My favorite cover is the Sal Buscema one, that house ad is so unique. Also Sal is such a legend, and really underrated. His brother, Big John, gets most of the praise, but I feel like Sal's art is at the same level.

I was lucky enough to have my family own a comic shop when ROM was released, so I read the series from #1.
Yeah, I'm old. Thrilled to be able to read these again.

My biggest takeaway is that Sal Buscema was the artist for most of this. He was such a workhorse for Marvel for decades, which is mostly unheard of nowadays. He was never the flashiest artist but just a good, solid storyteller. I’m getting this and am looking forward to reading it.

Oh my God 😍😍😍😍 I love how they put the issue 1 cover on the front of the omnibus and the pin up on the back now when I get my George Perez cover I won't feel lefted out by not getting the standard cover because it's already there. I love this so much. Now I can't wait for ROMnibus volume 2 in June.💯💯💯🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽 David Gabriel and The gang really did a wonderful job with the ROMnibus.❤️❤️❤️❤️

2000s kid here, never read Rom but was totally hyped when it was announced. My First comic ever was probably a Donald Duck/Mickey Mouse Book, since those are super popular for kids in Germany and I had a huge collection as a kid.
The first comic book that I myself bought was The Walking Dead.
And the comic that jumpstarted my obsession with collecting and doomed my wallet for all of eternity was actually Marvels Civil War 5 years ago.
Fav Cover would be that sweet George Perez.

I was an X-men fan when Rom had launched, and had gotten #1 since I was a science fiction fan, but once the crossovers happened I was hooked! For me it’s the first issue cover, or the Perez! Thanks for all you do Omar!!!

Hi Omar! What an exciting release! The first Rom I bought was Rom 24. I’m a HUGE fan of the New Warriors, and Rich Rider Nova in particular, so I picked that issue up to finish his back story. All the covers are good lookin, but that Perez one is very special.

I just got my copy today and am looking through it as I watch your video. I have been waiting so long for a Rom collection and thought it would never happen. It’s a great collection, I have to say. Very happy. I, too, went with the DM Buscema house ad cover. It was that ad that got me to check out the series back in the day. It just has so much energy and is just a small example of how dynamic Sal’s art is. And I have to give a shout out to Cheap Graphic Novels for allowing me to switch to this cover after ordering the X-men cover. At the time I went to preorder the X-men cover was the only one available. I was not going to miss out on this Omni so I ordered what they had. When the house ad cover became available again I emailed to see if I could switch and they were nice enough to do so.

The nostalgia for this book... My brother owned a comic shop and under the guise of "work", meaning sorting comics for him and his friend, i was able to read this series from the start. To be honest i don't remember much but everytime i see a cover or page it just brings me back and i get snapshots of memories. I get the same snapshots with Sandman and McFarlane's spiderman and Dreadstar. Yup Vanth Dreadstar was a a favorite hero too.

Fun overview! I of course loved the mentions of Nova, Turbo and the New Warriors. My first Rom issue was Rom issue 24 to get the conclusion of Nova's 1970s stories. It was amazing how crucial that issue is to set up the first issue of the New Warriors.

All these covers look really great. This looks like a really great story. The first comic I was technically three! It was a Panini UK Spider-Man collection, containing issues 32 and 33 of JMS' Spider-Man run, with Spider-Man's first fight against Morlun, and The Amazing Spider-Man issue 6 by Lee and Ditko, containing the first appearance of the Lizard.

Love that Buscema cover, 100% agree with your choice, it's so different!
First comic for me was 'Amazing Spider-Man #597", which feels so random, but god I loved that stuff when I first dived in. Dark Reign will always hold a special place in my heart because I read so many books taking place within that era.
Never read ROM! Will I ever get round to it, who knows, currently working my way through Morrison's Animal Man, and then onto John's Flash!

I've never read Rom but I'm excited to fix that. The first comic I ever bought myself was Legion of Super-Heroes 290, part 1 of The Great Darkness Saga, brand new right off the spinner rack. Pretty great start to a lifelong love of comics. My little kid brain thought it was really cool that Superboy was hanging out with all of these other superheroes that I'd never seen before.

Hello Omar. Loved the video. My first comic book was The Walking Dead, trade paperback volume 1. I loved the show and wanted to find out more. I got it as a gift for my 14th birthday. When ROM first came out, I wasn't a fan. But I was(and still am) a huge Ditko fan. I was basically tracking down all of Ditko's ROM issues. But I never actually read them. Years later I got married and sold most of my comics to buy a house. Now that I'm older and the house is paid off, I've started collecting omnibuses that collect all the comics that I use to own and ROM is one of the series that I've always wanted to read.

I love all 4 of the covers, but I am a Perez fan boy since his Creatures on the Loose Manwolf issues. Your Rom and Micronauts announcement were the two I had been waiting years for. I sold my floppy collection 8 years ago and you are the reason I now have 200+ epics and 100+ omnibus's? Omnibi?

Hi Omar! I don’t recall reading any ROM issues, but I definitely remember when they were coming out. My earliest comics were late 70s-early 80s Incredible Hulk, when Mantlo and Buscema were doing it. The first one I remember reading was #248 where he fights the Gardener. I still think that cover is awesome and Sal Buscema is still my favorite Hulk artist. After seeing your review, I know I need to check out his ROM run now, too!
My dad used to bring me those Hulk comics one or two at a time whenever he stopped at a gas station or deli on his way home from work (this was back when those type of stores had comics on spinner racks). I don’t think he realized at the time that he was starting me off on a lifetime of collecting comics and appreciating art and decades of enjoyment. RIP, Pop! ❤️ I still have those issues!

Super excited for this one, will be picking it up next week (has to be original cover for me, but they are all so good). I read Rom from issue 1 for about a year when it first came out, so am delighted I can deep dive now and read the entire saga. Bill Mantlo was a genius at creating worlds out of licenced material (the superb Micronauts as well of course), and a very under rated writer. We rarely get comics as good as this now, and Marvel couldn't help but strike gold with their licenced material often during these times (Battlestar Galactica, Conan, Logans Run, 2001 with Kirby, and many others).
Amazing really that Marvel literally created Rom, Micronauts AND Transformers of course. They would all be long forgotten bits of toys otherwise by now. One last point, as with Micronauts, Marvel must still own a lot of the created characters in Rom I'd have thought, so yes it will be interesting to read Chris' intro to this book on it all. An essential purchase!

My first comics were Free Comic Book Day extras that my great aunt used to bring me, but which ones god only knows.
Psyched to see this finally released - so much cosmic Marvel is built on ROM, but they have to dance around it in the comics themselves, which gave the series so much mystique for me. Like, when the Spaceknights start showing up in the DnA era, it absolutely piques your interest.

I’ve never actually read a ROM comic but growing up I remember his name thrown around here and there and was always into knights so super interested to jump into this. My first comic I personally bought and read wasn’t until Ultimate X-men 1 but my uncle grew up collecting and would always give me and my cousins comics when we were little, a lot of Spider-man stuff. The Frank Miller X-men Direct Market cover is my favorite.

Thanks for doing such an awesome giveaway on this, Omar. This is one of the many reasons why we love you - you are a generous soul who pays it forward and brings warmth and positivity to the community.
My first ROM issue was # 32. Picked it up as a back issue at the time. I was fascinated by Rogue’s journey of redemption, and those handful of issues of ROM and Dazzler (along with UXM 158) that were in between Avengers Annual 10 and UXM 171, were essential reading for learning about Rogue the villain. I still consider ROM 31 & 32 to be two of the most underrated and vital stories for her character development, along with UXM 246 & 247.
I really thought I wouldn’t like any cover other than the standard edition, but seeing that Miller X-Men DM cover has changed my mind. That looks gorgeous. I’ve always loved that Buscema house ad, but it feels weird as a cover!
Thanks for this overview and all that you do!

Great overview Omar! I can’t remember my very first comic book but when I was a kid (I’m in my 30s now) my dad used to take me to the corner store where we live in NYC and they sold magazines and comics and I would always pick up the simpsons or Cartoon Network comics that they would carry because they didn’t really get superhero comics for some reason. Used to love when Halloween came around and they would have the treehouse of horror single issues. So much that I brought both treehouse of horror omnibuses the last 2 years. Lost my dad when Covid happened and picking up comics take me back to those times and your channel has helped a lot with putting me on to new books. Thanks for everything you do Omar!

My first comic was Spider-Man! One of the random issues of Maximum Carnage! Wasn’t exactly the best stepping off point. Then I got some Spectacular Spider-Man issues from the 80’s

My first issue of ROM was issue 2, and my favorite cover is the Issue 1 cover. The ROM toy was my favorite toy of my childhood. I still have it.

ROM 1 was the first of this series I read. I’ve been wishing and hoping for this set since omnis have been a thing!

Hey Omar, thanks for this overview, been looking forward to this omni - My first ROM comic was actually from the 2016 IDW series #1 Earthfall, which led me to start reading the original Marvel series

That Frank Miller X-men DM cover is absolutely gorgeous! I have never read any ROM issues as of yet, but i have been planning on getting this book after the glowing recommendations from many people.
The first ever comic i bought was the Infinity Gauntlet trade paperback, i still haven't read it 😅 i have been searching for the trilogy of omnis and i finally have them all. So I'm excited to dig into them at some point. The backlog is crazy

Very glad to see this wave of previously locked away Marvel content getting the deluxe treatment.
As for my first, and so far only, Rom comic, i picked up issue #42 about 15 years ago. It was in the quarter bin of my old local comic joint along with other titles I knew little about at the time, Micronauts for example.
Might as well cover the other contest question. My first ever comic was Web of Spider-Man Annual #9. Pretty lame issue, but It's still in my collection.

Excellent overview! I've never read ROM, but my first ever comic was a reprint of Amazing Spider-Man #41.

Even though ROM was a staple of news stands when I was a kid, ROM remained, much like Shang-Chi, a huge blind spot in my reading. I was more into Micronauts and GI Joe. The first comic book I ever read was probably a Richie Rich, but the first comic I ever read that led me to reading/collecting comics all my life was NEW TEEN TITANS #1. Bought it off the rack and I've been reading and buying comics ever since.

January 19th is my 47th birthday! When I was 10, I received Batman 408 as my first comic. Here I am almost 37 years later, still reading, collecting and loving your channel!

Thanks for the review, Omar! I've never read ROM but remember seeing him a lot growing up. I'm a 90s kid and started with Darkhawk, Spidey, and Hulk.

I collected and read these mostly from issue one as they came out. BUT I did stop reading/collecting comics for a time so I didn't finish the series up until decades later when I reaquired all the single issues. Always loved ROM and now I will happily double dip to get it in OHCs.

My first ROM comic I bought was #17 with the X-Men, so would love to have that issue on the direct cover of the omnibus. Thanks for sharing the love and giving your subscribers a chance to win one! I actually had the ROM toy as a kid, lol.

I took the Sal Buscema cover. That page was an instant classic since it was used to advertise the series.

My first comic book was the first issue in 1979 of the weekly Donald Duck magazine that's published in Sweden. It's called "Kalle Anka & C:o" (roughly "Donald Duck & Friends") and has been published for 75+ years! My parents got me a subscription when I was about five years old. (Yeah, I'm old!)
