I had been one of the 8 members of the university sailing yacht team in 1959-1960 in Shanghai. Years go by so fast and I am now 84 years old. I retired from the post of ship surveyor. I am really glad to see you make the crossing with your tremendous strength and courage. I envy you both. Wish you all the best!
Thanks so much for sharing your videos and family. I am 64 and may never be able to see as much of the wonderful world but through your videos I feel so very fortunate. God bless y’all and that beautiful beautiful Vera
4 MINUTES IN TO VIDEO, THAT WAS SOME OF THE SMARTEST TALK I HAVE BEEN PRIVILEGED TO HEAR IN 2021 , THANK YOU. GOD BLESS ALL , BE SAFE. I AM NOT YELLING, JUST SEEING BETTER, SORRY CAPPS
It's fun to watch your little family as you cruise the oceans. You have probably figured out that the biggest attraction is no longer the sailing but it's Vera! A wonderful little child with an incredible disposition. I am also most impressed by Johann's attention to detail.
Its probably been said already but it is really wonderful to watch Vera, she takes to sailing so well. Its also nice to see that she/family can stay in touch with the family at home. Also, having a 'fleet' nearby can give comfort to all in this crossing.
I have a comment or two around the Orca situation you describe in your video. As background, I am a retired professional fisheries biologist and although my main expertise was salmonid species, I feel somewhat qualified to provide input with respect to the Orca and bluefin tuna situation. No doubt it comes as no surprise that many of the world's fish stocks are in serious decline and the bluefin tuna is no exception. These large, pelagic fish are prized by the Japanese and command high prices in their fish markets; one fish in particular sold for $3M in 2019. All of the various bluefin tuna stocks are listed as threatened, endangered or extinct, the latter being the Black Sea stock. Naturally, the Orca prey on bluefin tuna and the lack of these species implies that the Orca will need to rely on other species of animals for food (e.g. whales, seals, sharks, etc.). However, it is known that some populations of Orcas prey on specific animals and are not as opportunistic as one might think. Given that Orcas are highly intelligent animals, it goes without saying that they view boats as competition AND that the noise pollution from boats (e.g. sonar, engines, etc.) are also irritants in their undersea world. In summary, I hold the agencies responsible for fisheries management for the decline of fish stocks and demand that they stop thinking about commercial interests and revenue and start thinking about sustainable fisheries. In my view, they are doing a terrible job and need to be held in account and in contempt! Shame on them.
You can imagine how upsetting it is Living in America having endured for years of previous leader as he squashed scores if not hundreds of environmental rules. Under the current president, Biden, the other party it's doing its best to block his efforts to do some good for the environment and sustainability. Kudos on your great work career. I know you wish you could have done more. Cheers.
You make such beautiful videos. And the music you pair them with makes them almost meditational. I love watching and look forward to them each week. Thank you.
The Trvennec lighthouse has been restored for several years by a group of sponsors from Audierne and the surrounding area. It is to be preserved as a memorial. Verahas already been traied as a navigator and has brought you safely to Spain. These were great pictures of you again. Thank you for that. Olli
Thank you for the pleasure of watching such a lovely family. You're the first vloggers I've seen travel in a group. I think it's brilliant and wonder why many more don't do so. I also like the way you completely enclose your cockpit. Beautiful video !
Glad to see you both gather the strength/courage to make the crossing. You've both been through more demanding passages, but with Vera, I can imagine it takes on a new set of concerns. Thanks for sharing. Fair Winds and Safe travels.
Lovely video ....... 'was sailing those same waters over 60 years ago and your sailing brings it all back to me Thanks !!! 'am enjoying every minute of your voyage!
I’m so impressed with Vera, she has become a beautiful little girl, it’s easy to see why with all the love and attention you both share with her, she is truly blessed 🤗
Hello again. I resonate with your soft storytelling ... easy listening. Little Vera reveals how children thrive with both parents so close by 24/7. They don't 'need' playdates so young ... just mum and dad sharing a family adventure :) As parents you are blessed. Love watching RAN glide towards her next arrival. Hope the Orcas left you in peace. As others mentioned ... sounds like their world has changed for them. We must take note. Fair winds dear ones.
Wonderful video... what a character darling Vera is... love the long diatribe into the phone and of course using the binoculars. I admire your preparation and attention to detail. Sailing would not be my choice, but it is so interesting to watch your videos. Safe passage!
What a great episode! The waiting, the suspense of the orca attacks and finally the departure of the Scandinavian fleet. And lovely footage. Vera on the phone with her granny. What else could one want?
The weather around Camaret-Sur-Mer looked like lots of tropical storm leftovers, one right after another -- and one more sunny squall on the shoulder to question the "weather window". Bravo to the "Scandinavian Fleet" for braving the Bay of Biscay and the orcas! Majestic footage. Why is it Vera never seems to get seasick? Hang in there, Malin. The last time I got seasick on the Wild Atlantic, in a waning gale putting out, sauteed beef liver and onions never tasted so good (only meal that would stay down). Blessings, S/V Windwalker
Another enjoyable sailing adventure with your charming family. The Orca's on the other hand sound very scary, like something from a sea going horror film like RAWS. Stay groovy and stay safe.
Another splendidly entertaining video. The care you two take in planning, up keep, cinematography and Vera is nothing short of meticulous. Thank you for another wonderful few days into your adventure. ⛵👏
Another awesome video with some great sailing ....... Orcas you can do with out ...... lovely to see Vera growing up onboard and the sea not appearing to effect her at all, truly enjoying following your journey from here in NZ 🇳🇿🤗
Been watching many sailing videos, been following Sailing Zatara since their children are still very young till now and been following a few other young couples and families too like Uma, now I'm here enjoying your video. Keep going , many people like me who cant sail but enjoying watching others do it. Can't wait to see Vera growing up and become a little sailor with you guys.🥰
the night shot of Orion at 12:41 was stunning, Vera is simply the cutest little girl and i'm tracking you everyday on Marine Traffic and know you are underway from Porto, miss the Orcas and stay safe XxX
I’m not sure if if I should put this into words but you’re daughter shows amazingly sophisticated communication skills and I feel most impressed just watching your videos gives me faith in life thanks for giving me and I have to believe many others such beautiful insights into your travels 🤪
Interesting to hear of the Orca issues off the Spanish/Portuguese Coast. While sailing off the San Juan Islands in the Pacific Northwest, a few years ago, we were surrounded, for quite some time, by a pod of Orcas. They made numerous runs at us broadside, coming extremely close, but never making contact. Our (towed) dingy seemed to amuse them, as they batted it repeatedly with their dorsal fins, nearly sinking it...and then...they were gone. Hope your passage was Orca free!
I use Sturgeron and wear the wrist bands. I did a passage Les Sable to Majorca with some heavy seas and never felt nauseous. Its worth trying that combination, its never let me down. Safe passage guys.
Safe travels love the off shore sailing adventures Ran II going to do awesome you have outfit her perfectly for the job! Also great to be buddy boating with others.
Lots of Orca's up here near Seattle in the San Juan Islands area but didn't realize there were so many pods near Spain, that's crazy with them attacking vessels. Great video!
@RAN Sailing Malin, I know how miserable sea sickness can be. Here’s a remedy I learned in New Zealand called the Pahia Bomb. It is 10 mg of Phenergan and 100 mg of caffeine (like No Doze) every eight hours. If the Phenergan does not make you sleepy, just skip the caffeine (I skip it). This works great! Best of luck to you.
Such clear videos, you must have great quality cameras. The best family videos on UA-cam. We have followed you since the beginning. You sailing skills an boats selection are the result of your extensive sailing experience. The latest 'crew member" warms our heart, she is such an expressive little person. I will say a prayer that hopefully will keep the killer whales away.
Great video as ever, thank you. I can empathise with your momentary concern on hearing dolphins break surface at night, fearing Orcas! Experienced the same a month ago off the Portugeese coast after a night of hearing attacks on yachts over the VHF. I was surprised how spooked I had become but the evidence of damage to yachts is tangible and the attacks appear quite aggressive. The underside of our vessels do resemble Whales I suppose? I was mighty glad they were dolphins!
I really sympathise with your seasickness. Last time I did Santander to Poole I was sick for 3 days. Its so debilitating. And then just like that it stopped and I went from sleeping next to a bucket to actually enjoying the sail! Loving your vidoes guys!
Thanks for posting and sharing. So sorry to hear that Malin was having some trouble with sea sickness. I think Vera must have gotten used to the boats motion when Malin was pregnant with her. Nothing much seems to phase her.
Oh my, I need to learn to speak Vera. That conversation with Grandma sounded very important.

That little lady steals the show - what a beautifully funny little thing she is. Love you guys too of course 😊
Thanks guys! Each week i see Vera and think “what a sweetie” definitely a credit to mum and dad!
Shes going to have a lot to say to the world very soon...😂😂
Mum and dad are going to need some red hot editing skills 🤣
Love Veras talking on the phone so expressive wishing you all the best. Love

Watching the sailing is great! but I enjoy watching little Vera growing up more. What a delightful child. I am truly envious of your lifestyle.

I don't know what to say, but I know the comments help with the UA-cam algorithm, so here you go. Love the videos.
Thanks a lot, we really appreciate it 🤗
You make such beautiful videos. And the music you pair them with makes them almost meditational. I love watching and look forward to them each week. Thank you.
Vera talking to grandma! So adorable! I hadn't heard of the Orcas being so forceful. Thats terrifying and yet, understandable too.

Beautiful sailing journey, Vera is such a beautiful child and I loved how excited she was when she was speaking with her grandma 🥰⛵️⛵️⛵️💕💕

I'm thankful that you are not experiencing seasickness so much. I love the background music is so nice and not overwhelming. Beautiful; and peaceful💙
It's so rewarding to set sail with such a well prepared boat. Great to share the passage with other boats nearby.
I’m so impressed with Vera, she has become a beautiful little girl, it’s easy to see why with all the love and attention you both share with her, she is truly blessed 🤗
Vera is such a smart girl. So impressed with her growth as I watch this channel.
I can't help thinking she's the most intelligent being on the planet. If only we could understand her language we might learn a thing or two??
She’s a little start, isn’t she! Slowly becoming the Vera show featuring RAN sailing! 😂
I've never sailed but I imagine it must be very comforting to have other boats close by.
Glad you are feeling ok on your first day out
LOL THE BABY LOVES TALKING TO GRANDMA !! 😋
A beautiful family with interesting stories intelligently told. Thank you
Retitle this episode, "Viking Invasion"!🤣 thanks for filming,!
Another great video! You manage to convey the day-to-day life onboard, but the point of view changes so that it never becomes boring! Fair winds!

What an epic sailor that kid is going to be.

You are in our thoughts and prayers all along the way. Hoping for good sailing weather, calm tummies, and no orcas. Take care, God bless, Gloria
Great video - shows that good planning and preparation really helps
THANKS for Sharing your World
What a great episode! The waiting, the suspense of the orca attacks and finally the departure of the Scandinavian fleet. And lovely footage. Vera on the phone with her granny. What else could one want?
Glad you liked it 🤗
We like when you talk about the tech side of sailing while you are sailing . Thank you
I've heard that towing a dingy (without the outboard) or a big bouy or fender can keep them occupied so they don't attack the rudder.
So can swimming………😊
@@geoffhayday6003 you forgot the fact that first you rub down with fish 🛢 oil
Depth charges would definitely get their attention ! Taking the piss before I get slaughtered. I'm an animal lover and work with them professionally .
Wow, lovely sailing, hope you get over the sea sickness soon Malin. It's great to see Vera taking to the voyage with ease. Great vlog, thanks. :-)
It was so nice meeting you guys. Glad the Stugeron helped (a little bit ^^). Hope to cross your path soon again :)
I feel bad that you can't always rest, but I do love your great adventures. Johan, Malin, and Vera....😊

Fair, moderate winds and calm seas, guys! And no orcas on your course!
Oh my, that Vera,...she sounded like my wife when she's mad at me! We enjoy your videos so much, thank you for sharing. Safe travels.
Great to see you all back at sea. It looks as though Vera has adapted and escaped ever being seasick

"...Three Swedish boats and a Norwegian..." I just had this vision of three sailboats and a cruise liner when Malin said that. ⛵️⛵️⛵️ 🛳️ 🤣
OH OH that last comment has me a little worried...but I have confidence in you both.
Love your spirit, never stop!

Have a very safe journey...

Life at an angle, yay!
Great video as usual. It's to bad Malin that you get sick so often. It must be difficult preparing for a passage while knowing it may make you sick.
Safe travels love the off shore sailing adventures Ran II going to do awesome you have outfit her perfectly for the job! Also great to be buddy boating with others.
I can see in the future (aka instagram) and I know RAN ⛵ will arrive in Spain safe and sound 👌

Wonder how much Mormor understood of Veras happy summary 👍🙌🇸🇪🖖
My mom has told stories of the storm at Bay of Biscay of her transits with the cargo ship M/S Vingaland in the 1970ies. Scary things.
