I was a Yamaha employee and received their employee discount when buying a product they make. It's normally 40% below retail, but occasionally when you place your order the guy in charge will call you and make a deal on something else they want to get rid of. I had ordered a 2022 RevStar and he called me up and said he had a brand new 2020 that retailed for $1999 and he would sell it to me for $899. It was in Sunset Burst and the one I had ordered was black/cream. 60% off? Hell yes. It was slated for some guitar show that was cancelled because of the pandemic and they needed to clear it off the books. The fact that I could buy with that kind of discount is what turned my on to the RevStar. I would have never given them a glance had they not been such a good deal. But now that I own it? It is easily as good as any Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, Gretsch, PRS, or other big name brand. And the Pacifica's are such a great value compared to a Strat. These guys are no joke. They are top shelf

Rev Stars just have “ it” PRS, Anderson, Suhr, Ernie Ball level , precision, yet a very comfortable feel. perfect weight and balance, musically useful pickups. Would cost a small fortune if it were made in the 70s and had an F or G on the headstock. We are in a golden age for guitars, Love Yamaha so underrated.

I bought a black revstar standard with p90, arrived yesterday. Just wow. Such a fine instrument. The built quality is some of the best I've seen (definitely on the same level as PRS for example), the setup is perfect. The intonation is spot on. It sounds very sweet and has lots of versatility. And what I didn't expect the guitar feels so good in the hand and when playing. You can really feel that they thought about every inch of the guitar and tried to make it as good as it can be. And then it's also so (relatively) cheap!? I mean if you are looking for a new guitar and want something else than the regular Fender/Gibson stuff Yamaha Revstar is the way to go.

To add my two penn'orth, for me its the best guitar I own, forget the price tag. I have the weird (but gorgeous) semi-matt greenish looking 502. Build, neck, feel , all spot on straight out of the box. Pickups amazingly crystal clear, precise P90 sound, and a frikkin' amazing tone control that totally yet progressively (controllably) changes the sound. It just seems to be crispy everywhere, nothing wasted, nothing unnecessary. And, to my eye at least, it is sinful in its beauty. I'm disgracefully old school, from an era when we played whatever we could afford, and this drops somehow into that box in the sense that it requires no pedals, no great setup, no nothing for it to get out there and play and sound smooth/pretty or down and dirty. I love it to death. Context, I have a variety in the 'collection' that includes Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, a Rickenbacker, a home-built beauty with a '50's Gibson P90, right up to a '64 cherry red 335. If I could only keep one, I'd keep the 335 for the money, I'd keep the Revstar for the sound and the fun. Do I love it? You betcha.

Im a gear snob and totally support made in USA whenever possible. But im fighting an uphill battle alone and I cant win, and if you cant beat em, join em right? Right now, grab a Rev standard and a Katana 100 and you’re good. Pretty much everything you need under 1500 for almost any gig. Thats the perfect beater rig for the bar. Keep the good heavy gear at home. Safe and sound. Im considering one myself. Even though made in Indonesia, of course made in Japan would be my first choice, but for Indonesia, its Yamaha, they wont allow junk with their name on it. As far a tone I can tell but the difference is very slight. If Yamaha could put out something that competes with the Katana, they have a winning combo.

The Yamaha Revstar Standard RSS02THML Electric Guitar w/ Gig Bag (Hot Merlot) retails in my neck of the woods - Australia east coast - for $1,299. By comparison the Ibanez RX40, a brilliant guitar with whammy bar is currently $349.00, and a Squier Bullet Strat or Squier Bullet Tele are also $349.00. These three very affordable guitars are I'm certain equal in finish quality to the Revstar, if not indeed superior, and offer more bang for buck including play-ability and they sound terrific. And I'm not big on the Revstar's overall odd shape either.

What i love about this guitar is simply how Fnin cool it is. It has tahen the Yamaha SG1000, from the late 70's/ early80's (Which was a Les Paul killer)...(And weighed a fnaffing tonne)., and given it an offset aesthetic, which at first I wasn't taken by.
The reason I didnt see it sooner was simply because I fell in love with the chrome tail piece, which is so damn cool. The neck inlays are gorgeous, the tone/vol knobs, gorgeous, the shape of the headstock, pure gorgeous, thefull body and neck binding...gorgeous and those are just the aesthetics.
The only thing s I dislike about the Standard which I have is that the machine heads let it down. It doesn't stay in tune (for me), so I will probably invest in some Hipshot's because I love their stability.
It's an amazing guitar which sounds fantastic, looks fantastic and should be a future classic. If this guitar had come out in the sixties, it would probably have killed both Gibs and Fendr.

That's some very tasty playing. It's criminal that you don't have more subs.

Killer guitar. Is the hardware nickel or chrome? Only thing I would change is the poly coating, and to nickel hardware if it is chrome.

I will echo many of the comments by saying I too have the last generation 502 stoptail in shop black and it’s a phenomenal guitar. By far the nicest neck on any guitar I’ve owned (I’m not a high end guy but I do have an American made Tele, a PRS SE and the ‘Epiphone 59 Outfit Les Paul). I got it used because I liked the old design and the fact that there are very few of them on Reverb or other used sites I think demonstrates their high value for the money. People hang onto them. I’ll definitely be hanging on to mine.

I just bought an element for £350 (I got it cheaper because no one wanted the yellow one) i absolutely love it, I recently got to play my friends £600+ Mexican telecaster...and I gotta say...the element is just better. Can't wait to get my hands on a standard

Great tones sir! I grabbed one of the humbucker version 3 years ago (1st gen?) to scratch my Les Paul itch and it more than filled that duty. I love it but typically play single coils (or bass) most of the time… I need to play it more. When the p90s become available I’ll think about getting one.

I've got one from each generation and think they are great.. ..have the Bigsby model and the reboot with single coils (as well a few other electrics by Gibson and Godin), however as far as 'Best under $1K'? One would have to look close at the Ibanez AR325/420 to see serious 'competition' in the price range. I am bringing one guitar with me as on a 4 month trip.. and after much musing.. I'm taking my Ibanez AR325QA.

Great presentation (the best on youtube)....but then again, any guitar CC touches sounds amazing....so the tone is also on the fingers.
    Just sayn' it...
