Compared to some of the other clients Simon has tried to help, this couple are aggressive, beautifully polite, open to suggestions, and just plain charming. Wish them the best!
Despite this Documentary a few Years old very interesting, and the Couple very Sympathetic…lovely to see 10 Years later that they have made the Castle a success, lovely I wish the Family the best and lots of success for 2023
I teared up watching this one! Seeing this absolutely beautiful family work so hard to save their home with such graciousness and determination was the pick me up I needed!
The fact that hidden away in the castles records was a handwritten original Robert Burns poem is just astonishing. And I love the couple, this Laird didn't grow up with a huge privilege besides his title and it allows for them to understand that they are trying to save his family home, his family history and make something for his children makes them amazing
I mean if someone said they were a direct decedent of William Wallice while speaking with the Scottish accent that alone would blow me away. My jaw would drop. How cool is that????!!!
I really enjoyed watching this! Especially the mud run! Seeing how much they all came together and enjoyed themselves was so refreshing! Best wishes to the Craufurd family and their beautiful castle!
I'm just beginning watching and I can think of a thousand ideas...Air B&Bs ...shooting parities, holiday parities and balls...Willam Wallace re-enactments...and depending on other assests I haven't seen yet...more ideas...and the wife seems bright...as a historical builiding you would think that there are grants to help preserve it...and they have a self catering part of the castle...BTW love seeing Simon in his Pjs...
And then Simon Craufurd leads a tour of the carpeted insides whilst filthy, unlike his audience who had the clue to, first, hose down and tidy up. 43:33
I have to be honest there are some wonderful things to the castle and the estate...30 miles from Glasgow!!! And he is the 28th Laird...how about a holiday with the 28tth Laird...I love the wife...I think she is brilliant...however their dinner is lacking...she couldn't get any help??? seriously she couldn't have gotten help ...In the snowy season...they couldn'thave done a winter wonder land dinner with the Laird???? and had something like we do in America for Thanksgiving...Turkey, and a ton of sides...i wish them luck..
They should have shown the poem after dinner, in the library on a red velvet support like a treasure that it is and like the late Queen used to show her treasures to guests. That would have given panache to the presentation.. It is sad they didn't bring it a real historian to create a real museum. The historic connection is tremendous.
The family should give out colored metals for first place, second, and third for everyone else who participated. We loved to go to the walks in Germany at the end we would get a bronze medal for finishing. The metal would have the town's name and a raised picture of a famous image of where the run was held. We went all the time to collect the metals. It was Great fun.
They got lucky, ie August 2023 they found a Constable painting worth £2million on their estate. This lovely couple deserves it, unlike some of the entitled nitwits on the show (eg F* Fulfords)
This was back in 2011 they have gone from strength to strength and I am pleased for them. As a Bibliophile the Library was fantastic as was the Burns discovery. I am still in favour of dissolving the Union as I am an English Constitutionalist and would like to see us have our own English Parliament and let the Scots and Welsh have their own autonomy. Scotland would end up Like the Republic of Ireland they would be ruled by EU tyrants and would be worse off in the long term.
Build another home on the property. Rent it out for WEDDINGS special events. I am the Great Grandaughter of William the Conqueror King Henry II III edward I II and III Robert the Bruce Malcolm III... to name a few. I wish I had a castle you guys are blessed.
It was a fad about the time the door was refinished. Not the choice for my current home, but whatever floats their boat I guess. No further comment to protect the innocent.
Start raising pheasants, quail, grouse, let them loose then you can hunt them whenever you wish,a couple of well trained bird dogs, bam Bob your uncle!
I'm not a fan of this 'commercial capital breathes new life into sickly landed estate' genre of docos. Money has always married the aristocracy for status and breeding it genuinely lacked. I don't think its right to paint to paint businesspeople as the capable saviors of hapless feudals. Even if they pay for the docos. A problem with the popularization of history, is capital's ownership of mass media. The aristocracy has a better hold over universities, and can keep its messages free from 'sponsors advertisements', and ideological overtures to the monied interests.
I'm fairly certain none of us knows her family history. The possibilities are endless. For all we know, her family could have been from the Brahman class, or even from further up the food chain from the Princely class. In which case, the British would have been cleaning their toilets. Colonizer... FFFTTTT. That sounds like Untouchable unhappiness/reverse-bigotry. And having done Simon's Y-DNA analysis many years ago I know his Y-DNA is not Craufurd or Crawford. He is a Houieson-Craufurd with MoodyMoodie Y-DNA. His paternal line surname changed about 200 years ago with a marriage to the female heir of the Craufurd family. The inheritance was litigated in probate and that is the way it ended up by court decree changing from Moody to Houieson-Craufurd to maintain a connection to the traditional name of the estate. I suppose he could have a few strands of autosomal Craufurd DNA through the female heiress, but that was 5-6 generations ago, so it could be quite diluted by now. Footnote: I haven't yet watched the entire video, but Simon has an older brother and sister.
Filming on this started in 2011. A quick google search shows the castle, and this couple, are still going strong in 2023.
That’s wonderful to hear! It would be heartbreaking for him to lose the family home.
I did the same, they have so many outdoor activities. I am so glad they were able to market it and still keep it in the family.!!!
Watching in 2024. Glad !!
Compared to some of the other clients Simon has tried to help, this couple are aggressive, beautifully polite, open to suggestions, and just plain charming. Wish them the best!
Simon seems like a really decent bloke. He knows they've tried their best, listened to advice, and is supportive of them & encourages them.

So refreshing to see the owners be so nice and open minded....glad to hear they are prospering as if 2023

Oh my. 😊 I’d never do a mud run myself, but watching these people run and laugh together just warmed my heart! ❤
Love that this family and castle are thriving! They have a Dog Daycare, a memorial park, ropes course - appreciate the hustle!

Simon: Give the tour BEFORE the mud run! 😂😂😂
😂😂
Love getting a look inside these Castles.
Tfsharing folks👋🏻
The opulence of the books they have saved over the centuries is just astonishing
Did Simon Craufurd just man-handle a Robert Burns note with his bare hands during dinner? 33:55
And then Simon Craufurd leads a tour of the carpeted insides whilst filthy, unlike his audience who had the clue to, first, hose down and tidy up. 43:33
I liked this episode best of all the others I've seen.
Same. It helped that the couple weren't insufferable and they were willing to work very hard.
If there were one thing that I would never imagine doing at a real castle, it would be a mud run. Outside the box for sure
I’m from Ayrshire, been to every castle there and have NEVER heard of this place.
Fantastic ❤I will be following this story and Rooting for this couple like no other! You guys seem wonderful

I love her Indian enthusiasm....Burns would be proud
Having Lord Grantham himself as a narrator about maintaining and preserving crumbling stately homes is quite the treat...
Oh I don't know about that. I pictured him as more of a Molesley myself 😂
Loved this episode.
I would love to hear updates on these amazing places.
I thoroughly enjoyed this show. TY
great program thank you xx

A great turn around story! ❤😊
A castle walking tour immediately after a mud run #Interesting
very nice family
Pure royalty ❤❤ good gob 👍
Is there a date proposed for it to be fully operational. I’m a Graham related to Crawford’s, Duncan’s, Ireland’s and many more.
This is really interesting , thanks.
the indian connection is delightful, LOL.
Wonderful ❤ we get an idea 💡 of what William Wallace would have looked like 👍 through Crawford ...WW was 6'6" ...house should be saved 😊

I couldn't take something like this on. They've got kids and mountains of debt before even hitting a nail! You can't afford it!
So I guess we’re related too then😂 because my family tree goes back to Wallace too
It's a big mistake to put children way up on top of the tower. that's too dangerous, and tempting fate.
Love to try mud run 🏃♀️ 😅
I hope they can find a way
God Save The King. Long Live The King.
The German monarch?
Sax-Coburg and Gotha.
Might not be rich but definitely wealthy!
The very first thing I would have done is paint that vile blue door.
It was a fad about the time the door was refinished. Not the choice for my current home, but whatever floats their boat I guess. No further comment to protect the innocent.
Brillant! Ethel, Jerusalem, Israel
Start raising pheasants, quail, grouse, let them loose then you can hunt them whenever you wish,a couple of well trained bird dogs, bam Bob your uncle!
No picture
Let Brittany dance inside.
I really want to power wash the outside
Is that Lord Grantham narrating? 😅
Simon is HOT !!!
He knows nothing about royalty. Royalty comes naturally to light skinned Indians..
What is it with those horrible colors? Are these people colour-blind?

This Indian woman doesn't fit in this castle!!!
And then the *little fella,* behind the moniker @AT-kx6fj, completely sh#ts the bed.
it's ironic that indian girl is using her own money to save her colonizer culture and castle...
The stalk home syndrome is real

@@Kevin-rz6lmhectic if true.
It is the wheel of time. Indians own more property in Britain now than the native Brits apparently.
