffering. But I know it sucks. Infected nerves are the worst. I also struggle with pinched nerves and 5 herniated disks in my back. There is other stuff. Who cares?

I have shingles now. I didnt know what it was. It just looked like a rash from an allergic reaction. No pain just raised up like hives and itched. Just got on medication 3 days ago after having it for a week. Lidocaine patches for pain but they only work for a couple of hours. Its so painful in my back and my boob. An OTC called Domeboro worked well in preventing most of the rashes from blistering. After they healed/scabbed, I put Neuropathy oil on the area/nerve that was affected.

I am in my early 50's and got the shingles vaccine, in the hopes of avoiding getting shingles since my grandfather had shingles on his head and in his eye. Unfortunately, six days after getting the vaccine I started feeling back and side pain and a rash appeared. I was able to see my doctor the next day and was told that I have shingles. I have had 3 ZSH infections, the last one put me in the hospital with myocarditis, it then proceeded to invade my left kidney spleen then pancreatic pain , and abdominal swelling. All my many doctors dismissed it as other things. Finally convinced my pcp after the last normal ultrasound result to give me the antivirals, 2 days later I am almost completely out of pain.

I had shingles this month, unfortunately here in Australia the medicine is so bad, I went to the hospital and explained the I had fever and a weird pain like sunburn and they didn’t have a clue, I had the antivirals too late I now I have pain in my leg and back, to sleep I need to take a pain killers cocktail😢

I had the Shingrix vaccination 3 weeks ago and a week later started developing extremely itchy spots on my skin reminiscent of mosquito bites. Except there were no mosquitos, or other biting insects we could detect. Apart from that my wife, who lives with me and accompanies me most places (we are both retired) and has always been more susceptible to insect bites than me has suffered none of these symptoms. She did not have the Shingrix vaccination.
I fell and hurt my back and then developed shingles soon after in the same area down my sciatic nerve, it’s made me very ilI it’s been about 2 months of slow recovery still not back to normal yet,I believe trauma triggered the shingles as my stress levels were not that high at that point, or maybe I don’t realise I was stressed God knows best.

I have been having continually reoccurring outbreaks for the past 2/ half years,, the debilitating fatigue and flu like symptoms are the worst,, I don't really have much of a rash,, however im taking two antivirals continually,, if anyone has any helpful suggestions please feel free to message me and it would be greatly appreciated,, may God bless all whom are suffering with this horrible affliction

Apply CASTOR OIL to rash to reduce the pain. Also pepper mint oil is antiviral but patch test first as this oil can feel intense. My rash is receding as I'm on antiviral meds which stopped it from spreading. No scabbing.

I did receive the Shingles vaccination, both doses a little over a year ago. Imagine my surprise when I was told by ER doctor that I had Shingles . I said but I was vaccinated!! I am unfortunately one of the small percent to still get it. It's been a long painful road. I do not wish it upon anyone.
I have this now maam. Good thing i had check up 24 hrs after the rash occured yesterday. I took acyclovir, i use calamine in rash, take vitamins, beroca and vitc iwth zinc and paracetamol. My doctor prescribed my pregabalin and keltican as well for nerve repair

I suspect I may have shingles. I’ve researched it on the internet and your explanation is by far the best. It’s very simple for me to understand, especially the symptoms which I’ve been experiencing. I thought i had a pinched sciatica nerve as that entire area was sensitive to touch. Felt like 3rd degree sunburn
Couldnt even let my clothes touch my skin. Awake all night in agony.... now day 5 and the blisters are appearing on my groin and buttocks/lower back. Its a large area and excrutiating. My Doc gave me prednisone and the anti-viral meds. I also use lidocaine after the scabs started. It really helps. I had/have them on my face. When mine started it felt like fiberglass on my skin. My sinuses bothered me for days and I had a headache. It was not too bad. Now that I am healing that pain has gone thankfully. I was worried about spreading it so I went to the Doc. I was told once it scabs over I would not be contagious.
I got shingles 7 years ago and cannot go out of the house due to the post hepatic neuralgia that I have on the left quadrant of the top of my body. I have extreme pain so I cannot wear clothes on the top of my body. If I have to go out to the doctor I wrap a sheet around myself and take the unbelievable pain that comes with that. I have done everything to get rid of the pain. I even have a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my spine that helped a small bit but does nothing now. Have you heard that a hyperbaric chamber may help get rid of the pain? I called the hospital and they said it is not covered under insurance. Of course not !!! If you have any information or contacts with someone that is a real expert I would love to hear from you. Seven years of little contact with the outside world is horrific.. I just want to get out of this pain and live again. Thank you for your consideration.
I am so incredibly sorry for your pain and suffering. I had never heard of hyperbaric oxygen therapy being using for shingles, but I searched and found this study using HBO with patients with shingles: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23342765/. This study was interesting as well: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33976752/. So there is evidence to show it can help... but it is not at all surprising that insurance won't cover the therapy. Hugs to you.

My 37 year old son has shingles on his face. He has had covid twice and studies are now showing that covid awakens dormant viruses in the body. He is otherwise healthy, so this is concerning. I hope he never gets this again, awful!

I went to the chemist and they knew straight away what it was as wasn't happy that the Dr's didn't help. They gave me anti viral and i just hope it's caught this in time before it gets any worse 😢

It is actually possible for no rash to appear while still having the same pain happened to me a year ago noone could diagnose it but since i had shingles prior to this i knew what it felt like got shingles meds and it cleared up.

Both times I've had shingles they have been brought on by burns. I found that only hydrogen peroxide helped me, so I put some capsules in my body wash and in the hand soap. Works for me.

I had an episode of shingles seven and a half years ago now and I still suffer from peripheral neuropathy from it. The rash started under my breast and spread all the way around to my spinal column. I suffer everyday [much worse at night] with pain. I have seen a few doctors and pain therapist but nothing has helped. I cannot to this day stand my clothing to touch this area which is also around six inches wide all around. I have to be very careful how I lay on my side at night as get it wrong and the pain is tenfold. I don’t sleep much needless to say and I am always in pain. When I had the rash it felt like I had been electrocuted when it is really bad. It would come in waves of pain subside then out of the blue strike again. All I could do when the pain hit was to grit my teeth and wait for the pain to pass.Normally it is not that bad but is always there and I am always aware. I do use pain patches which help a bit. I did get the injection on day 2 of the pain before the rash appeared but it did nothing. My doctor told me that if you had a full body of chichen pox as a child then shingles is worse and I am the lucky one. I was also told if you still have pain 3 years later that you will have it for life,then it became five years now 7 years. I hope someday someone will be able to help me with this pain but until then if you can get the injection do so it may truly prevent you from the pain and suffering that I experience daily.

Only had a few little sores on right arm. They didn’t hurt or itch. However, the nerve pain in the middle of my back ( where I had no rash) and down my right arm is excruciating. Two week now. Can’t keep taking all the ibuprofen and Tylenol. Every 3-4 hours. What else can they give for such debilitating pain?

I am immunocompromised and have shingles but with no rash, I didn’t even know that was possible until my autoimmune disease consultant said it can happen in people on immunosuppressants . I have the exact burning and stabby pains and I’ve had them for 6 days so far but no rash. Got the antivirals

I’m 18 years old, had the chicken pox vaccine as a child but never contracted the chicken pox virus. I’m an incoming freshmen in college, also out of state, and I have shingles in my left arm. I had the rash three to four days before seeing a medical assistant and she is unsure how this is possible but prescribed me antiviral and gabapentin due to the severe pain I have been feeling. Is there any way to know if this virus will affect me months in the future?
Perhaps since you had the chickenpox vaccine, you may have had chickenpox without even knowing it… because the symptoms were minimal (due to the vaccine)? That is the only thing I can think of!
The virus stays dormant in your body for life… but can be reactivated during times of stress, illness, or any other factor that decreases your immune function.

Can one have shingles and not know it? I had a mild case of shingles and didn't know it was shingles until I showed my dr. a picture of rashes I had previously about 6 weeks later.
It is possible! Some people have very mild symptoms.

I Have shingles on my right side of the face right now, honestly it looks distugusting, most of them are very very small pimples that look golden and are filled with fluid, but I have 4 more big ones that I have on my face, the first one that aperard has 1,2cm an has red crust on it now, the 2 and 3 are around 1,3cm and on them there are mutiple smaller ones that are filled with fluid, the 4th one is in my hair has around 1cm and is the most recent of them all, so I hope that the medication I got will stop it from devolping these golden fluid pimples and save me some pain.
I took a lot of Vitamin D, it cleared up in a day.

The web of the left thumb is the pressure point for the nerves in the right shoulder. But triggering that does not relax the area where the nerve is being triggered for pain. Good for other nerve entrapments in the right shoulder.
Shingrix Vaccine , and shiggles Virous. 11/2021 I agreed to receive the vaccine at the suggestion of my Physician . I never had any symptoms of any kind. shortly after getting the one shot Shingrix vaccine , I noticed right heel always very painful , on fire ,and my right elbow similar getting out of bed . This pain would come and go through out the day for 18 months of this and suddenly stopped, and then jumped up to my shoulder blades all my skin is hot like sunburn no rash appearing like skin beings pulled off the bone. Mental clarity difficult and now ringing in my ears tinnitus, memory is challenging. two or three months now. I am seeking help and have been to several doctors now no answers yet.

I am into the 4th week since I cought shingles, it started in my mouth then spread to my face and I have to say it's been horrible, I am 66 years old and been through many things in my life and this has been one of the worst things I have been through. I first went to the emergency doctors and she did not know what it was, she prescribed antibiotics, late the next day I felt so bad I went to the local hospital, they said its shingles and it's a shame you didn't come sooner because the medication would have been so much more effective. as it stands now in the 4th week the sores have gone but half my face is numb and the skin feels like it's on fire. Shingles is horrible and I hope to god I never get it again.

I can Not adequetly describe the incredib,e pain and agony of Shingles. I had some itchy skin on my back for about a week. One day,,I had a very fevered spot on my back. By the evening, I could feel,a big patch of rough skin from about 5-7;spinal bones and by night bedtime..I was near the screaming level of pain. It was about 7 inches wide and went from those bones, the swollen vertebrae at sdownward angle from the spine to the hip at least 8 to 10 inches wide. My husband had had shingles afre we were we were married and it was on the front and was near his waist. He complained of hurt and also got right in to his doctor as both he and the doctor recognized the description. I Don’t know what the rest of his therapy was now but his side was extremely sore for weeks afterward. And as it turned out,,I had a previous appt, set for the very next day for my my doctor and it was a good thing because between the time I got up and got ready to go to the doctor.I was fighting to Not scream. And then saw that All the spinal vertabrea were very swollen..and tender to being touched even by clothing. When I got into doctors exam room I said I had something broken out on me that wasn’t what I’d returned for check up but I thought I had shingles. And doctor said..oh..? Well let’s see it.,where is it located. Told the doctor and by just that next day,,there was a thick field of blisters popping up and bursting as the same time…and the doctor gasped…and said… it’s shingles alright..and called in all the nurses and staff to see it. And they all gasped…yes,they’d seen shingles before but never that big. Almost as soon as the blisters came up they ruptured and formed scabs over the tops. While doctor discussed what the treatment was to be I could hardly contain myself from the effects of the very intense pain. As it also..happens..my doctor is an integrative doctor and she said.,as fast as that’s moving and the level of pain is beyond any 10…there is a therapy that’s almost like a miracle that we can start right now…would you want to try that…? Would I ever. It’s called electrical stimulation.I was prepped and put on the covered examining bed and all the nurses in the place werethere to help. I was helped into a hospital gown and set on my side and propped up with pillows. Two or 3 yard square sheets with electric wires that looked like small heating blankets, were got out while the doctor used very warm water to soak two large towels… they were laid on the bare skin. Back and front. Then the electric pads on top and the pads were plugged into electricity and turned on. I was then amply covered to keep warm over the whole,body and settled for comfort to stay in that position for an hour. Occasionally I could feel a mild electric pulse on my skin but with no discomfort at all. I was giving the emergency call button and any time I had continuing discomfort,,I was to use the call button. I even managed to relax and doze off and on and the entire hour seemed to go very easy and fairly quickly. Then the whole crew reappeared and proceeded to unload me,,get me dried off and helped into my clothes. Asked how I felt..and big psin was gone..and I was amazed..it was ..almost gone ..so the doc scheduled another hour for the next morning…and you bet I took that one too. Then the horrific pain that I had felt like what I’d imagined getting my body sawed on without anesthetics was like,was completely gone. And the swollen 7 vertebrae involved were also shrunk back to normal size.. it Was .,truly Amazing. It did not stop the process of blisters and scabbing but that amazingly was done in three days and all the scabs began to dry up and fall off then as fast as they had broken out. But the shingles proceeded to crawl around to the front side …top of the hip bone..didn’t breakout as much and didn’t seem tfastened to any spine bones. And they proceeded to drop down to the hip bone in front in a more random scattering. And then.,they dropped down to the lower part of the front hip bone on both sides and even dared the pubic bone. They hurt but more itched and sore than the pain I had started with.
I told the whole story because some people reading this might have that screaming pain that can’t be borne and no rational usual med therapies may not give any immediate relief. A friend of mine said place she used to work .,everyone on staff passed the shingles around and the big strong men would cry with the agony and groan because of the pain, apparently trying to keep,working when they were considered no longer contagious. They were helpers of a med fscility and were told same as I was, that when the blisters are popping the infection could be passed on to someone else.
I had chicken pox as a high school teen l,caught from my brother in college when they had a rash of it in the whole college. Had no idea that later we could develop shingles. Also,want you all to knkw..it takes on average many months to be rid of the residual inner pains from shingles. I had them in June andnits now October and they’re still not done with me..the internal disturbances and pains go one and onky slowly let go. I am 87 years old and never want to go thru any of that ever again. Yet….I did nit get the vax…had too many other .,things ..pop up causing trouble from conditions that just grew worse and couldn’t get vax with that ongoing miseries while trying to heal from the several miserable …..things…trying to also heal. So take heed and decide for yourself about the vax…you don’t want shingles,p because you can’t predict how mild or severe the case might be. But do,,remember the ..alternative therapies are available….for some quick pain relief. Also..just so you know..all my vertebrae swelled up and theyr just now going back ti a normal size. Nurses in hospital..fax another of those uneocsted things.l told me shingles miseries do not go away quickly.,they can last for months or many years. Ooh..ugh..just the thought…of Anyone .breaking out with shingles is a nervous pain..which they truly are..inflamed central nervous system….
I too experienced the pain so bad that I would hold my husbands had and quietly scream until the pain lessened. Horrible horrible feeling.

Oddly I had shingles when I was 13 or 14 years old. I guess there was no anti-viral treatments back then. I was told I just had to let the virus run its course. It was very very painful and lasted about 3 weeks before I started feeling better. I was left with mild scarring but no pain or nerve damage. I opted to get the shingles vaccine as I do not want his thing to re-emerge

My hives are not restricted to only one side of the body. I think by your description this means that I don't have shingles. I think I never got the second dose of the vaccine after getting the first one a year ago. Do I have to start the two doses over again?
According to the CDC, you should get your second dose as soon as possible, but you do NOT have restart the series. And yes… shingles typically present on one side of the body (over a dermatome).

I don't want to put out false information, so I am putting this out there as an observation. If there are any shingles doctors out there, or people with a similar experience, I would appreciate any comments you have. I suffered a substantial blow to the side of my wrist. Nothing broken, not even a bad bruise. But it caused some weird effects with my nerves running up my arm. Could feel it in my 'funny bone' nerves. Then, almost as soon as it healed, I developed shingles on my arm just above the elbow. There and nowhere else. Hurt like a son of a ^%%*%$^ but I am thankful it was so localized. Cause and effect? Contributing factor? Coincidence? Would appreciate your thoughts. Ouch!!

When you get shingles, how soon after can you get the vaccine?
According to the CDC, there is no specific time you need to wait after having shingles before getting the vaccine. However, it is recommended to wait until your rash has disappeared. I would also talk with your provider to see how long they recommend you wait.

So… I have never had chicken pox… but I have had shingles 3x now and I’m only 25. I am also on a daily dose of valycyclovir to treat these moth ulcers I get. No one’s been able to figure out why I get them or how I got shingles without having chicken pox first 😅

My sister had shingles for a couple of days before she knew what it was. She felt a very small “rash” on her back and finally went to emergency and got on Acyclovir immediately. Lidocaine spray was a blessing for the pain; and daily use of Calamine lotion helped to dry out the blistering.

It's incredibly painful. At first I thought I had slept wrong on my neck and maybe had a pinched nerve. Could barely move my neck or shoulder. That started 3 days before I got the first blister. I thought it was a blister bug that got me because they're very common where I live. It was on the back of my neck so I couldn't see it. 2 days after that the pain was still extreme and the blisters had started spreading. Every video I've seen say you have to catch it early for anti viral medicine to work. So now I'm just waiting it out. It hurts really bad. I can barely move my arm without shooting pain. But I still have to work so I've been just forcing myself to and dealing with the pain. I'm seriously hoping the pain stops soon. I think I'm about 5 days in so I guess I just gotta get through another week or so
It's been about a week since the rash has presented itself and I'm just getting my meds....oof....based off what you said....I hope I caught it early enough.

@@countrygirl197906 yeah the rash started healing about a week after it appeared. It only took a few days for the rash to heal. The pain started to dull once that happened but didn't go away completely. I still have moderate pain but it's noticeably better than it was. Hopefully it goes faster for you with the meds

I had shingles with blisters 45 years ago, now im getting frequent occurences, usually no rash or tiny bump. Occuances happened after having covid/and covid vaccines. Have had all the shingles vaccines. Does anti viral meds help with stinging and future occurances?
Antiviral medications can definitely help to decrease the severity and length of a shingles outbreak if initiated within the first couple days after the rash appears.

I began to have feelings of burning and extreme sensitivity going from my shoulder to the elbow and then down into my wrist and hand with shooting pain into my thumb and forefinger. It felt as though someone had hit my hand with a hammer and I kept having to look at my hand because my skin felt crispy burned and tight. I've had a lot of trouble with my shoulders over the last few years, so I went to my Ortho doctor who diagnosed me with a pinched nerve in my neck, gave me prednisone, muscle relaxants and ordered PT for me. While the prednisone seemed to help, I continued to have extreme burning sensations which the doctor said was because of the pinched nerve. Two weeks later, I noticed an extremely painful blister starting to form on my thumb and then another and then a few on another finger and more are now forming. I suspect shingles, but I can't get medical help right now. I'm hoping it will heal and go away on its own.
The kind of feeling you went through is what I am going through now. It would be nice to know what happened next or thereafter.
Try having it in the groan area & behind my butt so painful ... never ever wish this on anyone....

Yes exactly the same for me. At first, I thought it was a sunburn two days later the rash appeared and now it's covered with nice blisters that hurt as f. At least its not in my face that something good I guess
