      Those artifacts you see in ME1, 2 and 3... That 'spheres', it's a kind of a tool that Leviathan uses to observe and exercise his power. On Leviathan DLC you see Leviathan pull down a Reaper through these artifacts. His fight is indirect...

      TomeOfBattle ... Why are you offering your opinion when you haven't even played let alone finished a single game? Granted, the ending of Mass Effect 3 was, horrible in the most epic way. The entire ride was AMAZING... the BEST build up I've seen in ANY trilogy. THIS was it, what you had been working up to for three games and a lot had happened along the way. You couldn't save everybody, but it got to this point. AND THEN BOOM FUCKING GREEN BLUE RED BITCHES. You don't know true anger till you've played the games. But, regardless of the last 5 minutes, that doesn't mean the rest of the game was bad. By all means, the entire journey more than made up for the last few minutes. Also, he asked about characters, visual, graphics, action, music, all things balders gate (a very good game, don't get me wrong) is lacking as it is completely different type of game.

    Augh. I always find it annoying when entire battle fleets in space chose one specific plane and attack from it with very little deviation from it. Damn it, you're in space! • @Servellion

      Pretty much. Constricting yourself to one plane makes your fleet vulnerable from multiple angles and most ships don't have a full 360 field of fire. Hell most scifi ships are particularly vulnerable from below and behind.

      Mass Effect capital ships are like the UNSC ships from Halo. The big guns shoot forward because they have to. The 'main gun' of a dreadnaught is half to three-quarters the length of the ship, in order to accelerate the slug to the required velocity. So you can put a mass driver off to the side, but it's a lot less powerful.

      In the mass effect universe the relays are used to travel to sectors of the galaxy that are hundreds or thousands of light years away. The ships still have FTL capabilities, but can travel only 12 to 15 lightyears a day.
      So they are not trapped in the Sol system and they can go to other near star systems, which surely have colonies or habitable planets. But for the ships of the other races they would have to travel decades for returning to their home planets

    • @DarkSpyro707
      @DarkSpyro707 9 років тому +2

      Not really, in the story of Mass Effect this was pretty much just another boring battle for the Reapers since they've done this a bunch of times now over the course of thousands of years. By the end of the battle you saw that most of the fleet was gone. If they were really confident that they cold beat the reapers conventionally, they wouldn't have wasted their time and valuable money with the Crucible. To solidify this fact if Shepard chooses to not pick Green, Blue, or Red and shoot the child you actually lose and the Reapers continue their genocide cycle.
      TL;DR, No, they weren't winning, at all.

    • @jakewilliams6347
      @jakewilliams6347 9 років тому +1

      DarkSpyro707 I think what she means is that if the game was expanded a little bit and a bit more effort was put into the end, there would have been a separate ending where the Crucible turned out to be a useless construction. In my games, I ALWAYS have over 6000 readiness, and with the way the beginning starts, the fleets are winning. That, and the other eras didn't have a damn Shepard.

    • @Cylus1527
      @Cylus1527 9 років тому +6

      DarkSpyro707 No, in every previous cycle the first thing the reapers did was take control of the citadel and hack the mass relays so they would only work for ships that the reapers approved. Then they would go to the now isolated systems and destroy them at their leisure. This was the first time the reapers were facing the full force of a united galaxy and I really hate how the developers don't give that fact any consideration.

    • @jakewilliams6347
      @jakewilliams6347 9 років тому

      +Landon Morrison That's very true.

    • @TOONYBOY
      @TOONYBOY 3 роки тому

      You know what would have been a great way to allow the galaxy to beat the Reaper's "conventionally"? If they had a plot/plan to infiltrate the Citadel and find a way to hack the relays and make it so the Reaper's can't use them. They could even have a race against time element which depending on your choices and successes ends up working in your favour, if a decent slice of the Reaper fleet were chasing a McGuffin of some kind then they could be preparing to use the relays, (establish that if they were successful and destroyed/captured Mcguffin, it would be really bad and you wouldn't get the best ending) If you manage to hack the relays in time then the Reaper's use the relays and get destroyed. Now the Reapers are cut off from their reinforcements and the Allied forces can pick them off a bit at a time.
      A way to make their conventional victory a bit more believable would be to remake ME2 a little and establish that the Council is trying everything to prepare for the Reaper's but their ships/technology simply aren't strong enough to be efficient in a battle since a single Reaper is capable of taking on dozens of ships on it's own, and their are potentially thousands of Reapers. They could say that there's not enough remaining of Sovereign to properly analyse the Reaper's shield tech and replicate it so they send Shepard out into Geth systems to try and retrieve what they know about the Reapers. This objective could have been bolstered/achieved by the resolution to the Geth/Quarian war with the Geth teaching the rest of the galaxy how to reinforce their ships with better shields and the Quarians teaching everyone their ability to make ship engines and weapons more conservative in their fuel/power usage, allowing them to both fire more powerful/faster shots while perform more complex manoeuvre's speeds without overheating their engines as well as reinforcing the Allied forces with their own ships.
      Each species in the game should have a genuine recognisable contribution to both the space battle and the ground battle, not just a piece of dialogue that says "this fleet is here" and some ship models that die in a cutscene and a number that says X amount of war assets. An example is what on earth did the Destiny Ascension contribute to the fight? It was there in the cutscene when the fleets showed up but what did it actually do?

    • @asheer9114
      @asheer9114 10 років тому +4

      WUZLE Problem is that Reaper Kinetic barriers are set to deflect physical projectiles not energy based weapons like photon torpedoes for example (actually aside of the Geth no ME civilizations (Reapers including) use energy based weapons as thier primary armament) so even ToS Connie with her phasers and torps could become true DeM in ME Universe because Trek shields could be modulated to deflect both physical and energy weapons.

    • @edglass7964
      @edglass7964 10 років тому +14

      Really, the vast majority of Scifi navies could wipe the floor with ME ships (Reapers included), simply because Bioware's portrayal of space combat and FTL is more grounded in reality than many other franchises. Star Trek especially though, I think it's hinted on occasion that a well-armed starship is actually capable of rendering a planet uninhabitable. There's also the one-klilometer size limit for eezo-driven ships, which would put even the Reapers (2km) at a disadvantage against Halo-style vessels that are 5km or more.

    • @saquist
      @saquist 10 років тому +5

      Ed Glass
      What's size got to do with it? A Galaxy Class ship has enough anti matter destroy earth 35 times over. The truth is all sci fi genre's limit fire power and tactics to WW II level of fighting between ships in visual range and fighter tactics.

    • @WUZLE
      @WUZLE 10 років тому +2

      That is of course wrong. It takes an enormous amount of even antimatter to destroy a planet, far more than any Enterprise has carried. They could take out all major cities with photons right enough, but the Enterprise does not carry a trillion tons of antimatter, and that's about what it would take. Antimatter only yields about 42 megatons of explosive energy per kilogram, which is a lot, but not world ending.

    I was there....... This clip sugar coats a lot of what happened....... the truth is that D-Day was like a mere child playing in the park..... we fought to save our people from extinction and yet so SO many faced that very extinction during this battle....... The Geth to name one.....
    The Reapers to name another.......
    When my battalion learned that The Reapers were the downloaded conciousness of countless civilizations from countless cycles....... It made most of my forces question what we had just done....... In the end, who were really the Reapers? The cybernetic space squids?
    Or us?

    Reapers can deploy drones that act as fighters. Their shielding is so strong that any other form of weaponry is impractical for their size. Each "tentacle" has its own weapon along with the spinal cannon in which capital ships only carry. Its cannon is a Magnetohydrodynamic Cannon that fires molten metal which can liquify a ships hull in a heart beat.

      I'll take genetic rape of mind control or genocide.

    • @Anglomachian
      @Anglomachian 6 років тому

      I'm not particularly sure why it is that imbuing the galaxy with a sense of common empathy is a bad choice. I mean, I know you call it rape, and I think I know why, but rape is an intentionally malevolent act of sexual violation.
      Changing one's genome, which statistically happens once every 30,000 replication of your cells, is hardly malevolent or I'd even argue a violation. It hardly changes who you are in the cosmic sense.
      And the reason the options were there is because an unstoppable race of sentient cuttlefish robots were purging the galaxy of sentient life. Frankly if all I have to do to stop that and get the ancient death robots to be my friends is change a few of my veins into circuits, I think I can live with it.
      Also, it's the only option that actually addresses the issue at hand: organics vs. synthetics.

    • @Anglomachian
      @Anglomachian 6 років тому

      I honestly cannot believe we're having this conversation. You're adding all this emotional baggage by calling it "rape", when it was still the only solution to the long term problem: organics vs. synthetics.
      Again, your genome changes all the damn time, and it doesn't bother you. You don't even notice it. It's not "rape" when nature does it, but when a machine does it at the behest of one individual, that's where you draw the line?
      Also you're kind of brushing past the point that by joining together in this big alliance and deciding on the plan, the sentient races of the galaxy essentially consented to whatever outcome Shepard made. So not only is it not rape by definition, it's also not rape by permission.

    • @Anglomachian
      @Anglomachian 6 років тому

      And you're acting like some petty millenial, allowing your emotions to blast practicality into a meaningless philosophical discussion of morality. I'm sorry that it makes you feel uncomfortable, but sometimes life is uncomfortable, sometimes it doesn't give you a nice option, and complaining to me about it doesn't change that. The fact of the matter is that no matter what you do in the game, it comes down to this ending, with these choices. Hindsight would have been nice, but if you didn't notice, the robot cuttlefish were super smart and manipulative, and you don't get to choose.
      And I'm sorry, but if you're actually going to sit there and tell me that when presented with the options given, you *wouldn't* choose the only option where everyone gets to live just because it might hurt you precious fee-fees, then *you* are a monster. If I had to "play god" (which is yet another hyperbolic, emotion-manipulating term that lacks any real meaning, like what you're doing with the word "rape") and make the decision that needs making so that parents can go home to their children, then in my opinion the sacrifice of my moral integrity is a bargain.
      And the game does not imply that anyone lost their free will. Show me where, and I'll admit error, but until then you're talking out your ass.
      I'll let you get the last word in if you want, but as far as I'm concerned this conversation is over. I'll not discuss morality whilst being treated as I am being by someone with the emotional development of a teenager and the perspective of someone who hasn't stepped out of Philosophy 101.

      One thing about quarians I don't get. During 3 parts of the game Shepard visits dozens of uninhabited worlds with human-friendly environments (and it is implied there are dozens more). Still for so many years quarians haven't settled down on any of such planets, but keep traveling in old half-ruined ships constantly seeking for resources.

      True, but they were not fighting back. They were flying across the galaxy in half-ruined fleet of ship for centuries, constantly having issues with resources and overpopulation. They planned to retake their homeworld one day, yes. But I think from any practical point of view it's better to establish temporary colony on a planet where you have room to expand and resources.

      TheSpateman I was about to ask...it seems that in more than one shot, the Geth and the Quarians are shooting at *each other*, rather than who they SHOULD be firing at, the Reapers (that, and the Geth Dreadnought is in the background in some shots, when, regardless of the outcome of the Geth-Quarian war, it should've been blown to hell and gone over Rannoch; though its implied that the Geth have as many dreadnoughts as the Turians, unbound as they are by the Treaty of Farixen--maybe the one over Rannoch was the only one they had in the area at the time).

And Sovereign-class reapers ("reaper ships") are also armed with multiple cannons in their "tendrils". Also, they have a point defense system similiar to GARDIAN systems used by organics.

    An ancient race of machines Called the Reapers that return every 50,000 years to destroy all species advanced enough to pose a threat. Shepard, commander of Normandy unites all races of the galaxy in a final assault against this seemingly invincible race. Only your choices through the game can save humanity and all other races. This is (in my opinion) the best possible outcome. Loosing millions to save billions and eliminating the Reaper threat once and for all.
