History has shown that the only people who lose their jobs when games fail are the people who have no say on the decisions... not the people in management who drive the company and franchises into the ground. Unfortunately I can't see things changing until it is too late, even for them

I hate to break it to you but some people that get fired shouldn’t have been there to begin with. Not saying that’s the case for everyone but yeah. Even if directors or decision makers were fired they’d get another job somewhere else anyways.

When you get a burger at mcdonalds and its not cooked properly whos at fault, the manager or the one who cooked the burger? Likewise, if i think the price of the meal is outrageous whos fault is that, the guy working at mcdonalds or the ceo? Everyone in a company has responsibility, when a bad game comes out theres a variety of people at fault. Blaming management exclusively is foolish and will never yield the desired outcome. When the game runs poorly, or has bad animations, or bad voice acting, or bad conversation to conversation idle dialogue, thats not a ceo issue, thats the issue of the team who made that part of the product.

@@stephenmisener1659 I disagree: a game running poorly, bad animations, bad voice acting etc can just as well be a CEO issue, when that CEO decides that it's cheaper to fire all the competent creators and replace them with people who lack creativity. And that looks like what we're seeing over at games studios like Ubisoft: the competent creators that made the hugely successful games have all left or have been fired and what's left is people who can only make cookie-cutter games because they lack creativity and vision.

Ubisoft don't understand the concept of consumer confidence. Very few people still have confidence in Ubisoft. Only thing about them that you can be confident about is that their games will drop in price like a block of concrete in water shortly after launch.

Problem with this statement is plenty of people are confident in Ubisoft still because they still continue to show time and time again they have extremely talented devs. In spite of all the exec greedy decisions, the games they actually give a damn about and put effort in are almost always fire.
The thing is tho, there’s just the weird anti-ubisoft thing going on now. So even their best slept-on games like AC Unity/Syndicate, Watch Dogs, the rpg AC installments, SW Outlaws and AC Shadows all got ragged on for stupid and hypocritical reasons.
It’s literally just *fun* to trash them and to watch them crash and burn, as Luke says in the video, a lot of people dont really care about how good their games actually are. It’s just fun to dog them really. Buy their games because they actually like them and still dog them lol. Ubisoft is in a very unique position, with their “fanbase”.

@@LimmeLimbo I used to love ubisoft like you do.
You act like it's random hate for fun.. let's start with the fact ubisoft is known for the constant "bait and switch" with outrageously exaggerated trailers compared to actual products so people feel ripped off and lied to.
AC and far cry have adopted mind numbing gaming loops and have become more and more predatory, SW outlaws was not a good game 5 or 6/10 at best, Watch dogs is a 6 or 7/10, avatar was a 6 or 7. skull and bones is a 4 or 5. Prince of Persia was pretty good maybe a 7.5 or 8
what they did to rainbow six and Tom Clancy is offensive to what they were in terms of gaming history. They turned them both into jokes. their NFT projects are also a slap in the face of consumers.
they have fallen off and turned into something unrecognizable
EA, 2K, Ubisoft and Bethesda among many other well established teams are no longer making great games to the same standard and instead have turned their games into gambling simulators or store fronts to manipulate their players (a lot of which are children) and extract most amount of money possible.

It’s weird that the Ubisoft formula is universally seen as bland, uninspired, repetitive - yet so many developers fall back to it and we get almost copy-pasted open world first person shooters year after year, Far Cry 6, Dying Light 2, now STALKER 2, it’s extremely disappointing. in a recent podcast episode, Fritz Schneider from German Gaming magazine Gamestar said it best. He said Ubisoft open worlds, even when they work fine on a technical level, feel like a joke because they never ask the question "why?" in their designs. He then goes on to describe two moments from playing Star Wars Outlaws. On one occasion he was talking to some crime syndicate guy who gave him some information. He was meeting him at a small settlement that had two or three buildings, and they were standing a bit away from those buildings. Suddenly the informant says something like "not here, we don't know who's listening", as if they were meeting at the bazar of Mos Eisley. On another occasion, one of the three keycards to the local syndicate's treasure vault was just lying on a box that was standing around in the open. It makes total sense that the local crime syndicate would put the keys to their treasure vault on some random box, totally nothing wrong with that. Desings like these make the world feel shallow, no matter how good they are performance wise, and even if the moment to moment gameplay is good.

Triple A game companies have lost their passion for making great games. Their only incentive now is infinite financial growth. The only reason a Star Wars game was made is because "Star Wars" is supposed to sell. They're not making the game for us, or even Star Wars fans, they're making a game using a popular IP, to line their own pockets.

The legal ecosystem, if Ubi Soft manages to escape international scrutiny, is very favourable to this kind of madness in France. This is not the USA where even influential CEOs are (mostly) not above the law.

How Ubisoft Could Improve Their Major Franchises:
Far Cry: Return to strong villain-driven narratives and player freedom. Far Cry 5's forced story progression and Far Cry 6's tonal shifts held them back. Also, bring back Far Cry 5's combat improvements.
Rainbow Six Siege: Focus on community feedback for balancing and consider moving away from the esports-centered narrative. Better playtesting for major updates would help stability.
Watch Dogs: The series needs a clearer identity - whether that's serious storytelling or satirical action. The gameplay fundamentals are solid, but the narrative direction needs focus.
Assassin's Creed: The series would benefit from a fresh trilogy with:
Single creative director with full narrative control
    Dedicated historical research team
    Return to grounded historical fiction
Focus on the core assassin experience without supernatural elements
Cohesive story that carries across all three games
Similar to God of War's 2018 reinvention, AC needs to remember what made it special while modernizing thoughtfully.

A lot of these problems that people find in post game launch are because of a lot of elements that are not predictable. Now some companies are just incompetent and some others make games that have so much in it that the things mess with eachother in ways that well they wouldn’t know until people play the game. Bugs are the things I don’t care about because they can always be fixed, I care more about the actual writing and gameplay of games because that is what matters the most

As a kid Assassin's Creed was my favourite franchise, the story and characters were amazing and the worlds were top notch, with the standout for me being the database entries, those entries forming my notes for my secondary school history classes. I never cared when Ubisoft transformed the series into an an RPG, AC Origins was amazing, I loved Bayek and Aya, and the fact we did not get a trilogy based on either of them was a huge loss. With Odyssey I started to lose my love for the franchise, to me Odyssey could best be described as The Division with an AC skin on it. The stories and characters were boring you had the father of philosophy and at no point in meaningful, deep conversation on ethics etc. On top of that was the microtransactions yes Origins had them I don't how but I ignored tem in that game but with Odyssey I could not ignore, the second you are charging money for XP boosts is proof your game is not worth playing. On top of that was the laziness of Kassandra and Alexios, a game as big as this you could have done similar to RE2 have one playthrough from Kassandra's perspective as the hero then play Alexios as Deimos and then switch them for a 3rd and 4th playthrough this lack of innovation is what is killing them. No further proof, of this was Valhalla I finished that game due to sunken cost fallacy, it was boring too big and forgettable. It finally clicked the franchise was dead when Hades & Ghost of Tsushima, both got and won, more awards than a mainline AC entry. Two brand new IPs, one of them an indie, got more critical acclaim than an AC game solidifying to me that this franchise was dying.

As with almost all long-running franchises, Assassin's Creed suffers from diminishing returns. There comes a point where "everything has been done" and the gameplay reaches its sweet spot and it's very hard to go beyond that. Which is why some AC games tried different game mechanics and either weren't as successful as others, or were an obvious outlier, like the still popular AC: Black Flag.

Usually when a healthy company goes in steep decline it's because they have been taken over by some greedy suits that have no idea of the core business of the company and are only interested in short term profit, but in Ubisoft's case it's the same people that also made the company great in the first place. I don't understand how you can drive a healthy and profitable company against the wall so hard. Also, their strategy to focus almost exclusively on Assassin's Creed in the next years is completely insane. IIRC, GR Wildlands took nearly a decade of work and rework before they release it, and even then it was still buggy but at least it was a success and still one of the best open-world game they have, The Division 1 is great as well but whatever happened to the guys that were behind those projects? Did they get fired or left because of what Ubi was becoming.

Luke, the problem with Ubisoft stems from the greater problems within the industry. Every major company being beholden to their all powerful investors that believe infinite wealth and growth is possible. Appeasing investors is why companies are laying off whole console/PC dev teams but not touching the mobile devs. Appeasing investors is why we went from a horse armor DLC(microtransaction) to the insane macrotransactions we have today. I truly miss the Ubisoft of old and I wish we could go back, but that won't happen under current leadership and definitely wouldn't happen under Tencent. If Tencent gets full aquistion, then Ubisoft will turn into the world's largest private mobile game/ripoff(asset flipping) game making studio.

I have a friend working at a branch of Ubisoft which is responsible for a lot of NFT games released out there. After years of failed development for Skulls and Bones, the executives decided to shove this IP down the throat of this branch. And when it inevitably failed, the branch is the one taking the blame. They do not have their voices in any of these decisions, they simply try to get by the days doing their jobs while the C-levels are hoarding the money for themselves.

Ya I mostly agree with your assessment - I think the biggest problem with Ubisoft is its full-scale investment into DEI / ESG / woche agenda nonsense with feminism, alphabet degeneracy, and virtue signaling (ie. Yasuke) - if Tencent can come in and kick outthe Guillemot leadership, put normal people in charge and get the big franchises back onto a normal track, that will help a lot.
Ubisoft just does so much wrong and needs so many changes..

It's sad how much Ubisoft has fallen. I remember the good days of old when Ubisoft through Assassin's Creed SET the industry standard, they WERE the standard. Now, all they do is follow trends set by better studios and companies.

Because 9 times out of 10 it's either going to be a game that's broken or marred in controversy over the self insert politics ir because of greedy/bullshit game mechanics. The only game I have mustered a shred of anticipation for is Crimson Desert, and even then it's a a cautiously optimistic type of anticipation.
I'm in my 30s now, I ain't got the time or energy to be angry over videos game or movies. When a gamee flops, which seems to be inching closer to the norm for games nowadays, I just shrug my shoulders and continue to enjoy the classic collection on PSN. Putting in Nobunaga's pet is one thing, but mistaking Chinese Architecture for Japanese Architecture, mixing up plants like selling Persimmon fruits in Spring then having blooming Sakura during rice harvest is another. Even one of their released gameplay videos show Nobunaga's pet using the Naginata like a Guandao despite the fact that both weapons are used differently (Shogun portrayed Naginata combat well).
Also, who can never forget the One-legged Torii debacle where the game collectible depicted a One Legged Torii despite there is an actual One-Legged Torii that is kept as a war memorial.
Ubishit is releasing Shadows for Black History Month in order to protect Nobunaga's pet from criticism. Let's say Shadows sell well, if it does, it will only delay the inevitable. This game wouldn't save Ubishit from the mess they entered into.

The solution is mind-blowingly simple and Ubisoft only need to do two things for them to thrive again: 1. Get rid of the Live Service model that they have adopted for so long now, and make games singleplayer, story focused instead.
And 2. Stop being greedy, get rid of the "get used of not owning your games" mentality, and let us EARN cosmetics etc within the game itself, instead of putting EVERYTHING behind a paywall!!
If Ubisoft can do these things, which i personally wouldn't hold my breath that they are going to, then they will get on the good side of all their loyal fans, but i honestly cant see that happening since the greed is really strong at Ubisoft!!!
