You must be a "Bernie" kind of guy. I'm sure the lighting guy, the audio guy, the crew, the writers, producers, continuity checkers, wardrobe and make up people, director of photography, editor, music composers, actors, extras, distributors and everyone involved did it for free so you could enjoy it for free... Moron.

Due to The Handmaid's Tale series premiering on Hulu, demand for both the novel and the movie re-emerged. Everyone charges as much as they can get for the novel and the movie. Thus capitalism strikes!

I've always liked this film and still prefer it to the new TV series, which drags on a bit, especially with all the back stories which aren''t even in the book. Moss is a great actress but I like Richardson better in this role and definitely prefer Aiden Quinn for Nick.

i think if there's a remake of this by HBO like a miniseries or something it would be brilliant coz i really loved the book and the younger generations would be introduced to this kind of dystopia, different from hunger games and stuff like that. Plus, im also imagining Rosamund Pike playing Offred knowing she would kill it coz her performance in Gone Girl just really makes an impact on you. LOL. Mr Bigg (Chris Noth) would also be perfect for Commander. Just saying

Part of the genius was the slowly revealed plot, the first-person stream of consciousness, and the the lack of chronology. To tell this story in the third person, in a chronological order, no insight into Offred's mind... it completely destroys Atwood's work!

The movie's not terrible, but it's not quite as good as the book. Although I have a gripe with the book as well: the apparently obligatory happy ending the author felt impelled to tack on.

    • @2bluevalentine

    • @varahayes2900
      @varahayes2900 9 років тому

2bluevalentine Yes, but at the end of the book there is an epilogue which states that the Republic of Gilead collapsed and women were given back their equal rights, although we don't find out what happened to Offred. So it's a sort of happy/sad ending.

Vara Hayes is correct: the narrator gets into a van with the Commander's driver (who may or may not be one of the Eyes of God, but who IS the father of her child, and who may or may not be rescuing her) and we hear no more about her ... but there was a Bluebird of Happiness epilogue set at some undefined point after Gilead collapsed. I thought the author should've stopped with the ambiguous ending; it was far more powerful.

Except for the religious aspects, the rest is a totalitarian government where women have no rights exactly as it is in Iran, Syria, Afghanistan etc.

Yep, I have the same problem sometimes, because, when all ideas where new to me, I prefered good ideas, better ideas, but after so many years, it almost now seems I would prefer a "new" idea . Or part of me would. The Amygdala pretends to be the whole brain. The habit of "thinking" I actually mistook for ME. whew! I barely escaped that mental trap....
      --- --- --- --- --- ...or did I?

Just curious, why Scarlett Johannson? If it's because she's physically attractive and has "big boobs", which you're almost guaranteed to see in the sex/rape scenes then you're completely missing the point of the book and film.

Why do they make the wives' outfits look like sexy career women? And I don't like the handmaid's outfits either. The red thing they wear on their head reminds me of a sexy lingerie version of what nuns in training wear on their head. I like the outfits in the tv series because it looks like the outfits gilead has intended them to wear. Plain, not modernized, modest, looks like it's hand sewn, it resembles like what the amish wear which again is exactly what the author wanted it to be portrayed

lol, I love how the comments in this video exploded into "Political/Religion/Socialist" garbage but never even mention that the book is about the allegorical roles of women in a dystopian society, like "Ooops, we forgot to mention that." silly peoples.
Half of the commenters here have probably never even read the book I bet. XD

That's not strictly a hate crime, but it can be interpreted as one because that student was walking around wearing a t-shirt insinuating that anyone who doesn't share his beliefs is below him, and their life is wasted so they shouldn't be living. At least in Canada we can't disrespect fallen soldiers by going to their funeral and picketing at it, saying they because this man was gay so God took his life in combat, and holding signs saying things such as "God hates gays". Just saying.

so whats the story with this movie exactly? not the story like script- i read the book. it's just , i was googling the book cover and a vhs for this movie came up and it struck me as odd how '' sultry '' they made offred look on the cover given the story is bleak and full of rape and sexism and general torture. seemed like an odd fit for her to have a sort of mall glamour shots pic on the cover. even in discussions of the book though i have NEVER heard anyone ever mention this movie- was it a flop? is it worth checking out?

Oh wow I did not know there was a movie.. this trailer looks old-fashioned and as if the acting is probably very bad. I will not watch it, I don't think they chose the actors right..! Especially Offred does not come acorss as genuine even in the trailer. Perhaps they can do another movie one day

I've read it for your information. Please try and explain how they are different, I'm all ears. Ps. Islam isn't a religion actually...it's an ideology. So you're wrong about that. Next time you call someone uneducated try to know what the difference is.

Perhaps you are a bit confused here, but islam is in fact a religion, its followers are known as "muslims." I don't know if english is your first language, but here's a Britanica link to prove it.
      www.britannica.com/topic/Islam
As you see, it will state that islam is a "major world religion." If you google "Islam", you will find many sites and news articles referring to it as a religion. Perhaps you were a bit confused or English isn't your native language. We all make mistakes sometimes.
