This has been going on for years.
Thank you for this valuable information. People that usually buy gift cards are short for time and/or in a hurry to get that gift obligation out the way and not really paying attention. Not to mention not using the gift card right away, which delays the fact you have been scammed. Thank you again for the tips!
That's a shame with VISA ones because it sometimes requires opening it up completely to see the paper inserted.

Some gift card companies actually mail the gift cards directly to the merchandisers that service and restock the gift card kiosks, while others are mailed directly to stores. Not all gift cards work this way, but some do. I'm guessing the most commonly tampered ones are the ones that are not mailed directly to the store.

Before watching your video, I never thought that you could get scammed for buying a gift card from grocery store. In the past, I would just grabbed gift cards off the shelves without inspecting them. Dang, people try to scam you in every way these days.

If you are getting a store gift card for yourself; It’s best to go to customer service and request a store credit vs a gift card.
Hmmm. This is mainly for the purpose of churning credit cards so you get your 5-10% at grocery stores without spending it actually at the grocery store.

You buy it but you don't have the numbers to spend it. The scammer then uses the card number and buys things with it without you noticing.

What is the difference in using a gift card to just using your cash back credit card directly when purchasing something.

Credit cards have cash back in certain categories. Buying gift cards at a grocery store is then classified as grocery purchase. Then with the gift cards you have this high cash back and you spend it on anything that does not have a high cash back category like utilities, fast food, insurance, parking meters, etc.
They removed the middle numbers and the three digit code
10 to 15% cash back. What?! What credit card is that? And also you're able to buy visa gift cards with credit cards?
Sears mastercard but not available anymore. You might do so with 5% cash back cards, you can buy gift cards with credit cards.

HELP PLEASE That's what EXACTLY happened to me yesterday. I bought a visa gift card in walmart and the cashier gave me a card with a fake bar code paper in the front and she charged 500 usd in it. I don't know how to claim because visa tells me to go to the store and when I'm there the walmart customer service managers tells me to call visa. Please help!!!
They could try to void the gift card purchase if the scammer didn't redeem the card yet but seems like Walmart isn't helping you on that.

Why would you buy gift cards if you have a debit card or credit card? What did you mean your credit card has 10-15 percent cash back reward? What does that have to do with buying gift cards?
Many credit cards will have cash back rewards for purchasing at certain places. For example gas stations 5% cash back. You buy a $100 Visa gift card at a gas station, and now you just got 5% cash back on $100 worth of purchases for anywhere, not just the gas station. Not sure exactly where he's getting his 10-15% cash back. He may be talking about points conversions to different credit cards, which increases its points value. For example chase sapphire reserve gives you 1.5x your points value when you transfer your points to it. So 5% cash back turns into 7.5% cash back.

@@vasilestana9754 Pathetic how? The chase Freedom flex is one of the best credit cards out there (5% cash back). If you're Freedom flex isn't useful for this quarter, you just need more credit cards that can fill out the rest of your year. Discover it, US Bank Cash Plus, Costco citi Visa card, Venmo credit card, etc. 10-15% cash back is unheard of. I told you I am curious as well.

This just happened to me today well I bought my card last night I put 230 dollers on it to pay my dr when I went to register the card they said the money wasn't on my card they told me to take it back to the store the store gave me a number to call they are not in yet it Saturday and they are 2 hours behind I hope they can give money back how long did it take your girlfriend to get her money back?
I bought a $100 vanilla Gift card and I spend $50 but later on someone made a purchase without my permission from some weird place that I don't even know I called customer service and they said I need to call the place that the person purchase it there I was like there's no number to call how am I going to contact them? Customer service person said well in 7 days call back and than we investigate I was like wtf 😒 7 days? Dude was rude I'm sure he being getting phone calls like mine and this happened right away when I purchased something from Walmart I went and checked online from the vanilla Gift card website online I put all the info and first it said I had $50 left later on that I went to check again surprise someone made a purchase without my permission that's mess up

This is real. I just got a fake 20-200$ visa and a fake 50$ visa gift card at a harris teeter in Virginia.
Weirdly they both worked, but I realized fake when I went to register at the site they said to register at inside the envelope and on the gift card itself.

I got a $100 vanilla Gift card I did luckily wasted right away $50 but the other $50 we're stolen by who knows who I did check online the place the sacmmer bought it from I was about to call it but didn't found no number to call I did went to that website but couldn't find a phone number I'm going bad because I lost $50 I won't be buying no more I was going to pay my monthly prepaid phone bill but that was a fail they need to find this scammers and put them in jail
