My wife has been on a quest for 10 years to even find this show! Right after she found it I found a brand new in box Toby on ebay. Bought it and she LOVES it.
Yeah I had it on VHS. It came with the Toby toy. Man I still remember this movie. Some of the acting feels duh now as a 36 year adult. But It still is cool. I found it because I wanted to see if I could find videos on how Toby worked. Like does he have a camera in him? how are his reactions to the movies recorded on him? Also how many movies was he set for? Would 1 have to buy him again if there were more then the pre perscribed movies? Cause I do still remember Toby though I don't have him any more. I don't recall any way that now as an adult I could say oh so that's how you would've hooked him up to your PC or Mac to upgrade him.
I loved this as a kid! I even tasted the peanut butter and apple slices I used to eat while watching this all over again. This is seriously one of the most underrated kids' shows ever made. Thank you so much for sharing!
I had a few Toby Terrier VHSes and this was one. I loved Toby Terrier as a kid, thought the tv show jokes went over my head and I knew it. It's lovely to come back to it, ever since they stopped putting VHS ports on DVD players I haven't been able to see Toby and his video pals, which makes me sad
Oh my gosh my nephew loved this & every time I watch the I love Lucy chocolate factory episode I think of this& him being little. Lots of great memories.
Yeah in 2018 a friend of mine named Bri told me abou that I love Lucy eppisode. As she was telling me about the chocolate factory episode I was like ah so that's what they ripped off for I love Lasy on the Toby movie. Though I was 8 I remember having the hots for the actrice that plays Lassy.
Oh my goodness!! Thank you for uploading this! You just gave me back some of my best childhood memories 🐶 ❤️ & yes! I also had the interactive Toby dog! So much fun these characters were so hilarious! Some of the best puppet producers
Toby the terrier is the best children's toy from the 90s and possibly ever!!! the beautiful and friendly and sweet adorable robotic plush toy responded to flashes in the cathode ray tube TV. Using similar technology as the duck hunting 🔫 gun that came with the Nintendo NES. It has a lens in it's collar that you had to point at the TV and make sure it was sitting in a particular position. I had a special Nefertiti throne built for him by my dad so that it was easy to position him and have him stay there (gently nudging him could keep him from reading the signal)! I seriously love him so much when he would need new batteries I would run around and scream and cry saying why did you kill him?! Until my dad replaced the batteries. He still works i still have 6 tapes and the cartridges that you would plug into his rump roast. It only works with a cathode ray tube TV. Luckily I have a perfectly preserved one and my toby works with it just fine. I only take it out once a year to play with him but he will forever be an Important role in my childhood development. Also afghana's cover of Madonna's Vogue as "Dogue" has always been my favorite skit. I haven't been able to find a clip online of it anywhere and I don't know how to get my VHS hooked up to my computer but it's pure genius! Does anyone know who produced or directed these? Are they still around ? I owe them a debt of gratitude! And why was it not more popular ?
Man this made me remember the old soc em bomper toy commercials, and the original PS1. You could rent consoles back in the early 90s, and Blockbuster was hugggge back in the day. MTV still played music, reality tv didnt exist yet. Schoolbooks had old student names written in the cover dating back to the 70s!
Wowwww I been looking for this for YEARS, was starting to think it was a fever dream! My search bar would be "90s stuffed dog vhs that parodies game show" lmaoo and all I had in my memory to go on was the segment where the dogs said "I'll take thing that doggies do Patttt" and "uhh chew up a slipper" bc my mom would imitate those lines whenever I watched it LOL can't believe I finally found it
Im currently 17 and so glad my mom introsuced me to vhs when i was a kid, i was able to watch a lot of things that not extremly popular such as toby terrier!
Oh my God I spent so much time trying to find out what the name of this dog was, cuz I remember him as a child. I finally found it and all my nostalgic dreams came true!!

I don't remember this toy line, but I'm guessing when the Toby character asks the questions directed at the camera is when the signal is sent to the stuffed animal. The time between the question and the continuation of the scene is quite short. That being said, to those who owned the toy, did you have to pause the video to hear the stuffed animal's response or did it just talk as the video kept playing?
I know this is a belated reply, but I had this growing up. I'm very sure the toy was sold with the tapes, and my toy did talk as the video kept playing. There's a short pause from Toby whenever he interacts with the viewer, and it's during that time that the toy would wag his tail and respond in kind (small verbal responses sometimes, or just straight reactive noises). He sometimes said things specific to the episodes, if I recall correctly. Even on its decaying batteries years later (don't worry, they were safely replaced before they did any damage lol), he would still try to respond to things. I feel it was pretty ahead of its time and functioned similarly to how Furbys were later on. I hope this answers your question.

This is a nice show, but the preschool show I watched was Barney & Friends in the 1990's.
Damn I watched the shit out of this one. I literally haven't seen it in 25 year and it's exactly like I remember it. To much nostalgia, I feel weird
Same. I had Toby in the early 90s as a kid. Only had 1 tape though lol.
