This is just kinda a spin of rose red. Not that I don't like it, but it really really REALLY feels like rose red. Ripping off one of the greatest authors of all time isn't exactly what I would call original, or interesting.

I think this story is a really chilling play on the concept of "Second death". It's said that you die twice, firstly when you actually die, and second when someone remembers you for the very last time. While the Burnley ghosts used to be a very regular part of the family and home, as the newer generations migrated away, died off, lost interest, or just didn't produce further offspring, the ghosts that resided within died again. The ghosts lash out because they know what's coming, and are afraid to truly die. Now the only memory of Burnley line remains in the journals and books, a shallow echo of their existence known only by those curious enough to go out of their way to read, though the readers will never have a personal or emotional stake in them. The ghosts are like a museum exhibit rather than a family, and will never ever be remembered the same way again, and thus they've truly died.

still was a stupid move on the part of the researcher though. yes lets fuck with a harmless scp. its not like her very old parents couldnt have been left to nature taking them out instead. sometimes its best to leave an scp in its current form (cough chair incident cough).
my guess is if it happened to them naturally then mary would have moved peacefully on with them. or at worst now you have to deliver a carpool of peaceful ghosts to the house if her parents joined her in haunting >_< either way you still have a harmless scp.

This was an interesting SCP, I can draw two conclusions as to what happened to the ghost within the house. Theory one; upon the death of the current author and writer of the book he was confronted most likely by a reaper those who take souls to the other side, when confronted by this reaper he expressed concern about the other spectrals and spirits within the house and the reaper decided to take them too. Considering reapers are a form of angel they are capable of cutting or severing the link to the physical plane of mortality to take them to the other side. Theory two; there is much that goes on in their world and that is safe to say that there is more in their world than just anomalies they're probably monsters too and if they're a monsters there are hunters. My guess is a hunter saw or experienced the house, did his homework all of it, on what was going on in the house and then found every single spirits remains regardless of where they were or where they were buried and managed to salt and burn them, this severed the link the physical plane. Now whatever lingers behind most likely is a death echo.

Many years later, the man was subject to a curse from a rival House. Something to plague misfortunes upon his family. In those weeks, he felt a presence by his side, one he did not even realize was there, change - morph from something to nothing. Like a black hole on his shoulder, constantly pulling - the unignorable presence of nothingness. The shaman told him plainly - his father's spirit was no longer the thing walking by his side.
It troubles me. I have seen what my forefathers have left behind. I leave behind four wonderful children and two wives. I leave behind a body of work as impressive as any scholar of the paranormal. But my children have no interest in the occult. The family's secrets will die with me.
Whatever I leave behind will be a harbinger of things to come.
maybe this here what happen. the father died or maybe was plague/curse and turn into nothingness engulfing all the spirit in the house. that is why at the end the daughter said "dad"

I just finished watching SCP 1603’s video and thought of something. What if we put it into SCP 914? We may be able to revert it back to a chair!

Even the Afterlife is not spared from this abyssal absence of nothingness.

I believe there are two possibilities to this story.
    1. The Burnley telling the story consumed the other ghosts, leaving absence in their wake and he remains in some kind of state, whether evil or good, it doesn't seem too clear
    2. And I believe this one to be more likely. The Burnley telling the story was the last to be consumed by this "nothing" he speaks of, and so he remains only as a disembodied voice warning others that "There is nothing to be afraid of" but they are unaware that he is actually warning them that the nothing truly is something to be feared.

    I got a question
If Ben 10 was part of the scp universe, and with a watch that can transform him into any creature sapient enough, would he be able to transform into most scps?
Also if he was fighting 682 what would happen first? Ben transforming into 682 or 682 copying the omnitrix's transformation powers?

How come some of the "earlier" discovered anomalies have higher numbers?
I know out of lore it's because that's the order the stories were submitted. But how does that make sense in lore?
Why is an SCP found 100 years ago start on # 5000 or whatever, while one found today is # 100.

It is left up to reader imagination, but the big one is that they assign a number to each SCP, but the number is not always in numerical order. Some SCPs have even been reclassified, like the attempts with reclassify SCP 048, which always results in nutralization or it going mia.

Perhaps the number given to an scp is just that: a number and not supposed to be in the order they were discovered

I am not clear about the ending: Was the father trying to summon the last living family member so as to erase the whole family bloodline, or was he jus trying to get his daughter back into the manor so he could once again become a "normal" ghost? Because the use of the word "nothing", and the corpses of the dead siblings lead me to believe he was trying to return everything to the manor, but to what end I'm unsure.
