      It is nice to have historic trains, but they are just bad for the daily commuters that have to go from Chemnitz to Leipig all the time, considering MRB wants to be a operator, that makes commuting "easier".

    A great video Pete - I really enjoyed it. Leipzig station is certainly imposing and Platform 24 is incredible - how fantastic they keep these historic units in the main station. The Flying Hamburger is my favorite! The trip itself was scenic and the view from the viaduct amazing.

    Hezké video, je zajímavé vidět, že i v Německu jezdí staré vozidla na některých linkách, u té mě zaujala podobnost čel s jednotkami 628/845, v Chemnitzu mě překvapil fakt, že na vlaky a tramvaje si jsou tak moc blízko, u nás v ČR mě v paměti napadá jen Hlučín (Moravskoslezský kraj), kde před desítkami let z Ostravy jezdili tramvaje na nádraží, kde křížili s vlakem z Opavy :D

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 роки тому

      Díky moc :-) V Německu je to celkem časté, že jsou tramvaje blízko vlaků, dokonce někde jezdí jako lehké vlaky (vlakotramvaj). Ty řidičáky jsou opravdu hodně podobné tím čelem. Jinak i v Německu lze ještě potkat starší klasiky, a je také zajímavé, že stejný dopravce má zároveň i hodně moderní jednotky, jako např. Coradia continental

      I have visited the exhibition of historic vehicles several times, but I always have to visit platform 24 again. It is a pity that the Bauart Hamburg train doesn't have the original interior. Btw. I didn't know about the DB museum in Nürnberg, thanks a lot for the information :-)

    There is (usually on Weekdays, especially Fridays) a difference between 1st and 2nd class: In the 2nd class, you have to be fast to get a seat or you have to stand, which happens nearly everytime, especially when you don't depart in Chemnitz or Leipzig. In the 1st class, it is pretty much garuanteed that you get a seat. But when you are very unlucky,, you maybe get left behind on the platform because you didn't fit on the train.

  • @themazeLE
    @themazeLE 2 роки тому +1

    Unfortunately you caught one of the cars with single seats. Most of that MRB cars have the old bench seats with new upholstery (as seen here on the Bomz), which are a bit more comfortable. And you can pull out them in 1st class.
    For me, this local transport line is one of the most comfortable in Germany, but a lot of people don't like it. Mainly because of the high entrances of the cars (which is understandable), but also because of their loud noises thank to the block brakes.

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 роки тому +1

      It doesn't matter, at least it catch the same interior that is photographed in their promotional materials.
      This type of train also suits me more than the new low-entry units. I only found out about this regional express when I saw it in Leipzig and I was fascinated by these cars. Originally, I didn't plan this journey at all :-)

    Excellent video and if you are wondering where the bulk of the electric locomotives E04 E44 & E94 after World War II are located its in West Germany since they're called DB BR104 DB BR144 & DB BR194. Of these locomotives DB BR194 the last one on Leipzig Hbf platform 24 has power to operate on steep sections like the old Spessart Rampe Heigenbrücken Laufach. Leipzig Hbf tief was built in 2009-2013 when it was open for service. From Chemnitz (Karl Marx Stadt) you can reach Prag (Prague) by going down the Tharandter Rampe Dresden Chemnitz (Karl Marx Stadt) line then Dresden Bodenbach(Decin)-Prag (Prague) line.

    The video is great as always.
    The railway station in Leipzig is beautiful, I have been there in 2014, having a business trip.
    I have photos of the heritage vehicles display, but only potato brick quality.
    The similarity of the control coach and the diesel motor units is not coaccidental - so called the Wittenberger head.
    The control system is derived from the unified DB class 111 electrolocomotive.
    The other coaches are alike, than "our Czechoslovakian" ones, been imported during the 80's.
    (there are 3 main differences)
    I think, the ratio between the quality and price is better, if using a second class comparment in the first/second combined class coach.
    1st class legroom for 2nd class price.
    Pete,
    thanks for the trip report.

I took 1st class, because this train was crowded in 2nd class, 1st class was more quiet, which is better for my train review :-)

    • @themazeLE

      Rather because of a lack of cars, the compartment cars also have bicycle spaces. In recent years, those trains often only had 4 cars or some cars borrowed from other companies.

    To je hlavní trať mezi Leipzig a Chemnitz nebo vedlejší trať? Na to jak jsou to velka města mi to přijde jako "lokalka"

    • @PeteBrandy
      @PeteBrandy  2 роки тому

      No defakto je to nejkratší trasa a jediná přímá trať. Pak je také možnost jet přes Drážďany, kam stejná firma jezdí s moderními jednotkami a přestoupit na IC2 nebo ICE do Lipska, což je ale oklikou a dvakrát tak daleko.

    Horrible service. Before they had air-conditioned swinger trains (BR 612) and nowadays they are returning in the "glourious" eastern block time with such train sets.

    • @themazeLE
      @themazeLE 2 роки тому +1

      But the 612s were even less popular. In addition, the travel times at that time were so designed for tilting technology that they were too short, and there were often delays that could not be reduced for the whole day.
