So - I've had a Yamaha Revstar Professional for a while - but I think the more important question was around how good are the standards. In the UK, the Standard are about £900 cheaper than the Professional range, and boast some impressive specs. I bought this Standard, and tried it at a gig over the weekend - GREAT GUITAR

Damn I have just come to take for granted how stupidly good your improvisations and playing is. I Check my head every once in a while and and stay blown away. Just effing gorgeous music and tone and touch
I know, right? Unlike others on YT, who feel the need to 'wank of' play, doing "Look how fast I can Play', John's playing is just musical, melodic, and fiendishly good, while looking effortless.
yamaha made one of those for me a few years ago and they put stainless frets with hemispherical fret ends- even without the fancy frets- NICE guitar!!!! The research development guys are SERIOUS!
I have the green one. Love revstars. A truly new guitar design that actually looks good. It’s a classic
I wished the green came with a tailpiece, but no.
The design (at least the body shape) is the same as the late 1970's era Yamaha SG's which were infinitely superior to anything Gibson could produce. I have a similar era Yamaha SF500 (Super Flighter) which is made in Japan, but unlike the Yamaha SG's it has a bolt on neck, a slab mahogany body & is more strat shaped (lower horn like a SG but upper horn more like a strat). An excellent guitar, mine will just need a refret as it is on it's original frets & I bought it about 35 years ago & the frets were pretty much gone then. The Revstars look a great guitar.
I played a standard a few days ago at a local music store and I'm going back to bring it home. It felt perfect to my hands and body and the tone was fantastic. I tried it with different amps and it sounded great on all of them. My oldest guitar is an acoustic guitar that I bought way back in 79, I have several acoustics, but she's the one I play more. Yamaha makes great instruments at every price range.
I have several Yamaha guitars, two acoustics and a Revstar Standard, I have never played a Yahama instrument i did not like. My first instrument is drums, and I absolutely love Yamaha drums.
That is one thing I really like about my Revstar Standard with Humbuckers (also have a Standard P90) of this new remake is how good it sounds on every amp. P90 as well. And if you like the feel of it in your hands, then get it. It will become a favorite guitar for you imho. Is for me. Biggest complaint from detractors, is they don't like the neck shape. Me, I love it.
Absolutely agree about the finishes, John, and bringing back the flame finishes
I agree. Not only the flame finishes, but the wool brushing finishes as well.
I just received this exact guitar today. I don't see how it's not an interesting looking guitar. I commend them for doing something different. Sunbursts are a dime a dozen.
@@keithferris9574 i agree. I think it looks great.
Sweet clean. When most play with a hacksaw tone, to hear what I just heard, I could hear all day with no listening fatigue.
I can’t abide the hacksaw tone. Good description of the sound, super over it.
Grrrrreat description. Hate the hacksaw.
I'm an Indonesian stuck in Leeds. Indonesia is hot like hell but not dry. It's super humid there.
Yeah, that had me blink twice too. Kuala Lumpur is a hot box sauna and I figure it is basically the same in Indonesia.
Lol indonesia is literally a part of hell
I can also confirm this being my wife is from Jakarta and came to the States for Senior Year of high school and college. We dated two years and married for 10.
We went over in 2019. It’s hot as hell and humid but I can’t wait to go back and visit family and see places in Indonesia again.
Indeed, the problem is when the guitars come from a southern hot and humid climate to a drier and colder one, the wood tends to shrink if there is moisture in it. Not the other way around.
Where ever you are you wanna climate control between 45 -60 percent humidity 24/7
7:06 gorgeous chords! Totally took my imagination away to another land, I can't wait to get to that level of understanding the fretboard, your melodic sense is wonderful
Bro your sense of tone and melody is crazy. Always refreshing just hearing the opening jams of your videos. Keep it up!❤
Cheers Sam! Keeps me interested in making these vids!!
I bought this exact guitar on Easter Weekend! I'm loving it so far! My first single coil or P90. Had a 335 copy forever. Such a beautiful instrument. Very happy.😃
How did you find one!? Order fulfillment is months out.
@@timnorris4458 I’m waiting 12 months+ for mine.
@@timnorris4458 I just received mine after five days. I got lucky that it was in stock
@@timnorris4458 Hey Tim, I'm in Australia and there were a few in stock at my local. 1 swift blue, and 1 black. :D Was glad to pick one up! If you put your name down I don't think you'll be disappointed man. The matte neck, and fretwork is sublime, and the pickups are great. The only tweak i made to it was I lowered the neck pickup a smidge to get a more even volume balance between the two. Sounds great through my AC15. Hope you get one soon! Cheers for the text.
I agree with everything John said about the Revstar line. There is a reason guitarists as top drawer as John Cordy and Mateo Mancuso have Revstars. I have the Pro (Japanese made) with Humbuckers and love it. The price was within $100 Canadian of the California made Fender Strat Pro I first ordered, but I find I play the Yamaha a lot more (tuning stability of the Strat is an issue). I also think the Standard single coil ordered with the Standard Humbucker model makes for a great pair, a genuinely good deal. Even so, I didn't mind paying for the Pro and believe the real comparison is with a Les Paul (equal marks, in my view), but at less than half the price. I do like the black finish offered in their Standard line. There was only one Pro available at the time across the country in the large music store chain, and it was the yellow-red fade finish, and it's grown on me ... a bit more mature than the racing stripe finishes that 19 year olds go for. Natural finishes would be a really nice top off one day on a new line of Revstars.
Beautiful playing. Great sounding guitar!
Love the soundbites you gave us later on in the video, which revealed - much better than in many reviews out there - the tonal differences between the pickup settings, without lots of grit or amp flavor clouding the picture. Fell in love with this guitar right after it was released…but for one thing (and your vid confirms this): it‘s missing a bit of single-coil crispness that I‘d also want it to have. So now I‘m looking more for a not-so-expensive Tele (such as the Sire Larry Carlton T3) to fill the bill, though I‘d love the look and other tonal choices of the Yamaha if it could only be a bit snappier/crispier at will. So thanks for pointing out that Yamaha would be well advised to come out with other pickup options on this model, e.g. with single coils added in. Maybe they‘ll listen?
Great playing, man. I had to swap out the switch just for a three position one and now I’m totally happy. I had troubles with the super switch and the sounds didn’t really do to much for me. Good in theory. But the three position switch works great.
A question if I could. I have this model and the previous model with the 3 switch. Isn’t the 5 way in positions 1, 3 and 5 the same as a three way?
@@davidharding200 yes. It is. My issue was that the switch it self didn’t solidly lock into positions (like it does on a strat) so I wasn’t always confident about quickly switching it. It could’ve just been my particular super switch, or it maybe needed lube. It just worked better for me to have a traditional 3 switch.
@@st1969 I have to say I have the same issue with the 5 way
I bought a Revstar RS620 in 2018. Yamaha's quality is way better than an Epiphone or Squier/Fender in the same price range. This is a well-made instrument!
The RS620 has two humbuckers. They were good, but not great. Last December, I decided to change the Yamaha pickups for a couple of Bare Knuckle's The Mule. Best decision ever made!
These new Revstars are looking even better and I don't have a P90s guitar in my collection! As a rule, I no longer buy guitars until I can try them in person. I hope I can play one in the future.
Sun is rising when i hear this guitar, specially clean sounds, and i´ll get mine very soon! Thanks for your reviews about it, helping very much. And, by the way it would help even more to know about the rig you have used. Some reviewers just play over an amp and every guitar sounds like...you know...
I decided to go full on JNC this past Sunday at church. MY black Revstar P90 Standard made it's debut with the Helix Floor...to me, it sounded great, but that was just through my in-ears. I reviewed the recorded live stream on UA-cam and it did sound pretty good in the full mix as well. I enjoy playing the Revstar, it feels nice, the fretwork on mine is superb, but I must admit, compared to the PRS SE McCarty 594 and the Sire Vintage S7, it's much, much heavier....not uncomfortable, but noticeable. My favorite pickup positions are 2, 3, and 4....full neck gets too dark, enough yo make it difficult to dial out the clipping through the Helix. If you manage to get it usable, then the bridge pickup "screams" a bit too much....not to mention the hum from the p90s is very apparent. Noise gate on input is absolutely necessary for this guitar.
how about the sound and playability compared to a PRS SE?
I agree, love mine but with the Helix it’s very noisy
Have you tried adjusting the height of the pickups to improve the difference between the dark neck and the screening bridge?
@@Domn879 they both certainly have their pros and cons. both play well. The Revstar feels more comfortable.
@@cironicholas526 here's on of the cons of the Revstar...the neck angle is so extreme that the bridge sits WAY above the body...the adjustment of the pickups is actually pretty limited. I have tried tweaking it, but the distance is already so great that whatever adjustments you make have minimal effect.
If they could bring back the SG2000 in any capacity, I'd love that. The Matt Pike riff itch is real.
SBG 1000 was / is a great guitar. I regret trading mine for a Fender “The Strat!”
I got the RS502T Revstar in Bowden Green during lockdown and I actually can't believe how good it is for the price. The P-90's sound amazing! Such great guitars.
Went into a local guitar shop on a whim and played this exact Revstar in that colour with the P90s. Even though it was a Standard model, it felt so well made and professional. For around $1000 CAD, this is amazing value!
I have rss20 and older 502t, two of my absolute favorite guitars. There is something special about those guitars...absolutely agree with you
I picked this guitar up after seeing John playing the Pro. I’m happy to see him giving the Standard some love. In all fairness though, John can make anything sound beautiful. For anyone looking for it in SoCal, there’s a store in Irvine that has a few models in stock.
Great playing and beautiful tone.
Beautiful playing !
Great review! I own the P90 Standard in black, and it is a gorgeous guitar. With that said, John is spot on about the electronics, where some of the middle positions and the boost push/pull sounds weren't that good in my opinion. I wound up swapping out the Yamaha P-90's for a set of Seymour Duncan Hot P-90 Silencers, got rid of the push/pull switch and all electronics, replaced with CTS pots, 3-way blade switch for simplicity and high quality caps. I also lowered the action by filing the nut, which was way too high from the factory and adjusted the neck relief. My Standard now sounds awesome and plays extremely well.
Ive been playing for 30 years and own or owned all the top brands out there. Expensive and inexpensive. This by far is my favorite guitar. Ive owned the Standard for several months now and have a really hard time putting it down to pick up and play my other guitars, Fender Strat, Tele, S2 PRS and a Gibson. I love the focus swith its very useful and underrated but on the Humbucker version, not the P90 . If you like bending, it's the best guitar to bend on.
How would you compare this to a Jazzmaster? That is my favorite, very playable, comfortable, awesomely versatile but heavy (since I have a problem with my back, after 40 or 50 min I have to either sit down and rest or switch guitars). Even with that I can’t put my Jazzmaster but I’m thinking of getting a new guitar for my coming birthday in June.
I just picked up an virtually unplayed used model (still had all the plastic on it. Never removed) for $600 and couldn't be happier. I'm a Carvin/Kiesel guy but these things piqued my interest awhile back and I couldn't say no to the deal. It won't be my number one but I love it. I'm a lefty and never played a Yamaha before. The electronics setup won't be for everyone but I have no complaints about it. At $800 USD new, it's probably the best deal under $1000 at the moment.
Its kind of like they resurrected with a few upgrades, another amazing guitar that was made in Japan, the Fender Esprit / Flame.
The Esprit / Flame was of a similar shape, also had hollow chambers, and sounded and played great.
Good for Yamaha.
Resurrected? Wtf are you in about the first gen was successful enough
@@Job.Well.Done_01big strides from already being world leaders mate
I've played the Standard and it is fantastic, the Revstar Element is also pro level as far as I am concerned, I have gigged mine several times, it's such a solid quality guitar.
Thanks for the detailed review John. I think the Revstar and the PRS SE Dgt are the best guitars out there in that price range. Would be great to see a side by side comparison. Cheers!
Watch the videos side by side and you get the answer. For me it´s the revstar definetely. Clean, she sounds much more like a sunrise ;-), she has that semihollow attack and much more harmonics in the way of a jazz/blues guitar.
I bought the Revstar Standard with P90. A clean Ac 30 Model( Nux 30 with a Joyo Taichi in front gives be a wonderful Low Drive Dumble sound. Guitar plays perfect. Thanks John,
Very Cool, Thankyou. Love Yamaha and hope to get one of these Revstars soon.Cheers
My Sunset Revstar Pro just arrived. Flawless fit and finish. I like the visual design - classy and sleek. I *really* like the 5 position pickup switch and Boost knob, playing into a clean-to-edge-of-breakup amp. When using the Boost, it really helps to adjust the volume and tone knobs to explore tonal range. Don’t just use Boost as “more volume”. I might lower the bridge slightly, but other than that [chef kiss].
I was purchasing an Ibanez AZ one week ago. Then i "discovered" the Revstar Pro and now i'm deciding between the 2. Is the Pro worth the price or standard is enough? (I'm not an Yamaha expert). Thanks!!
@@nickfarrow4788 I think the Standard is definitely “enough” if you’re focused on price/performance at a high level of playability. But given that it is more mass-produced, you should put your hands on it and play it before buying, just to catch any small quality problems that may annoy you.
Mine is a lifetime investment (~30 years) so my view on cost vs value (and prestige) is different. Willing to pay the premium.
@@russellcameronthomas2116 many thanks! I Will do the same: i would have a more reliable Guitar!
@@nickfarrow4788 You will notice that the switch positions do not correspond to the typical “Lead vs Rhythm” tones typical of most guitars. At least on the P90 version. It really pays to explore each switch position with various volume and tone knob settings (in pulling the Focus knob), along with your amp settings, mic position, etc. I use Fractal Audio FM3 so it is easy to explore settings and tones in various amp + speaker models
@@russellcameronthomas2116 thanks for this info, didn't know it. For sure that five position switch it's one of the thing i love of this guitar. To my ears it sounds really unique in many YT demos :)
P90 seduction is setting in on the Bloke. I just can't find my desired tone balance in any other pups. Every amp or modeler is at its best, IME. Doesn't need pedals to compensate. Set git vol low-ish, dial in amp settings. Roll up the volume to desired EQ and push. I especially enjoy my variable tapped set with blend of alnico 2/5 bar mags.
I get your point on the finishes. For me, I love them, but then in my stable, I have 9 Solid Color tops, including my 2 Revstar Standards, 4 Plain top wood grain finishes, and just 1 Flame top. Me, I get tired of Flame all over. I DO wish I could find a mod for the focus switch, to not cut the highs so much. I like the focus on the P90 Revstar, can get Jazz box tones in neck, and great lead tones with the bridge. But, on the Humbucker Revstar Standard, I find it less useful. The OLD Revstar line, Yamaha had all kinds of options like you mention. But, they wanted to simplify that, this time around.
Oh man, a hollow body revstar! With a flamed top!! And a trem!!!
Serious potential!
I have the RSS20, Sunburst - Humbucker - I simply love this guitar!!!!
Just picked up the Gold Pro model on the weekend. Fabulous guitar. Pleased to add it to my collection thus far. It's the first p90 setup i've had. Very versatile.
wow!
Lovely playing Mr.Cody :-)
I do think Yamaha needs to release some new finish options for the Revstar range. I played the first, and only, in store Revstar back in December 2022 & immediately fell for this design. But it was one of those marmite Yellow fade finishes & it wasn't for me. I looked at the Premium, knowing I wanted P-90s so it was Chris Buck Gold, John Cordy Blue, or Black...so I went with a Standard in Hot Merlot as to not be derivative (and knowing how well the standards play). If Yamaha had more, or more interesting colours, they'd've had an extra $1000 cad out of me.
I disgree with the flame top, gets a bit too PRS Blues Lawyer even on the old ones, but some transparent/semi-transparent finishes or perhaps go garish & do sparkle/flake. Personally, I'd just make the Premium have either a nitro finish or a carved top.
I think this will be my next guitar purchase. The black finish though. Its either this, an Epiphone 1959 Les Paul , or a Sire LV7. Leaning heavily towards the Revstar
Agreed on the finishes - I wish there were a few more options and some without racing stripes. I get the cafe racer inspiration, but the stripes aren't for everyone.
Would love to see a Standard humbucker model but with black finish (no stripes), trapeze bridge, and white guard. That trapeze bridge really brings the Revstar together for me aesthetically
The black Standard, the stripes are hard to see. And the P90 models don't have them.
@@justmehere6094 The stripes on the black RSS20 are pretty easy to see imo
I'm leaning on the white RSS20 or getting the black RSS02T, finding a black pickguard for it, and getting P90-sized mini humbuckers for it ala Jeff Schroeder. He put mini-hums in his Revstar and it looks sick.
@@jakestewartmusic mini hums would look good. Personally I like the stripes. But, I can see and understand not liking them.

Sounds lovely! Thanks for giving a thoughtful review and going beyond the easycand ordinary
I have been on the fence about one of the years, but the only thing I am lacking Guitar with P 90s For the price seems like an extremely well make guitar specially with stainless steel frets… beautiful playing, my first time catching you I will be looking for more from you. Well done.
I got a 620 a few years ago and gigged it the very next day, not even a string change (it came with Elixirs). The only mod I did was a bit steel wool on the back of the neck (at that point I knew it's not going anywhere). For me it's a Les Paul sound with a Strat ergonomy, it's my only non-S type guitar. Every time I played it on stage I got comments about well balanced clear sound, especially if it was the 2nd guitar after breaking a string. Another thing, I hardly ever break strings on it, that's a new one for me.
I have the Sunset Burst P90 Standard. Since I bought it I’ve played it on every gig. Fantastic guitar all around. I agree with lowering the pickups. It also looks great in pictures and videos on stage.
OOC, how fare below the strings have you placed them? Just recently added the P90 Standard, had the HB Standard for awhile, and I've been futzing getting them just right.
@@justmehere6094 I lowered them until my slightly distorted channel on my amp felt right. They were a little hot on my normal amp setting so I lowered them just a bit.
In my opinion you played the best riffs and chords on this guitar.
I want one of these because I want to sound like John Cordy... Ha ha ha! Any guitar this guy uses sounds great. As far as the satin neck is concerned, I certainly prefers that to glossy finishes which tend to be more sticky when the fretting hand gets sweaty. And with nitro glossy finishes, it is even worst.
Make a P90 for lefties....burst color preferably.
Wonderful playing
Just sold an acoustic and some other gear. Time to check one of these out 🤠🎸🤠
Honestly you’re crazy if you buy an epiphone over one of these. They are such incredible value.
You criticised the things I like the most!
✅ Lake placid/Pelham /ice blues are my favourite finish -- above any flame or quilted tops...
✅ The hardware - the vol, tone and blade switch (3way?) is my favourite controls config of all - especially with phat, flat top tele knobs! Like a Fano! Or my old (not that "old"!) RG..
The blade switch is 5 way
I really like Lake Placid/Ice Bue too - but these don't really have that vibe going on - these are a bit of a flatter colour?
True your noodling is on a “somewhat” higher level than mine 😊 which HX preset were you using in this video ? Love your recent presets from the folder !
I'm looking forward to the delivery of my standard, coming from Music Mart - Solana Beach, CA.
Great price/performance ratio! 🔥 Not a big fan of gloss finish, but no flametop for me thanks. So many cheap guitars have ruined the whole beauty of flame. I agree that it would be great to see some singlecoil versions or single/hum combos. And f-hole with mastery trem would be super cool to see on future revs.
I love some of your backing tracks. Are any of these tracks available?
John Nathan, I appreciate your reviews, your tasty playing and sounds. This topic is interesting because what is pro level? I have a Saint Blues Mississippi Bluesmaster which I always take on stage as my first back up guitar. Korean made and well made, all mahogany, plays smooth and better than the USA tele I had. I got it used for 375 euro, even fitted with Bare Knuckle Mules. That guitar rings and sings and puts a lot of guitars to shame. Anyway, a good player can make a cheaper guitar sound pro level. Imho for anything above 2000 euro the consumer pays mainly the brandname. I had very expensive guitars in the past, but could I express myself better on them than on my current workhorses from which the most expensive one is about 1400 euro. I can see myself gigging with Revstar Standards. They look cool and sound really good.
I have really learned to like the big neck on my rev
Ive got three Revstars, one is a Standard - the others, 502 and 702 in the previous incarnation.
I agree with much of this review. I much prefer the finish of the earlier range. Re: the comment about the lack of a satin neck, this is easily modded with the judicious use of fine sandpaper.
I love the shape of the neck and the stainless steel frets are like butter.
I concur with the comments about the pickups and don't find a huge difference between the sounds in the various middle positions - and also the push/pull feature.
One thing I have noticed is the angle of the fret board in relation to the body. It's certainly not parallel and the angle between the bridge and the saddle is pronunced (as a consequence?). I've found there may be setting-up issues as a result.
Have you noticed how the old mid-range Revis (like the brick burst) hold their resale price? An used 502 can sell for more than a new sunburst Standard.
I purchased the RSS02T in Hot Merlot, the RSS20 in Vintage White and picked up a THR30 ii. All in it cost just a little bit more than buying the professional series.
Sounds great ! What would you choose between Revstar and DGT SE
How can you think the revstar doesnt look good? Such a sick looking guitar! Better to get the Humbucker one which has the awesome stripes!
This one is taking a few years to catch on. Love the design.
can you say, "Chris Buck"?
I tried and was unable to do so

Love your videos.
On two occasions you described the Revstar neck as chunky or like a Les Paul.
The 50’s LP neck is fat like a bat handle. My Revstar neck is slinky compared to that, and more playable by far for me.
Perhaps you’re referring to the 60’s LP neck profile.
I have the RS720B from the first generation of Revstars, and it’s a very nice guitar. It sounds and plays great, and my only complaint is the weight. It’s the heaviest guitar own by quite a bit, including the two Les Pauls I have. I think the newer gen has weight relief, and I can see why they added that.
The new Revstars have chambered mahogany bodies. They're not heavy at all.
Sounds remarkable in your hands, Mr C. I just can’t get on board with the shape. Would absolutely echo your thoughts around finishes as well.
My guitar hero from indonesia uses yamaha guitar and his the icon of yamaha guitar in here...the band called dewa 19...his band will be in collaboration with joe satriani and phil x as a band project.
They seem like killer guitars for the money. For the record though, there are some $300 guitars out there that are good enough for a Pro these days. I think the requirements for what a pro might use has more to do with the clout of the brand, look of the guitar etc IMO. I bought a Gretsch G2655 with p90's recently new for $300 and it's good enough to gig as a pro imo. bought it mostly for modding but it is just ready to play and sounds awesome out of the box.
Great playing “. I love my 2016 rs502t
I'm getting the sense that this guitar is going to end up being one of the 'classic' guitars that players gravitate towards and seek out 'vintage' aged versions in the years to come. Yamaha is one of the first builders since maybe PRS that has been able to pull this off. Some of Taylor's electrics felt like they might get there but just don't seem to have resonated despite being original and incredibly useful. I started my musical journey playing the saxophone and similarly Yamaha did the same with their professional saxophones, standing side-by-side with Selmer in building instruments that professional players were thrilled to play.
I really like Taylor guitars... the price point of a Taylor electric compared to the Revstar is no comparison... the price of a Taylor could be part of the issue.
i got the standard from sweetwater, black ..its awesome
Your chord and harmony knowledge is amazing! Did you go to uni and study music or is it just self tought from music books etc.
I just bought 1 in black and I'm very happy with it. The bridge seems a little high. Maybe I'm going to try lowering it a bit. The shape looks a bit like a Fano RB6 boutique guitar to me.
Thanks for the info.
my mindset to questions like is a guitar good enough for gigging is that better players than me have used less and made great music using inexpensive guitars. nowadays i just ask if a guitar plays well and if i like the look of it
I got the Standard P90 version some months ago. Last week I took home the "bucker version. The only differences really are in the tonality of the pickups. Perhaps a slightly longer sustain with the P90 mode, but subtle. I considered a Pro model for the bucker version, but the reviews all show no proportional improvement for price, so got a second Srandart. It was a good choice.
Sometimes I have to look down or over at the wall where they both live side by side to know which I am playing since they feel exactly the same.
They are the most comfortable electric guitars to play of any guitar I have handled as a primarily standing-up player but are good seated as well. No lap slide.
Comments on the frets and neck are spot on.
In my opinion there's a big difference between the quality control between the stand vs the pro series. Guitar players often pay too much attention to the extra's a guitar like this has to offer, but it's all about the playability in my opinion. However if you're a bedroom guitarist who doesn't play all too often you won't tell much of difference. I guess it's called pro for a reason.
@@cuckmasterflex9106hey guys. Im really torn right now between revstar p90s standard and gretsch g5655t? The gretsch is 100 more expensive with no gig bag. But goooddd. It looks so beautiful. What you think?
@@Benson.BereTV there's no best decision between the two and no way to say which guitar is more suited for you. You can only make the best decision by playing and hearing them both. Both are good value for money guitars. You can always consider resell value and looks in your final decision.
I have a sterling music man guitar...its a great guitar but i think revstar pro is next. Its an amazing guitar.
The only elements for "pro" level (a particularly lame term with regard to electric guitars) would be that the pickups are not microphonic, that the tuners are good enough that you are not having to retune all the time & I suppose you are happy with playability (which is personal & money thrown at it won't really solve that "problem"). What it is really is about is is a guitar out of the box with minimal tweaking going to be good enough to go on stage & be played? Cheaper guitars will in general have pickups that could be microphonic (so changing them out would be the better option). The hardware is going to be lower quality (tuners, bridges etc) so another area where they can be upgraded. Then there is the playability, the frets & the neck - which can be problem & may well need some TLC by a player or a tech. It really is the setup that makes a guitar good, the pickups are really where the sound is produced (tone woods are not a thing in electric guitars). the other thing is if a musician relies on gigging for money or even does it at weekends or at night & has a job they may well want a guitar that will already have the issues addressed. the problem of course is all guitars will develop problems. I mean Gibson's will eventually have a broken headstock, so not the most reliable guitar to play live.
I really love the ‘hot Merlot’ color for this thing. I’ve thought about getting one since I don’t have anything gibson-ish.
But all my gigs are acoustic so can’t really justify buying another electric 🤷
Id probably put a humbucker in the bridge and have a coil split for maximal tonal options 👍🏻🎸🖖🏻
I'd rather have a 2nd guitar with humbuckers, I love that bridge P90! I feel like that pickup alone can achieve so many great tones.
Stupefying intro! Woof!
It just doesn’t sound the same when I play it😂 I could listen to you noodle all day brother.
I love to see Revstar with natural back and neck, more appealing to me.
I've tried an old revstar with Double Humbucker with flame tops, it feels nice. Does the new Revstar feel diffrent or quite the same?
The sunburst is great end clever.
Got a black Standard w/humbuckers. (Was no point in getting P90s, as nothing beats my Special with those Wolfetones in it). The Revstar is amazing, but the neck is getting a reshape next week. Never had to do that in 30 years, and normally the guitar would have just moved on, but it's so good that I want to keep it. Just need those neck shoulders gone.
I can’t choose color. I usually go white. So I have only white guitars. And of course I’m loving the white Revstar. But the black has something special too. Such a hard life. 😂
Yes please a lefthanded model with P-90s
this guitar, albeit with hbs, is on my shopping list
I agree John - they need some sunbursts or slightly flame-topped options on the tops. A large expanse of wood there with not much going on. I personally like a two-pickup guitar to have two Volume Knobs also, so it needed to be a 3-knobber.
Great Demo! Tremolo would be nice, also not a fan of what the Focus switch does, and hopefully, they keep all the other things they nailed in future versions.
G’day mate!
You know what I’d like to see? Better colour choices for lefty’s 😣
2 colours 😣
WTAF
C’mon Yamaha,give us a break
Great channel by the way!
👍🇦🇺
Of course it's great it's a Yamaha guitar everything Yamaha makes is awesome
The top of my sunset burst standard is flamed (with weird mineral streaks) - guess I got lucky 😊
I used to own a Revstar belonging to the series before the revamp. I sold it ‘cause it felt like it wasn’t as solid of an instruments as my more expensive ones - Gibson, Fender, PRS USA made stuff. How close does the Standard come in terms of feel to, like, your K-Lines?
Beautiful guitar (and playing as always)! The other one that has caught my eye is the new P90 Gretsch Electromatic With Bigsby in Amythyst, but wondering about the tuning stability.
I have an electromatic jet and the tuning was awful out of the box, plus the electronics were bad. Switch failed. Pots had a horrible taper. The bones of the guitar were great, though. Anyway it had a bad tuner so I replaced those, the nut wasn't filed right so I had to fix that, replaced the switch and all the pots, put a roller bridge on it, added a BriggsFix to the trem and replaced its spring. Also had to dress the frets. I've never had to do that much work to a guitar to get it right, but I can't really say I'm unhappy with it because now it's great. Just be warned that there are some crap parts on the thing and the QC may not be all that great. Maybe you'll get lucky though.
I would like a Sparkle or Metal flake Red finish. It would even fit in with the Cafe Racer theme. OOC what height did you settle on, for the P90s?
Yamaha Revstars are awesome.
I like the the sounds, all 5 positions, but not the Focus mode. I wonder if the ‘Dry Switch” could be fitted later, if it was possible to get one even
no one should be surprised that Yamaha makes great musical instruments, as well as motorcycles, quads, side by sides, even engines for Ford to put in cars. Yamaha actually had engines in Formula One cars.
Yamaha is the largest manufacturer of musical instruments in the world
