  • In this video, unbox a superb set of UK original vinyl albums dating from c.1970 - all of which are in as close to 'as new' MINT condition as you could possible hope to find. The collection also includes a rare greatest hits album from Denmark and a dodgy U.S. copy of 'Let It Be'. So grab yourself a beverage of your choice and enjoy the action.

      I bought one of those a few years ago off Ebay, suspecting it was a counterfeit copy (it was very cheap); I already had a genuine US one, and on playing it....oh boy!! It was counterfeit alright!!😆
      It sounds like it was recorded onto a portable cassette player in a DIFFERENT room to the record player playing the original.....!! 🤣
      I still have it as an 'interesting' curio..!!

      Let It Be is one the most heavily counterfeited albums in history. Presumably because for some time in many places the only option was the expensive box set.

      Yeah man the copy I’ve had for about 15 years is a counterfeit. Just found out recently when I tried to put it in Discogs. The whole time I just thought it was a particularly god awful sounding US release..

    Congratulations, Andrew! I‘m glad that the records are in such a perfect condition. Enjoy! - Perhaps here‘s an idea for a future video: You must own now an enormous collection with many variations of each Beatles album. Let‘s make a mental game: If you were allowed to keep only ONE copy of each original album: which ones would they be? - Greetings from Berlin, Harry

    I received my own box of goodies yesterday from the UK, With The Beatles, A Hard Days Night, Revolver and Sgt Peppers, all crisp and clean late 60's pressings with flipbacks and beautiful glossy covers, they're so clean I'm too scared to touch them even with white cotton gloves.
    Keep up the great work Andrew.

    Hello Andrew, another tell-tale sign of a counterfeil Let It Be is a cut corner, as they were mostly sold in the Bargain Bins. A legitimate Let it Be would never have been cut. I used to see them everywhere, but I haven't actually seen one in a while. Enjoy it :) Take care...

    The insert at 10:27 fascinates me. You've got to love how Capitol credits From Me to You and A Hard Day's Night as being from the Help! soundtrack, even though those were just instrumentals for the score.

    • @recordtime4923
      @recordtime4923 2 роки тому +1

      I remember that insert with my original copy. Those cuts were never on a Capitol LP before so they just said they were from “Help!” and maybe hoped no one would notice. So much for attention to detail hahaha!

    I was watching this and it occurred to me, what an extraordinary thing to do - have it all arrive in 1 day!
    I started in 1980, with battered copies of Help and Let it be. I think Rock n' Roll Vol 1 & 2 came next (mfp label) and then it took years, more than a decade and a half to get the full set!

    Ah the counterfeit Let It Be! United Artists stopped pressing the album in the mid 70s and it wasn’t pressed again until Capitol bought UA out in 1979, at which point Capitol re-released the album without the gatefold but with an inner sleeve that had the gatefold photos. As you can see, the fakes were very shoddy and attempted to replicate the originals by scribbling Phil+Ronnie in the deadwax. However, they neglected to put Bell Sound which is the tell tale sign this is not authentic. A cool piece of American Beatles history though!

    • @jmad627
      @jmad627 2 роки тому +2

      I had this Capitol issue. Without the gatefold and the photos on the inner sleeve. It got appropriated by a former roommate along with three other LPs. I still have the poster that came with it though.
      Now if it was counterfeit or not, I couldn’t say.

  • @bigbadm1
    @bigbadm1 2 роки тому +4

    My first copy of "Let It Be" was a counterfeit. It Had "Phil + Ronnie" on the innergroove. It was thick vinyl and the music was Low-Fi and practically mono. But back in 1974, when I bought the album, I looked at it being a United Artists LP and didn't think too much of it 'till I bought the British version. You couldn't find a legit American version of the album and I found it at a Penny Market.

  • @stevesstuff1450
    @stevesstuff1450 2 роки тому +3

    That's a fabulous collection! You need to find out where that guy keeps his time machine parked; those UK LPs are immaculate!
    I have a copy of that US 62-66 Red album which has the Blue album label blanks, but printed correctly for the Red... I think I read somewhere that there was a mistake at the pressing plant in '73, and some of these slipped through! 🙂
    Nice to have! 😉

    You always amaze me with your knowledge Andrew. Just by looking at a sleeve and then taking out a disc you already know pretty much which matrix it has in the run off, if the label tallies with the numbers or not as to when it was issued and then spotted the counterfeit pressing a mile off!! I would have had no clue. Great stuff and thanks. What an amazing collection to find. I dread to think how much that cost you, even before you had to import it, but got to be worth every penny.

    Bought a counterfeit Let It Be at a market in the former New Territories in Hong Kong in 71.
    What caught my eye was that it was green as opposed to black! It was only a few dollars got it as a curiosity piece. Recall friends there at the time owning Beatles Sgt Pepper, White & Abbey albums in coloured vinyl, which I had never seen before or since.

    Oh Andrew, I never get tired of watching you unboxing 😆
    Just a thought that came while I was watching this: was it unusual to find early pressings around 1970-71? Was it just a game of luck and right timing?
    What's your favourite cover? I think I'll go with Rubber Soul.

    Wonderful stuff as always Andrew. And lo and behold, turns out I’ve got a Let It Be counterfeit sat on my shelf. Bought it at a UK fair back in the 90’s. Brilliant! That was worth every minute! I was drooling I must say! Even when you got to the Boot of Let It Be! I’ve seen really good copies of the boot. That cut corner (usually denoted a record store “promo” or “cut out” - cheaper price) was a good indicator. Even before you picked it up I could tell (while you were chatting about prior Lp) the lighter front cover that it was the boot. There should be some really good red label boots out there where the text was a bit blurry.
    I love that you got such a beautiful clean collection this time! Unbelievable!
    Great job on info as always!! Made my day!

    The little blurb at the bottom of the Blue Album insert about official releases is likely a reference to the Aloha Omega box set which, I believe, these sets (Red and Blue) were a reaction to. That’s a fun set too.

    I remember when I purchased the Red and Blue albums that they had those cards in there. Since these were the first two Beatles albums I bought, the larger card had all the info. as to songs and which albums they came from. Not to mention all the different formats like cassette and 8-track. That got me started in collecting The Beatles knowing the albums they came from (except From Me To You, which was only released as a single).

    Great video Andrew. Someone must've spent a fortune in the Record Shop in Great Yarmouth. I've looked on the internet and it doesn't seem to exist as a record shop now. There was a record shop in Leighton Buzzard where I grew up that seems very similar. They had a lot of American imports. I used to go in there every week, spending all my spare cash. I've got a U.S. L.P. pressing of Magical Mystery Tour with an Apple label that I bought from there .

    They were sold in department stores .
    If I recall the price was $16.95 in the shrink.
    Nobody was buying it .

      Those rainbow MMT's with subsidiary print are VERY hard to find, obviously because so few were printed before Capitol quit issuing the rainbow label (as I understand, this happened in the latter half of 1968). All the other subsidiary rainbow labels are still quite easy to find, but not the MMT.

    A comment on "The Beatles' Hottest Hits": -the perfect album back in 1965. In contained all the non-album singles at the time and the "Long Tall Sally" EP. A friend of mine had it, but I never found a copy myself. In 1981 however I got the "Beatles in Italy" album. It contained all the same titles only had "She Loves you"/"I'lll get You" been exchanged with "Ticket to Ride"/"Yes it is"

    Hi Andrew - I've owned a counterfeit Let It Be. From my experience they are always a counterfeit of a Scranton pressing, never Winchester or anywhere else. The dead giveaway is that the counterfeiters were unable to stamp the "IAM" triangle logo on the runout, instead having to clumsily etch one in by hand. The rest of the runouts look identical to the real thing, leading me to believe they were somehow able to copy the "Phil + Ronnie" and the rest of the information that is etched. Only the Scranton stamp sets it apart. Once you've seen one, it is clear as day.
    The quality of the label itself isn't a very reliable indicator, as the genuine labels from that time were fairly dodgy-looking as well for some reason. Quite grainy and a little soft with the text. Always look for the Scranton stamp!
    Great video - I always look forward to the unboxing ones. :)

      Thanks Davis. That clumsy 'IAM' symbol is indeed present on this copy.

      Or you can check whether the inner indentation is genuine or photographed. That's what's up with my copy and it looks like yours too but you'd surely have noticed.

      @@Parlogram Oh well, that's a shame. All is not lost if you plan on doing a video in the future about counterfeit albums. It would be a very educational video and also important for collectors, of which I'm sure a significant percentage of your subscribers are. The comment section is primarily discussion over counterfeits, so there is certainly interest. As I'm confident you know all about already, another very common counterfeit is the 1964 US album Introducing The Beatles on Vee-Jay. This album has a really interesting history, and in fact would make for a great video in general, genuine and counterfeit.

    Hi Andrew! Wow. great records you with this package. Ireally love these kind of unboxing videlos And I am really looking forward for your Star Club video. The Star Club tapes show, how great the Beatles were as a live band in that time. Unfortunately, sound quality is so poor. But maybe you have a recommendation for the best version.

    Great collection. I knew the Let It Be was a bootleg. I own one and the side two label gives it away every time.

    I heard an interview with early Beatles manager Alan Williams in which he said offering the Star Club tapes to Apple was a mistake, because after he rejected their initial lowball offer, he felt his life was in danger. He went on to say that since they couldn't buy the tapes, Apple instead purchased the building where his office was (and the tapes were kept), and had it torn down soon afterward. Nice folks.

    Here in the States, I got a counterfeit 'Let It Be' at my local Woolworth's in the cut-out bin. Must have been around 1979.....

    I think it’s safe to say that nobody has listened to The Beatles Story very many times. 🙂 I distinctly remember my disappointment the first time I spun those records. It’s amazing that Capitol kept that title in print into the 1980s. I guess people still wanted to hear about those sneaky haircuts!
