Still on of my favourites from Skiffle..watched Andy Narrell drill this one night after night....brilliant. Hard work pays off....even though the judges may not think so we know better.
Nay sayers. Probably one of the best pieces made and played for steelband... by a man who has pushed the artform further than most Trinidadians. Best wishes Andy.
At the time this was a refreshing sound and still is for a panorama tune up to this day, just wish that Andy Narell had stayed in the compitition and forget the judges. Sweet music will always win.
like they say some people are ahead of their time. this music is S W E E T ! to live forever ! songs come and go, tunes stay forever , this is a tune !
Despite their low placing in that Panorama, the arrangement has remained in repertoire of Skiffle Bunch , while the music is of a lot of the bands that placed ahead of them are rarely heard.
I spent many many hours in Skiffle panyard listening to the evolution of this arrangement and when they say this eh good I say they mad. This is wonderful, superb, goosebump raising music. This recording does zero justice to Andy and Skiffle.I want a clear recording to enjoy those chilling moments in the panyard when I raised my hand and bent my head and was lost for a while in the beauty of this music.
it is certainly one of the more'''original panorama pieces= i fell in love with it from the first time i heard it beautiful music it may be strange but all the movements are trinidadian calypso music not conventional but trini all the same.
@psychologistpannist for your info this was arranged by Andy Narrell..it was great to watch him work.....I would go there after my rehearsals with Fonclaire
@casym4ever I think you misread my comment...I know this was arranged by Narell, who is an entertaining player just like Holman. Its their common approach to arranging panorama music that I have a problem with. Their panorama arrangements are more Sunday afternoon in the hollows than carnival saturday night on the racetrack. Hope you understand what I mean
I'm a big fan of andy narrel but one of reason why the band came 12th is because there was no structure in the tune. After the first verse there was no verse solo he went straight into the jam and then another jam after that and judges look for that after all its a competition. but I really dont know why he stop arranging for the band because I LOVE THIS SONG AND WHO CARES WHAT THE JUDGES DECIDE AT THE END OF THE DAY. 1999 Panorama was one of the best panoramas.
I agree, I like this tune a lot but as a panorama tune as defined by the genre's standard devices such as development, variation, use of themes, etc. it pretty much falls flat, doesn't go anywhere. It's like Andy was trying too hard to re-invent the wheel. And to me, it's pretty but not that exciting. Panorama is a carnival event and it needs that energy. And contrary to what some may say, excitement and musicality are not mutually exclusive. Just ask Jit, Boogsie, Professor, etc.
Beautiful music, but same problem I have with Holman.....a really nice listen, but panorama music is carnival music. Anytime i feel to listen and not get up and dance, the essence of panorama as a carnival art is lost. This just does not move me to dance
Any "tune" you can remember years after is a classic in my book...this is memorable music.
One of the best pieces of music I've heard. Reminds me of Robbie and Ray. This tune is sweeeeeeeeet. Wow
Excellent
Still on of my favourites from Skiffle..watched Andy Narrell drill this one night after night....brilliant. Hard work pays off....even though the judges may not think so we know better.
This belongs in the pan cannon. It's pure Trini. Up there with Bertie, Robbie, Boogsie, Leon, Ray, Jit..... Hats off to Andy.
LLOYD WAITHE close your eyes & enjoy music
Exactly
And Bradley
Nay sayers. Probably one of the best pieces made and played for steelband... by a man who has pushed the artform further than most Trinidadians. Best wishes Andy.
Agree...100%
Agree 101%
You are so right. Kudo's to Andy
This song reminds me of my dad who helped shape my love & passion for pan...plus it's a tear jerker cause i miss him so much
At the time this was a refreshing sound and still is for a panorama tune up to this day, just wish that Andy Narell had stayed in the compitition and forget the judges. Sweet music will always win.
Always in my head...among the top 5 pieces of Panorama music I have ever heard...
one of my best pan memories, use to go and hear them practice every night for this song!
History was made this day, well done Skiffle Bunch and Andy Narell...on a great performance and a great arrangement!
like they say some people are ahead of their time. this music is S W E E T ! to live forever ! songs come and go, tunes stay forever , this is a tune !
That was ANDY"S year they should have won , I was in the band on the drag ,beautiful arrangement, Junior should give him another shot in 2012.
Despite their low placing in that Panorama, the arrangement has remained in repertoire of Skiffle Bunch , while the music is of a lot of the bands that placed ahead of them are rarely heard.
This tune is a work of art! the best part is from 5mins 45sec... pure genius! Andy Narrell's work is fantastic!

I don't know why, but I've been addicted to this song for a while now. While it's not my favorite panorama, it certainly is interesting.
for your info this was arranged by Andy Narrell..it was great to watch him work.....I would go there after my rehearsals with Fonclaire
My top 3 placings for that panorama are 1st - despers, 2nd - Renagades, 3rd Skiffle Bunch
it is certainly one of the more'''original panorama pieces= i fell in love with it from the first time i heard it beautiful music it may be strange but all the movements are trinidadian calypso music not conventional but trini all the same.
Non-Trini or not this one of the best 'pan tunes ' ever made.
5:45-6:45 .. what pan in heaven sounds like.
Should have been in the top that year,,
The chords used in this piece of music are incredible...
@psychologistpannist for your info this was arranged by Andy Narrell..it was great to watch him work.....I would go there after my rehearsals with Fonclaire

8th of the 12 finalists that year but this time rocked the Savannah that night and should have placed in the Top 3.

The band did not place 12th where you got that information?
the band placed 8th that year but should have been in the top 4.
