I booked myself on your next Intensive RO-DBT training in Derby next year. Having already trained in standard DBT I really looking forward to learning more about your fascinating adaptation of this treatment model. It makes a lot of sense.
Great! The challenge then is how can an over-controlled kid, adolescent or adult be motivated to make real efforts to try small, behavioral changes in order to bring some positive thought? And what if their self-esteem is so low that they are terrified of even the smallest "risk" of ANY behavioral action? How about when Motivational Interviewing fails to motivate them?
Here's a link to a PodCast that was recorded October 2015: cbtradio.libsyn.com/radically-open-dialectial-behavior-therapy-ro-dbt The manual is likely to come out in 2016; we're still working on it but we're getting there!
"willing to take in critical feedback" There's the problem. Being closed is an emotional self preservation thing. People take the piss too much so I stop giving them ammo. Seems to work, but I get miserable and stagnate and am STILL living with parents at 36
The novel understanding is that we are too anxious to relax, therefore, too anxious to socialize. So we must first relax. Just like before an anxious cat plays with you, you need to pet it and help it to relax.

The issue is assuming they don't believe they're being "relaxed". They think they're relaxing.
