I bought the Meze Elite a couple months ago. I went to a local hifi store and they had most of the highend HPs. Too bad they did not had the Meze Empyrean 2 duo-pads. I did not like the Empyrean 2 with the angled alcantara pads that much. Was missing punsh and to analytical. But they were really good with the elite leather pads like the elite. The elite did also sound great with the none angled, deep alcantara pads they had there. And the store was about to only keep angeled Empyrean 2 in stock, they sold the elite-tester, with the case, leather and the big alcantara pads, and a meze silver cable and 1 year warranty for less than a new Empyrean 2. So I took the elite since for me they were, at least with these earpads, amazing. I also tested arya oraganic, which was good but I prefered the elite sound and the comfort of the elite is still abit better than the arya and the build quality is a different world. Also tested many other HPs but no other HP was such a great package like Meze to me. I still really enjoy them and they are also great for gaming.
Watching this video with the Empy IIs on my head. And yes, I should agree I got to like it even better for the last four months. Plus this thing is plugged straight into my M2 Pro since I couldn't bring my bulky dac/amps from home.
@@anatol1204 There is no general answer to that because the focus is different for both. The LCD4 has an omnipresent bass whose energy is always noticeable. The sound is very energetic and just fun. The MR has the best midrange in a headphone I've ever heard, no comparison to an HD600. You get a lot of information and for me it has exactly the right position in the sound image. Echoes and reverb effects are given a very three dimensional woeder. The sound is generally very three-dimensional and open. However, information is reproduced in a natural way. The sound is neither sharp nor intrusive. For me personally, after all the headphones and in-ears I've heard, the MR is the best.
Came back to this video just to see what I missed about your feelings on this headphone but it brought up a point for me. I have the original that I got from eBay for a VERY reasonable price, and when it arrived my hype to performance was not so great. To me it sounded like a slightly improved sundara. However my love for that headphone has only grown the more I listen to it. It truly is a work of art and the best headphone I’ve ever heard to this date. Honestly I would probably have an interest in the second version but that cut to the bass makes me less intrigued.
Thanks for your wonderful update. May I ask if you EQ the headphone and If you do would you be so kind to let us know what you EQ-ed? Or can you explain why you did not EQ? Cheers Fonz
I'm still enjoying my first Empyrean. Had to replace the cable 2 times due to not storing headphones properly (was laying them flat on the table). No other complaints. People underestimate how comfy Empyreans are

@@barbarapearce7323, most headphones over USD$2,000 are not worth the price, due to the law of diminishing returns. However, I would buy the Susvara (Unveiled?) at about half the list price.

Hi Josh, thanks for the content. I find allot of varying views on the importance of cables online. I have the Abyss MR headphones connected thru a Aune S9cd DAC and Woo Audio W-22 tube amp. My MR’s have a 4.4mm end so I’m using an XLR adapter. Do you think I’m sacrificing anything? Should I buy the $550 Abyss XLR cable? Thanks again!
The Empy II is a little bit on the slow end when it comes to dynamics, making it one of those jazz and vocals oriented headphones. And I can listen only to _that_ much Diana Krall. This is why I am running the Empy II with the class A Mjolnir 3 . And that amp just kicks the Empy II in the ass and now it simply sounds good with _everything_. Guess it is my headphone endgame, I really do not need anything high fi-er than that.
The Hifiman HE 100 se is not just better in detail retrieval, its better in any part of technicality and sometimes by far for now a much lower priece, so its not just a better headphone it is an even bigger quality price ratio and it sounds at least as natural than the Meze empyrian II.
Are the earcups as big on the empy 2's as the Arya Organic? I love the Organic sound but don't like how the earcups hit the jawline and move around. Also can you compare the empy 2 to the Elite sound?

I am owner of HD800S, honestly they are at different price level like HD800S around 1000$ while emp2 around 2000$ at least. I tried emp2 recently, and I can say HD800S still sounds great in orchestra music but for other genres emp2 is way better than HD800S.
I own the Empyrean 2 for about 5 weeks now and I have to admit in the beginning I didn't like them at all. There was a lack of sub base and I missed the detail in the upper mids and lower highs. After 50-60 hours of listening they opened up on me. They really need a good time of burn-in. With a good amplification they really shine. I mostly use the Empy 2 with the HiBy RS8 DAP together with the Cayin C9 amplifier, both portable devices but this combination make these headphones sing.

Bad decision. Elite 2 is coming … the good news is that you did not bought SUSVARA because of release SUSVARA 2 recently.
I have Elites, and I can recommend those for atmospheric games, but not for FPS where directional cues are important. For those I use Stealth.

Do you think the same way on the Diana MR you talked 6 months ago?
I tried MR at Amsterdam and it wasn't good at all. Empy II, The Composer and E3 was perfect. Even 1K ZMF Atticus was better than MR.
@@coardtechIt depends on your gear and your preferences. Also which Pads do you use. I like my MR very much and prefer it over an LCD4 or Empyrian
