7:17 In order to not have to do this again, you can assign a hotkey to bring up the RetroArch menu anytime while gaming. Go to ‘⚙ -> Input -> Hotkeys’ and assign a hotkey to ‘Menu Toggle’. I chose the ⏎ button on the Retroid Pocket 5. Now whenever I press that, it brings up the RetroArch settings menu so I can freely change settings or quit games.
Your channel is really great and you have a very likeable personality. I think other retro companies should reach out to you for reviews ☺️ Have a great day
Oh my god, your little comment at 4:26 about your SD card being named /storage/6163-3239 just saved me. I had been searching FOREVER to figure this out! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much. There are so many in-depth videos on how to setup your RO5, but it became too much. I almost avoided touching the thing for days. But your video got me started in a short amount of time. Thank you.
Hi! I would love to see more information on the accessories available for the device, especially the screen protector and how to put it on. I considered buying this December as it fits all my retro gaming needs. Thank you for the informative videos!
Absolutely loving all the rp5 content. I'd love to see another NS showcase. A few id like to see are Another Crab's Treasure, South Park Snow Day, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest 3 remake, Red Dead, One Piece Odyssey, Astral Chain, and Monster Hunter Stories. Soo many more too lol I've got like 400 switch games downloaded waiting for my rp5 to test them. I'm honestly more excited to spend hours upon hours testing and tinkering with switch games than I am to actually play the thing.
Glad you're enjoying it! I'm filming a new video on that topic today! There are too many great games for that system so I'm going to have to make many more videos on it for sure!
Awesome videos man! Loving the channel. Any chance on tutorial on arcade games (MAME,FBN)? so many different options to choose kind of confusing. Thanks!
Very helpful content, even just the (Ryan)Retroarch general information should help someone down the line. It can be a lot of configuring and trying to select cores you like and then adjusting settings overall so the faster you can get into using it the less daunting it feels.
Brilliant video, never having used RetroArch before I didn't know where to start, and it was daunting. Now when my RP5 gets here, I'll be using this to get it up and running! Thank you so much for doing such a useful guide. Is it 'better' to use RetroArch than individual apps or is it just personal preference?
This is exactly what I wanted - RetroArch was so daunting for me the first time and most guides on UA-cam I could find are really long and detailed and cover so many topics when all I wanted was to just get it running and play some games. It's personal preference. RetroArch can do a lot of cool things but I personally still just prefer launching individual apps.
Retroarch is confusing at first but we'll worth learning it if you love shaders so it looks as if your playing on a cat monochromatic or color. Even if you want tobemulate the RF modulator look which is what I like
Can you test techno parrot games through winlator, with for example the star wars battle pod rom. ..and maybe some sweet older games like mech warrior 4 or such?
Hi Ryan, excellent video! I'm having issues with Neogeo. In the last stable version of retroarch 64, the recommended core (finalburn neo) has disappeared and there's only one (Geolith) which isn't working, at least in my RP5. Any ideas or solutions? Is anyone having the same issue? Thanks a lot in advance and keep doing this awesome work!
Hi Ryan, I’m a complete novice at setting these up. My RP5 is arriving next week. I have my micro SD already. A few questions for you if you have a moment. Do I set everything (including APPS) up on my PC and transfer to the RSP or do I load the apps from the unit and only transfer the files (ROMS, BIOS,). Also what is the best front end app for this device? All help greatly appreciated. Thanks
I do everything on the RP5 itself. The only thing id transfer over is ROMs and BIOS files. I have a setup guide on my channel you should watch. Also I'm releasing another video tonight which shows off 3 of your frontend options
@ that’s great stuff Ryan….love your channel mate.. the only thing I’ve seen on many other channels is they add the latest versions not the pre-installed versions of apps on the unit. So I can install the recent versions of the apps on the unit and not on the pc??? Cheers Ryan
You'll have to search how to get games online unfortunately as I can't share that kind of information. You'll want to buy an SD card and populate it with your favourite games.
I think I might have missed something- do you have to use retroarch if you already have the individual apps installed for each system separately?? What is the benefit of both?
No you don't. RetroArch is an all-in-one app so it's a choice of if you want to use a different app for every system, or if you want only one app to launch everything. Many people like to use only RetroArch because it can be your go-to app for any game you want to play. There are also tons of mods for it to enhance games like adding the old boot logos of systems etc. It's personal preference if you want to use Dolphin for Gamecube, Duckstation for PS1, PPSPP for PSP etc. or if you want to just only use RetroArch for every game.
Do I need to follow the general setup guide with all the separate emulators in order to do this? Because I’d rather have all my games in retroarch with ES-DE.
Did you follow my guide and assign a button to bring up the RetroArch menu? When you open the menu in-game, you then need to press the 'back' button and there you'll see a different menu which lets you close out of the game. I was also stuck on that at first!
@@RyanRetro1 You're welcome. When my RP5 arrives I'll be using DuckStation as I'm already familiar with configuring it and I'm presuming it as the standalone app may be updated more regularly than the equivalent core in RetroArch.
They should be working - check what you've got the controller set to from the RP5's drop-down menu. Also try other systems within RetroArch so you can narrow down whether it's the specific system or the whole of RetroArch which isn't registering your inputs.
The purpose of this video was to be a simple introduction for people who haven't used the app before as stated in both the video and description. Advanced themes are a topic for different videos.

You’re a legend!
Thanks Ryan, my daughter brought a Retroid 5+ for my 57th birthday. I am all set & ready to game! Great vid & easy to follow even for an old lady! 😂
Wow what an awesome present! I hope you enjoy it and happy birthday!
You’re not an old lady!! You’re a young lady trapped in a 57 year old body, gaming like this🫶🏼
Your channel is really great and you have a very likeable personality. I think other retro companies should reach out to you for reviews ☺️

Thank you so much! I'd love to review other products but I'm too poor to buy them so I'd be open to companies reaching out!
Finally ! someone who calls its RetroArch, instead of RetroArk 😅😅
There's an H in it!

Wake up, Eat, Watch Ryan Retro Videos and Sleep
PERFECT COMBO
Awesome tutorial 👌
With this tutorial, as soon as mine arrives i will be speedrunning the configuration phase and go for the WR on "actually play a game%"
You can do it!
Tbh ur into us soo good yet so simple, i love it 😮
What is? Haha

This was a helpful video thanks. My rp5 should be here in a few days. I use retroarch on my rg35 sp but never needed to set anything up before

Very helpful content, even just the (Ryan)Retroarch general information should help someone down the line. It can be a lot of configuring and trying to select cores you like and then adjusting settings overall so the faster you can get into using it the less daunting it feels.
Thank you for saying so - It really is a daunting app for a beginner so I wanted to make a very simple get-started guide
Maybe you can do one to set up retroachievements on the RP5 showing how to ensure cores that work with RA load in preference over other cores

RetroArch has so many features it's actually insane. That's why I wanted to make a super simple tutorial of just the basics
Hey Ryan if you’re using retro arch, all you would need are the roms correct? You wouldnt need to install any Bios files?
Can you test techno parrot games through winlator, with for example the star wars battle pod rom. ..and maybe some sweet older games like mech warrior 4 or such?
Worth also pointing out that if you have standalone emulators for consoles and use ES-DE etc. then you dont need to use Retroarch for those colsoles.
I think while it's true, some people just like to have an all in one solution. Kinda like emulation station but with a light front end.
Thank you- that def confused me!
ES-DE is tomorrow's video! Thanks for pointing this out for the community
Now you've done it 🤣

If I'm not mistaken, SwanStation is RetroArch's name for DuckStation for whatever reason.
Oh, thanks for the information!
@@RyanRetro1 You're welcome. When my RP5 arrives I'll be using DuckStation as I'm already familiar with configuring it and I'm presuming it as the standalone app may be updated more regularly than the equivalent core in RetroArch.
I also prefer Standalone apps for that reason. I'm just used to maintaining apps having used phones for so many years.
Seems really fussy about scanning certain file types. ZIP, CDI, GDI just seem to get ignored. 😒
Oh really? I've had issues with file types in a lot of emulators. It's really frustrating, isn't it?
І installed cores and loaded games, but in game none of the buttons, joystics and triggers are working. Looks like guide is missing something

Not so simple for ps2 games. Why didn't you show for more advanced cores?
