Update: I am currently working with a contractor through IBEW and the job is going great so far, I enjoy the work a whole lot more than any job I've had before.

Little late but Congratulations man im watching your info vids literally day before my test and i feel alot more comfortable and confident that i should be fine . Im trying for my local 153 where my Gpa has been since he was out of highschool. I wish i got into the trade out of highschool instead of bullshitting a year in college but in the end taking algebra in college is what got me in being i had a D+ in algebra my freshman year in HS because i didnt try very hard . Im 30 now and have alot of work experience with construction, electrical and plumbing working with concrete and foundation repairs with my uncles company to building custom medical buses and party buses at a custom shop and ive always enjoyed doing wiring and bringing power to things more than anything else . Im stoked for you!! this makes me feel a little more comfortable about my upcoming interview in a week! just be yourself be honest right>? I hate making up answers for some of those questions like " describe a time someone was hurt at work what did you do? " I haven't really had any experience with that so I don't know what to say and I don't really want to just make something up.
Hey folks, good news, I got accepted into IBEW Local 124 on May 3rd 2023, I passed the drug test and physical so now I'm just waiting to hear back for what's next.
Do you need experience before taking the oral interview? I don't want to be denied since I've never worked on an electrical project.

@@shakprootwhat kind of physical is required and did they do a background check?
@@TRue-r2n I had chest x-rays and it's a light physical, nothing crazy that I can remember, a doctor just checks you over and calls it good from what I remember, there is a background check I'm pretty sure too
@@shakproot whats the light physical exam? so wait they do a full body check up?😂wtf , did you have have to do blood work
I also want to add this Question that was said to me during the Interview: Tell me about a time you didn't have what you needed to accomplish the task at hand and how did you overcome it?

I haven't heard anything back still so I know I didn't make it yet, i called them to see how I ranked and they said they couldn't give me that information.

You take the aptitude test before you're interviewed
I wouldn’t say that the math is difficult but it’s difficult enough to review. However, everyone is different and we all experience the process differently.
I mean, there are people who dropped out of HS who are electricians.
For the application appointment did you have to wear anything special or just casual polo and pants ?

From the time you interviewed to when you got accepted how long did that take? It’s been a couple months since my interview and no word yet
I interviewed in april 2023 and got accepted in may 2023 then started working in September 2023
But that was my 2nd time interviewing when I got accepted, I didn't hear anything back after my first interview in april 2022 so I took college classes and reinterviewed in april 2023
Thanks for the response! I interviewed in April and I still haven’t heard anything back. Did a follow up call last week and they said they are running behind schedule but they will email you whether you got accepted or not. So technically I guess I’m still in the running?

@@nannerspank I'm currently at work rn, it's going great, better than any other job I've had, along with more stress than I've ever had. Most days are good days though
Did you get in the program?
I did not get into the first wave of IBEW apprenticeships and I believe it is because I don't have experience in the field. My name is on the list for acceptable hires at IBEW for 2 years since my interview so hoplefully they reach out while im working another job. I'm applying at Barts Electric now for their apprenticeship course, just like IBEW's but through Bart's, so I can get some experience for IBEW or just go through Bart's for my Journeyman.

Is it worth applying if you mostly got Cs Ds and Fs in math in highschool?
My overall gpa was a 2.8 in high school and I still met the requirements for the trade. I think you should be good.

I do not know yet, I should be getting a letter in the mail within a week based on what they told me. I'll keep you informed in this comment section!

when they asked the first question, Why did you want to do this or why did you want to become an apprentice? what did you say?
also do you think trade school is necessary to fill out for your resume?
In the video I give my answer for the first question, towards the end I believe, and to get into IBEW I think they are looking for people with experience first, which makes sense, so if you can get any electrical or construction experience it would move you up the ranks I believe.

@@victorsaldivar4753 We are in the construction trades so any construction experience would help out when starting out as an apprentice

Also how long did it take for the process of waiting after sending a application for apprentice ship ,to the aptitude test, to the next interview, to actually being on the field ? Also did you by chance get your CDL class A before applying? Nonetheless thanks for this vid bro .
@@aceofspades2272 no CDL, expect month or 2 between the aptitude test and the interview, then after the interview expect anywhere from 1 to 3 or even more months to actually start working

What was your score on the test?
I asked for my score, but they never gave it, I believe I scored in the high 90's on both tests, I'd say like at least a 90 on math and at least a 95 on reading

What was your aptitude score?
They wouldn't give me that information when I called them, the test was very easy for me so I believe they want people with experience or college education, but mainly experience.
