Filming on this started in 2011. A quick google search shows the castle, and this couple, are still going strong in 2023.

Compared to some of the other clients Simon has tried to help, this couple are aggressive, beautifully polite, open to suggestions, and just plain charming. Wish them the best!

The fact that hidden away in the castles records was a handwritten original Robert Burns poem is just astonishing. And I love the couple, this Laird didn't grow up with a huge privilege besides his title and it allows for them to understand that they are trying to save his family home, his family history and make something for his children makes them amazing

I'm just beginning watching and I can think of a thousand ideas...Air B&Bs ...shooting parities, holiday parities and balls...Willam Wallace re-enactments...and depending on other assests I haven't seen yet...more ideas...and the wife seems bright...as a historical builiding you would think that there are grants to help preserve it...and they have a self catering part of the castle...BTW love seeing Simon in his Pjs...

I have to be honest there are some wonderful things to the castle and the estate...30 miles from Glasgow!!! And he is the 28th Laird...how about a holiday with the 28tth Laird...I love the wife...I think she is brilliant...however their dinner is lacking...she couldn't get any help??? seriously she couldn't have gotten help ...In the snowy season...they couldn'thave done a winter wonder land dinner with the Laird???? and had something like we do in America for Thanksgiving...Turkey, and a ton of sides...i wish them luck..

They should have shown the poem after dinner, in the library on a red velvet support like a treasure that it is and like the late Queen used to show her treasures to guests. That would have given panache to the presentation.. It is sad they didn't bring it a real historian to create a real museum. The historic connection is tremendous.

The family should give out colored metals for first place, second, and third for everyone else who participated. We loved to go to the walks in Germany at the end we would get a bronze medal for finishing. The metal would have the town's name and a raised picture of a famous image of where the run was held. We went all the time to collect the metals. It was Great fun.

This was back in 2011 they have gone from strength to strength and I am pleased for them. As a Bibliophile the Library was fantastic as was the Burns discovery.
I am still in favour of dissolving the Union as I am an English Constitutionalist and would like to see us have our own English Parliament and let the Scots and Welsh have their own autonomy. Scotland would end up Like the Republic of Ireland they would be ruled by EU tyrants and would be worse off in the long term.

I'm not a fan of this 'commercial capital breathes new life into sickly landed estate' genre of docos.
Money has always married the aristocracy for status and breeding it genuinely lacked.
I don't think its right to paint to paint businesspeople as the capable saviors of hapless feudals.
Even if they pay for the docos.
A problem with the popularization of history, is capital's ownership of mass media.
The aristocracy has a better hold over universities, and can keep its messages free from 'sponsors advertisements', and ideological overtures to the monied interests.

I'm fairly certain none of us knows her family history. The possibilities are endless. For all we know, her family could have been from the Brahman class, or even from further up the food chain from the Princely class. In which case, the British would have been cleaning their toilets. Colonizer... FFFTTTT. That sounds like Untouchable unhappiness/reverse-bigotry.
And having done Simon's Y-DNA analysis many years ago I know his Y-DNA is not Craufurd or Crawford. He is a Houieson-Craufurd with MoodyMoodie Y-DNA. His paternal line surname changed about 200 years ago with a marriage to the female heir of the Craufurd family. The inheritance was litigated in probate and that is the way it ended up by court decree changing from Moody to Houieson-Craufurd to maintain a connection to the traditional name of the estate. I suppose he could have a few strands of autosomal Craufurd DNA through the female heiress, but that was 5-6 generations ago, so it could be quite diluted by now.
Footnote: I haven't yet watched the entire video, but Simon has an older brother and sister.

It is the wheel of time. Indians own more property in Britain now than the native Brits apparently.
