This unfortunate Electrical Engineer does not sound like an unhappy alcoholic, coupled with a poor diet lacking in thiamine which is how current MD's perceive such individuals. A Neuropsychologist, analyst, etc. could have inquired about his earliest memories and whether there was family dysfunction. This would be the likely starting point for such a patient. Sadly, science seems to be decades away from acceptance of neuro-anything other than neurology. I can only applaud Dr. Solms for his tenaciousness educational efforts. My personal life experiences strongly support his work.
As a neurologist, listening to Prof Mark Salms, I just realized the goal of proper clinical practice in my field. Thank you for making these talks available on UA-cam!
Dr. Sacco, What's your take on Gerald Edelman's technical work? (To me, he seems a very deep and important thinker who is unjustly depreciated and overlooked.)
Does anyone know if Solms has written about the distinction between transference neuroses, narcissistic neuroses and psychoses he outlines in this video?
Specialization is Compartmentalization This is why academics of any field should study philosophy. A synthesis of the physical and metaphysical, the object and the subject, is vital to formulating a full comprehension of any topic. The ancients referred to certain philosophers doctors of the soul, they were the first psychologists, even then they understood that a doctor of the body can not heal certain ailments without consulting the doctor of the soul. The divorce of science and art is detrimental.
