So many great albums to choose there. Many are my faves: Shake Some Action, Pices, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones, Hunky Dory, Muswell Hillbillies, Tonight's The Night and Time Fades Away are amazing! (you should find a copy of Neil Young's "On The Beach" to complete the Ditch Trilogy)
BTW there's another version of The Buffalo Springfield retrospective that has a 12 minute version of Bluebird (i think it might be the double album version)

I met Richie Havens in the Ninties! He was performing at a small community event in Johnson City TN. He hung out after the performance and met each member of the modest audience and conversed with my small group of enthusiastic friends. He was very kind and I think he was the best interpreter of Dylan. I met Country Joe McDonald a couple years later in Ashville, pretty much the same story. I'm thinking of going to Nashville to try to meet Melanie so I can have the Woodstock triffecta.

Many younger people don't realize that prior to the 1970's almost no one had a pair of headphones. Some people had an earpiece to plug into a transistor radio, but, of course, that was in mono. In 1968 I snagged a set of headphones from a radio station, but they were wired for mono. I rewired them for stereo and I listened to Beggars Banquet for the first time. Later on, when the White Album came out, I was hanging with a buddy who was going to Haverford College and he had the first set of headphones that I ever saw someone else have. And these were high quality stereo headphones! Needless to say it was glorious! So, getting back to the point of this conversation, stereo mixes prior to the 1970's (with few exceptions) were made to be played on stereo consoles, which were large pieces of furniture with a fm radio and record player sunk in the middle with the heavy wooden lid that would be lowered down during play and lifted up to make program changes. On either end of the console would be the left and right speaker, approximately six feet apart. The entire purpose of the mix was to separate the sounds in order to make them clearer to the listeners who would be either sitting on a sofa or chair ten or fifteen feet away or milling about during some party or gathering. The sound would remix in the air and on the whole this worked out fine. The last thing that the sound engineers envisioned was for someone to add a stereo jack and begin to listen on headphones! This is the reason those early mixes sound so bad on headphones. They were never meant to be heard that way!

@@alanclayton9277 Cheers! Just glad to help Abigail with her collection. I don't think Abby has too many UK pressings. UK vinyl in the 1960s was quite a bit better quality than its U.S counterpart. The `Rubber Soul` there, does have a few light marks-but because the vinyl is so durable, it plays superbly, and will play many more times than a 1960s U.S copy. Same for the `Please Please Me` `Butterfly` and `Doughnut` albums. Those are my old copies as I `upgraded` I still have a few more albums to upgrade-and will send Abigail more after Christmas!

I totally understand the reaction to the "Now And Then" video, I felt like technically they were trying to connect the past with the present, which fitted the song, but I got the reaction. I love the song in it's own way, as it feels like the trifecta of "Free As A Bird, Real Love", glad it exists.

24:18 Journey Through the Past - okay, NOW you're TALKIN'!!! It was the first Neil Young album I ever heard. I borrowed it from a local library and was disappointed it didn't have Heart of Gold on it. I'm the only member of my family who likes Neil Young, so there were no albums in the house until I started working. ANYWAY - I gave Journey Through the Past a chance and it was the best idea ever, because of tracks such as For What it's Worth/Mr. Soul, Words, Old Man, Southern Man, Ohio - and this is what I know is my favorite song on the LP "Soldier". I was pissed off that Decade cut a piano solo out of it for time and I couldn't see Soldier on CD until I stumbled across the Archives a few years ago - borrowed from my current local library, copied, ripped, burned onto my I tunes account, the Journey Through the Past version of Soldier is the definitive one.
Thank you for all you do, Abby.

Wow, what friggin' haul! I LOVE your taste in music! I'm 70 years old, and I actually owned many of those albums back in the 1960s (including even the 'Ultimate Spinach'). Of course, they're all long gone now. I'm not currently an album collector, but when I saw you holding up the UK 'Rubber Soul' mono album, I confess that I felt a tinge of jealousy. *sigh* ('Rubber Soul' is my favorite Beatles album. Also, 'Blonde on Blonde' is my favorite Dylan.) Back in the day, I was just old enough to attend a few rock concerts in the late-60s/early-70s, for example, I got to see Cream live in '67, and the Who at their peak (the 'Who's Next' tour in '71). Oh, the memories...

I probably should've said this on the mc5 video but your hair on the thumbnail was so pretty. My family for years always had me cut my hair short and it was hard to get a comb through it. It made me kinda resent it. I thought my hair was just a freak genetic accident down here in Florida but that thumbnail reminded me how beautiful that hair is, how awesome the mc5 is and why that expression is important. Thank you.

Dude, I really dig the dress! I'm so jealous of you right now with all these albums, lol.
Eric recorded his first solo album after Delaney and Friends and in fact, Delaney was producing the album (I think he got kicked off it though) and pretty much helped Clapton learn how to sing on it.
Try Nikhil Banerjee's "Malgunji 1980, I like Ravi Shankar but I think Banerjee is better, at least on this album. When I first started meditating, I would meditate with Metalica's "Orion" stuck on a loop.

Richie Havens is so underrated. A beautiful soul. The "first record" is actually some demos that were rushed out under dubious circs after Woodstock IIRC, along with Electric Havens. Both are amazing despite (because of?) being bare bones.

I've been meaning to send you some subscriber mail as well - there's lots of great bands from Britain that in the US are practically unknown or are less popular - Slade, Status Quo, Roxy Music, Sparks, The Jam, Groundhogs, 10CC etc....

Glad you got a copy of "Zuma" with the real cover, but I bet the one I sent sounds better. I'm also happy you're getting more Kinks, my favorite band. If you need a copy of "Soap Opera," I have two. Critics slag that one, but I love it so much that when I got the chance to meet Ray Davies and get one thing autographed, I could have picked something far more collectible, but that's what I chose.
It's always funny to me to hear you talk about how rare, expensive and sought-after some of these albums are. I picked them up when you could find them in every garage sale and cutout bin for $1.99. That's how I became a Guess Who fan: by buying all their great but low-selling albums like "So Long, Bannatyne" and "Rockin'" at Woolco for two bucks.
I'm glad you now have the Clash's debut LP (which I prefer to "London Calling.") Now I don't have to send you mine, which is a promo signed by the entire band that I hope will pay for my retirement someday. Also, check out "New Sensations," one of my favorite Lou Reed albums (it's a bit more commercial, but sue me, I like catchy tunes.) Finally, I'm still scouring my garage for "Walk Away Renee." I know I've got it somewhere! If I can ever find it, it will be winging its way to you. It needs a good home where it will be appreciated.

"Cope. Cope harder. Cope hardest." made me laugh so hard. I'm a massive music snob but goddamn do I love her lyricism. She's such an incredible songwriter and the rest of the world needs to LEARN!

YES! "Moondance" such a superb album, cannot wait for your reaction. I have that Paul Butterfield album too. ""Then Play On" was a great album, my U.K. copy does not have "Oh Well" on, but I use the 45 version as intro to many vinyl sets.

Yes, "Astral Weeks" is vastly superior to the mostly easy-listening "Moondance".

Good to see you and your ever-growing collection again! Slightly bummed that you didn't find Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock, after all, they are practically impossible to find in record shops, but they are out there somewhere. In my opinion, it's best if they're covered together in one video cos they're technically sister albums and the story of the final album is a continuation from the fallout of Eden's release.

As far as I'm aware Paul McCartney added Carnival of Light to a film based on Linda McCartney's photographs of the Grateful Dead outside their home in Haight Ashbury and was shown in a Linda McCartney photography expedition which I saw in Vienna around 10 years ago.

11:30 I'm pretty sure the reason you have a hard time finding Kinks records is because they were actually banned from performing in the US for a long time because of some controversy about their rowdy on-stage antics, thus they never sold a lot of records in America.
