  • This video shows three skills that were demonstrated by Larry Bird during his career with the Boston Celtics. The skills are very easy to understand, however, very few people actually do them. You will get a chance to see each of the three skills, listen to a description and an analysis, and then see video examples where Larry demonstrated the skills.
Hopefully you will be able to demonstrate the skills in your areas.
The content is focused on people who work in science and research, but is accessible to anyone, whether they have a science background or not.

The ultimate respect and acknowledgment comes from Bird's peers. Those players who are hall of famers themselves. Bird played hard and gave tremendous respect to opponents that played with the same work ethic and confidence as he did. He played while he had horrific injuries, was in unbelievable pain, and never backed away from the pressure of taking 'the big shot'. He had court vision that historically, few others posessed. His BBIQ was incredible and came from his preparation.
    Great video

Nice vid! I believe you covered why Bird stood out among the greats of the game. The tools he had and used. I don't think anyone else in the game had those tools.

Bird is thee GOAT plain and simple !
Bird in his rookie year completely turned around the fortunes of his team with the same cast of players to be competitive top level. The only other player that comes close is Michael Jordan but he could not make that claim. In fact, the Bulls struggled for 4 years with Jordan until a better supporting cast was acquired.

This play is always what I think of when people say he wasn’t athletic. So wrong. This play is nothing less than outstanding.

Nicely designed video. And yes, these are absolutely traits that are worth paying attention to, learning, and mastering. a matter of zooming out spatially and temporally and seeing a little bigger picture than others do.

The last second steal by Bird required a bonehead move by Thomas but it doesn't take away from Bird "seeing" the situation and taking advantage of the opportunity.

Love the analysis of the Great Larry Bird! We don't have players with heart anymore! They're all too interested in cashing their paychecks instead.

Nice to see somebody break down how he does it but you started the inbound steal break down late - he saw it sitting on the floor, that's why he left Lambert open to control the pass. It's called playing the ball.

Good analysis of a great player that unfortunately the only thing that stopped bird was his back and let's stop this very wrong bird is not athletic, that is absolutely not the truth.

He’s not athletic eh? Just remember, style isn’t a necessary component of athletic ability.

Always was so much talk about Bird not being very athletic. Well, following his own miss he jumps up gets the rebound while in the air with his right hand switches to his left hand(while in the air)and shoots the ball with his left hand and makes the shot. Does it say more about the person/player when he’s not a superstar athlete but can still play and beat the best? Is it something even more difficult to accomplish when you’re not a Michael Jordan?
