I rank Robert Plant as the best natural pure rock voice of all time and it is obvious to me he has been a huge infleunce upon legions of singers (including myself) and I hear his influence in the singing by Ray Gillen here, and dude from Greta Van Fleet, but Ray was a man on par with Plant, just a phenomenal voice, maybe even better (Plant was the first though so respect please, he broke the ground first) and a pure talent. Buddy from Greta though, and I love the band though they mine Zeppelin and only Zeppelin for look, sounds, even song framework but that singer just ills me out. He took Plants worst vocal malfunction that showed itself maybe twice in his whole recorded carreer, and made it the focus of his whole tone. Sorry, not a talent, a mimic with bad taste.Badlands was the real shit, the change to Jeff Martin on drums turned out to be a huge jolt of inspiration for a bande that was stellar already. Voodoo Highway was just mental, and I still listen to it regularly, wow what a fantastic album, I still listen to it on my heavy rotation, just like Zeppelin,Bad Company, Purple, Floyd, and even some metal, like Priest,Sabbath, and Queensryche, and like every good Canadian, Rush. But my playlist has no room for wanna be Gretas, they are not the deal. Once again, Badlands should have been mega huge, they were so,so, good. Thanks Jake,Jeff,Ray,and Greg for Voodoo Highway, and thanks also to Eric for stellar drumming on the debut album.

RDC is awesome too, so glad he returned after his hiatus and still making music! 👍To my favorite guitarist 👍, I thank you.
Mainstream media sucks! Badlands was an amazing wakeup call! Unfortunately media had other directions it was focused on... Thanks Jake E Lee and company for your amazing contribution to our World.
I love their raw ballsy rock sound. They were different than a lot of bands at this time because they used less effects and they weren’t overproduced like a lot of bands during this era. All the musicians were super talented as well. Like a super group.
Jake is one of my top favorite guitarists of all time and Ray has such an amazing voice. I've been singing in bands for years and what Ray does is pretty amazing. Hitting notes that are higher is one thing. The real challenge is having a great tone to your voice throughout a range like that. I wish things ended up way different.
The more I listen to those first two albums, the more I;m convinced they are the best band of that era. Not a weak note on either album. They should have been much bigger than they were, and possibly could have if they lasted.
I've been into this Jake E. Lee/Bandlands/Ray Gillian mood. I love this old shit. I saw Bandlands in San Francisco at a club called The Stone, with Saraya opening. Man, that one of the coolest shows I've ever witnessed Gillian and Lee were just off the rails! I was front row and Jake opened a can of Sprite and it splashed up on me. Too bad Gillian is dead. One of the best voices in music history! Hands down!!!!!
I saw these guys back in '89 on their first tour. Kicked ass. It's a shame Gillen passed. He could sing some of the old Sabbath songs well. Great vocal range. Jake E. Lee on guitar just made for a well rounded band.
I saw these guys back in the day at Arnold Hall on the Air Force Academy Base in Colorado Springs. The theater seats probably a couple of thousand people maybe 3,000, but there were literally only about 100 people there. I felt so bad for them but they did do a good show from what I remember...
