You would think in a world where everybody on both sides is supposedly so into racial harmony this would have as many views as a military expert vid, but yeeaah no.
Because as many things that it got right, it got a number of things wrong as well. Showing certain characters surviving the pogrom that didn't survive in real life (Sylvester Carrier, for example), having a fictional Old West-style gunslinger as the main character who saves several people (who, again, didn't survive in real life) and who pulls himself up a rope while he's being lynched when only one person in American history has ever been known to survive being lynched (James Cameron), and the post-credits text claiming an exaggerated death toll with no evidence to back it up (even survivors' testimonies only went as high as 27 dead).
This was superbly done. This gentleman clearly knows his stuff, and does an awesome job both respecting the films while also providing historical details and context.

I've watched a lot of these "professional such and such reviews scenes about such and such" and this is the first time I feel like I have actually learned not just the facts about the scenes and the historical context but also leave here with a larger grasp of what movies and scenes should instill in us. A desire to know more. Thank you Yohuru Williams.

@@nagygreta5295 1. It usually implies that being well-sponken is an anomaly amoung us. That usually blacks are dumb but that particular person's intellect surprised you. I never see this compliment given to white or east asian people, only children and those with darker skin. 2. And the more typical reason, it undermines AAVE. The reason we are usually not seen as being well spoken is because we have our own dialect. Like anything we do until its appropriated, its been seen as ghetto, unintelligent, or wrong. AAVE is a legitimate dialect with strict grammer and a rich history.

The corruption within our own government and criminal justice system, especially when it comes to social/racial issues, is truly shocking and a definition of Dystopia. Thank you for telling the stories they will never teach you about about in school.

So incredible. So much of this history I never considered, mainly because as a Canadian I never learned any American history in school. And interesting to know that so much of these films were accurate.
Speaking as an American, you don't learn too much history here either. At least not very much non-white history outside of tiny tidbits. This is why listening to the voices of Black people and experts on history is much better than relying on a system built by and for white people.

The Young Lords and Young Patriots were also anti-capitalist and they built their solidarity around the fact that they were all being abused by capitalism. It doesn't matter where you are on the political spectrum, that is what these people believed and the idea was central to their beliefs. Leaving that out is a distortion.

Selma is one of my favorite films because it”s about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the March to Selma Alabama and I seen the movie Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington and Do the Right thing and BlackKlansman directed by Spike Lee and the Hate u give and Green Book. Also 12 years a slave, Lee Daniels the butler and Mandela long to freedom and 42 Jackie Robinson movie and lots more

that was hard to watch as a white man not living in the us .specially the last scene that should not happen in modern society to anyone and that this is almost a daily event sickens me and if you or your family has been the victim of police brutalty my heart goes out you im not gonna say i understnad cuz i dont and i never will. That being said the issue here is we should do more training and better screening before we give someone that much power being a police oficer is rly a hard job and comes with much responsibility and we should treat it as such now dont. and the seccond issue is as long as we keep classing ourself by race we will never se equality we need to start seeing our self as humans not white, black, hispanic or asian we are alll humans and should treat each other with the same respect as we would want to be treated until that happens we will never get equality. SHOW COMPASION NOT HATE
