- SCP 2696 is a Keter Class anomaly also known as The Haunted Victorian Mansion.
SCP-2696 is a mansion located in the region of Dark Peak in Derbyshire, England. The interior of SCP2696 typically induces mild claustrophobia and panic in individuals within one hour of entry. Prolonged exposure leads to an intensification of such feelings, resulting in severe, crippling paranoia within 3-6 hours. Additionally, the nursery and the tower of SCP-2696 are subject to an anomalous effect which prevents all matter from entering or exiting the boundaries of either area; this effect does not extend to electromagnetic or aspect radiation.
SCP-2696 contains one or more incorporeal entities that are capable of inducing mind-altering effects at close range. As such, they are to be avoided where possible and kept contained inside SCP-2696.

Which is a shame because the story of the Winchester house is a lot more interesting. Trying to build a house to confuse spirits and survive a curse vs. building a confusing house to manifest the memories of your wife and kids.
I think the latter would be better as a short story where it expanded on the actual family members and dynamic. If the concept of the story isn't as scary as the concept of the Winchester house then at least make me feel any emotion like sadness, anger, disgust, relief, etc.
This story is fine, but it doesn't feel like an SCP story.
I wonder if SCP Explained will ever do the canon tales, like Apotheosis. They did the Ouroboros Cycle, so it's not too far out of the realm of possibility.

I like how after an uneventful year, they suddenly had like a 7 and and an 8 year old running around the house. In a year... amazing.
Maybe Henry was crazy enough before and Catheryne tricked him into thinking they were his Children. She continued to pressure and abuse him, made him believe in his vulnerability that everything is fine. Still he loved her for he knew he couldnt have any other but her. Until one night he could not bear this psychological torture anymore and in a fit of desperate rage he killed her, not being able to control himself. And when the boys lost their Mother, the only person that could ever care for them was gone …. Day by day, they slipped deeper and deeper into their grief, loosing the will to live and eventually ….
Henry not able to bear the tragedy he himself had caused through his lacking self restraint desperately tried to revive them, with the only thing he ever truly excelled in: Engineering
This story reminds me of the real story of the Winchester heiress. She was left alone, a widow and bereft. She felt the many who died of her husbands Winchester guns would haunt her. A physic told her to build rooms to confuse the ghosts and that's what she did. Hall ending suddenly, strange rooms and staircases to nowhere. But this story goes beyond that to him trying to bring his family back. Excellent tale.
There are similarities between this and the Winchester house but there are also large differences
Sarah Winchester was scared of the ghosts of the people killed by her husband's guns harming her specifically, so she built the house to confuse them. In this story, the husband wanted to bring people back instead of not wanting them around. Sarah was very paranoid and scared. She also didn't have one specific place where she made the alterations to the house, the entire house is a bit of a mess.

Sounds like this is one of many stories based from the late Widowed Mad'am Winchester.
Who extended the Winchester house much like a Labyrinth in the fear of being hunted down by ghouls that hated their family for having made the weapons of all of their demise.
She eventually died in her own home, I can't quite remember if it was old age, getting lost, or something else however.

Yes, this scp is basically fnaf, an idea similar to remnant, when something dies, its agony and bad memories, (which the soul forcefully can't let go) forces it to not move on in the after life and reform into a terrifying entity at the location it died. Perfection

SCP-2696 What a case! Omfg, so honored to help with this! What actually happened, Henry opened a portal with the occult, the entity exited the portal and had enough space to move in the darkness without the seals against entities puted around, it is better to have a small house and secured protected than a big one without protection. The entity then proceed to attack Clara in her sleep and to make her body cold. The sadness lowed Henry spiritual protection an was exploited mentally to transform the house for the needs of the malevolent entity, then the Clara spirit was entrapped in an underworld dimension(that's why the whispers) and she was used as a catalyst to raise the pestilence in the house in order to grow the powers of suffering. The kids are not completely affected as they are young souls so they are ussualy used by the Clara, hardly they can be used by the entity that emerged from the portal so the entity used Clara that doesn;t really know that she is dead, is in a state of slumbering confusion as a spirit. In that underworld where her souls is trapped it is infused with radioactive pestilent powers of the demons in order to manifest in the physical plane. These entities can attack humans because are oftenly unseen and use their lower frequency to affect the health and astral bodies of humans, salt is a must. Henry vanished by a portal that appearead to target people who are in a very low state of existence, this wouldn't happen if the demon wouldn't had the spirit of Clara and kids because they use them to form a bridge between the worlds + emphaty used against humans to trick the mind, very deceiving. Storm, water + electricity => amplify any energies being them good or bad with extra energy to manifest, as well as lunar eclipse or phase can help too that specific aspect. Clara manifested as a black cloud because the spirit was extra infused at a hyper state of consumption from the underworld(this means more energy flowed form the lower realm of shadows to the physical plane). That's why demons can't manifest properly in this plane, Sun + Eart mage geomagnetic resistances to this kinds. Also consider the event of 9/11 eleven, if souls died there in agony along with the building then the two towers spawned in the lower realms to be used by demons, during certain nights of autumn I bet the demons can see during the night the world of humans and surveil us. Any teritory affected by terror is a teritory reedemed by demons that must be cleansed with good music, cleansing of the place, nature positive-kind-strong growing plants. Under the house there is an opened portal. Don't enter that house when it is cloudy, raining or night because these effects help spirits. Behind Clara possessed soul is a spirit that puppets her, if we liberate Clara thru kids also the entity will loose power gradually. Blood of Henry on the books works as a catalyzer for demon to see when the book is being opened, so let's say it has eyes on the ones who read from that book. Watchout small hatchlings parasites from hell. There is high needed of alchemist, shamans and bards(you know, guitar or isnturmentalists in general efficient singer guys).
