One of my favorite races ! Nelson Philippe made me dream at this period. Such a shame he does not races anymore, he is young again and talented. He deserves to go back in motorsport.
Aiden Graves you won’t be able to see the original layout due to the tram lines messing the old circuit up but the layout they use for the v8 Supercars is still great
In America it was the Bridgestone/Ford ChampCar GP of Australia, but in Australia it was the LexMark Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise. This is very common of the race in Surfers Paradise.
That first round of pit stops was a mess. Power got nailed by someone, a crew member was lit on fire, and Tracey got called an idiot by the commentator. I love indycar, but not much can compare to this. Chaos.
Great video! One classic rewind that I seriously want to see is the 1998 Visionaire 500K (the only video of the telecast was deleted)! That would be a great way to honor Kenny Bräck's birthday next month! Plus, IndyCar has never uploaded a race that took place in Charlotte or a TNN telecast which I'd love to see!
@@SwineBrothers LMAO you again. Surfers Paradise was talked about for a possible return in Feb. 2020 in the IndyCar Schedule Press Conference earlier this year. It's exactly seven minutes in if you watch it on their channel. I've watched so many random racing videos and you're always trolling with your smartass comments. Stick to other topics other than racing in your viewerless podcasts. Sorry.. not sorry.
@@Corcoran21 Not to mention, how did they celebrate going back to Laguna Seca for this season? By uploading the '96 Grand Prix of Monterey. So yeah, not impossible that Surfers Paradise is coming back, especially if discussions are happening.
@@Corcoran21 the podcast is work. my true love in life is motorsport. but i'm not going to hide my opinions/tell people what they wanna hear. yes, and they'll go back to all the old tracks, get the old cars back, and somehow get all the cart drivers back, and everything will be just like 1998. much as i'd love that, it ain't happening.
Shame what they did to these cars for the last full season in 2007. They weren’t ugly IMO, but man they were nowhere near as cool as the styles from the 90s-2006
If it did come back to surfers it wont be the original layout but the shortened track version they use now for the supercars races as the recently installed tram tracks have made the road way too narrow to just simply turn into a racetrack.
WOW Bourdais has got to be the most arrogant, overrated and hypocritical driver I've ever seen. Crashes and takes out Tracy so many times the year before, never took responsibility for any of it. Tracy does it to him at Denver and he wants to fight him. Does the dumbest move in this race and takes out the leader. Even says he doesn't deserve a penalty, that Power hit him! Lol. Does he realise Power couldn't turn in any later or he'd hit the wall. What an awful sportsman. He showed his actual talent level after, which is just an ok driver. The Newman Haas team was so dominant, he should have won every race. Just like Da Matta, average driver in the best car by a mile. What a shame Champ Car had to have this guy as their paper champion for so many years.
I miss those cars, those engines, those sounds, and those tracks!

The dimensions and lines on these cars were great, especially the Lolas. I still wish we went back to V8's for that higher pitched sound.
Agreed, we need to get methanol back and more revs. It won't sound exact the same but it'll be close.
I am glad that we get to hear Derek Daly. Thank you for posting this video.
Those Lolas
Great times, great category!!
Bring back this great series, bring back Champ Car!!
Going back to the down under?
Can't wait to see this track again! (Hopefully in 2020 😉)

CHAMP CAR!!!!!!!
Sorry, I had to.
Foreshadowing?
Video says: Bridgestone/Ford ChampCar GP of Australia
Title says: LexMark Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise
AxemaN Racing Welcome to American capitalism.
:-D

This explains a lot. Thank you for that.
CART/Champ car had the right to continue using the word Indy outside the US after 1997.
Indycar, please bring indycar back to australia

You dont just upload things like this unless......

here's a track that you really do need to return to, shame they got screwed during the merjer.
Please come back to Australia

Bourdais champion. Dark years of champ car
So you guys throwing out hints at a return to Australia?

Honestly, champcar was hard to watch
Why?
Ugly cars, no ovals, terrible drivers...
Watching late 90s Indy 500s are hard to watch
