I love the literal spark between Maria and the Captain. This version is a true gem. Thank you so much for sharing it and for the excellent English captions!
I can't believe he would hold a firework in her face while they talk under the Xmas tree! Never knew this film existed so am grateful for the posting .
This version was so much more natural and realistic. The Sound of Music version was treacly sweet at times, esp the I am Sixteen song act. Both versions are wonderful, but this one remains truer to the story and so delightful. Very happy to have found it here, thank you for uploading! I did not know this existed. Now I will buy the DVD version.
Hi. Just click the captions button on the bottom right of the UA-cam screen. If in the mobile app, tap the video, then click the three dots in the top right and "captions" will be one of the options. Select "english."
The song the children are singing when their father is listening was beautiful. Little Martina sang like and angel. They all did.Silent Night was so beautiful sung in the native German language. My family was from Germany, but they came in the 1700s. I sure would love to visit Germany.
This movie truly warms my heart ... love, kindness and tenderness fills it with all its glory. It has no equal ... not Romeo and Juliet, or Cinderella. Well, perhaps one ... my own mother and father’s 😁.
For English Subtitles: If in the mobile app, tap the video, then click the three dots in the top right and "captions" will be one of the options. Select "english."
I have to admit the original Germany lyrics of 'Silent Night' are far better. It is a far more cosy ('faithful' has a double meaning in German), intimate and lonely Bethlehem scene that the English version. Joseph gets included also.
The script is so much better than the script in Sound of Music, which ends with a silly fictional chase over a local mountain straight into Berchtesgaden..(yep. Check a map.)
"Sie dürfen ja nichts mitnehmen ins Kloster...Hier sind ein paar Kleinigkeiten." :D Ich liebe diesen Film! Ich finde es nur ein wenig schräg, dass sie am Heiligen Abend ausgerechnet "Hänschen Klein" spielen wollten, aber bitte. ;)
Hey, not to ruin the romance scene with their faces getting closer. But doesn't Maria even acknowledge the stick flaring close to her face? She could destroy her eyes!!!!

Hi. Just click the captions button on the bottom right of the UA-cam screen. (Could I ask a question? I notice you comment is a common complaint on the site. Is it you not familiar with UA-cam's subtitles function - or are you viewing the video through another player where the caption button doesn't show? Thanks!)
+TheVonTrappFamily On my screen the button for that is 3 dots in the upper right of the screen. I watched this film slowly over the past month and I find it much better than the version with Julie Andrews. But then I have lived in Deutschland before. I simply can not understand how the United States does not give this film its due fanfare? I live in California. Vermont is on my radar now.

I’m of German heritage and we sing the German version of “Silent night” in church every Christmas Eve-love this!
...what a lovely and lively Maria! Beautiful production!...

Danke fur diser Film. Er gefelt mir sehr!

It's funny how his sneeze was the cue for them to start singing :P
One can clearly see that the sound of music belongs to Austria and the Alps and not holliwood

my fave line by Fräulein Maria "I know where being in love leads..... nothing but manslaughter and murder!!" lol
Lighting a sparkler indoors 😱
子供たちの声が、明るくて、美しい‼️とても良かった
Ruth Leuwerik ist wie in all ihren Filmen ganz große Klasse!
Wow. I love the lyrics more for Silent Night in German

The "beautiful child" lyric is a deliberate reference to baby Moses in Exodus 2.2.
I wish I could read the lyrics here
Because Stille Nacht is the original of that song :)

lol...the most people think switzerland is just on the other side of the mountain/hill
子供たちの歌声が素晴らしい!天使!
I like this film more than the latter production with Julie Andrew's.
Очень хороший фильм!
"this woman doesn't belong here!" Then in the next episode he marries her.

Wers kann. 😍
+FaithHopeLove 9 I will never stop trying to learn Deutsch!

that was my favourite scene in the entire movie!
I wonder why the Hollywood version removed the Christmas scenes?? Juice, anyone??
Maybe because they didn't want to copy the original scene by scene? To me the Christmas scene was the best part of the movie.
They should have left the curtain rods in the kids' clothes like Starlett did in Carl Burnet's "Went with the Wind"
Are nuns allowed to wear lipstick?
He. Was not as stuffy as Christopher Plummer.
