This is still my favorite vehicle out of the VAG family. The biturbo engine was a monster and tunable to no end. Its unbelievable that Audi went to a V8 for some to the newer generation S4s. I like that he has it tuned so it can still hold its own against most modern sports minded cars of today. Enjoyed watching this.
I'm still dailying this car, the beloved B5 S4. Just crossed 300,000 km's (186,000 miles) and the thing runs like new! I'm worried that i'll miss it dearly if I sell... :)
@kamionkami1 I finally sold it last year, and it was running very well. About 335,000kms. It was my only car and with a family it was not making sense anymore, as it was often needing small fixes here and there and getting old for a daily. So I bought a cheap daily Civic and am planning to get something fun for a second car so I can have more serious fun with it! The S4 will always be fondly remembered!!
I've been subscribed to Chris' channel for sometime now, and I must say, his S4 is the most perfect one that anybody could ever want. It looks incredibly clean and factory modified, yet can blow the doors off of anything below a supercar. Great video, and you should review his Boxster sometime!
Yeah, I saw the thumbnail, and was immediately like: "Is this Chris' S4?" I remember some of the more recent mods from my time on the Vortex and absolutely adore the car. (I've said to myself on a number of occasions that if it goes up for sale, I want it. Lol)
best s4 I've seen! I love that he drives it hard and the car has a oem plus kinda build. I've been subbed to him for along time! Excellent review btw!!!! keep ones like these coming! This car seems like a dream to drive, I have always wanted one but the maintenance kept me away.
Fantastic video!!! Chris O's S4 is just about perfect, and his UA-cam channel is fantastic. Probably one of the best Audi's that I've ever seen. And it's nice to see him doing some for with Winding Road.
Huge respect for you Chris, I am currently taking mechanical engineering right now, and it is my goal/dream to build a b5 s4 to similar taste and hopefully pursue a career in the automotive industry as well.
Been following Chris for alot of years now :) Great inspiration and alot of good taste in this B5. Thanks for the B5 love Winding Road Magazine :) Keep up the good work Chris :)
Yep, and the B1-B4 was the Audi 80, the A4's predecessor. Kind of like how BMW labels their cars with E39, E90, F10, F30 etc. Mine had the 2.8 liter v6 engine. I miss the B5, I would take it over the new Audi's any day.
***** My B5 went to the junkyard as well. Deep down, I knew something was wrong with the oil pump..I should have had it looked at while I still had the chance. Would have saved myself a lot of heartbreak. Oh well, ya live and ya learn..
never read a comment someone saying they don't miss there's. even though I am broke because mine I know it's temporary and holding on to it will be worth it.
EminentLine. Yea since it went to timing chains went to the back of the engine it's a maintenance nightmare. If you want a v8 get a A6 wide body and they have timing belts but it's mounted on the front end. I you got the money Forced induction is the way to go.
wow your car is beautiful , i have a b5 myself its very good condition too, i wanna do what you did , and OEM plus upgrade . i must ask you what did your steering wheel swap run you. that wheel looks very good with the interior
awesome review. constructive criticism would be not to take both hands off the wheel while the owner is sat next to you in the passenger seat. that would annoy me if this was my car.
The wheel is custom - the base wheel is from a B8 S4. Nexon Motors then reduces the diameter and makes the rim thicker...and of course adds the carbon. The airbag should be functional.
What a gorgeous Noggy S4. I've always wanted a B5 of my own, yours is a exactly how I'd imagine mind. They're hard to find in this kind of condition here in NY.
I don't like the v6 and v8 engines ,the 1.8t engine is more reliable and may be slower then the S4 engine ,it has better mpg then the S4 . My dad had a 1999 S4 and that car always had engine problems . I haven't maintain my a4's oil in 3 months and it still turns on , my old 2001 Honda Civic would never turn on if you didn't change the oil every three months . The 2004 A4 I own is the best car I have ever purchased , the second best being a 1999 Honda Prelude ,which I miss ,that car had HKS headers with AEM spider exhaust system ,it was 220 whp as fast as my A4 .But I sold it for $2500 dollars because I needed the money .
Damn what a clean S4, and that steering wheel! Makes the entire interior.
I've followed Chris O. for a while, definitely a proper beast of an S4.
Thanks!
same! his car is legit and the S4 B5 never gets the credit it deserves! it still is faster than alot of modern cars today with the proper setup.
Chris O u mind emailing me ur list of mods?

In the same boat.
I had an a6 with that 2.7t in in and a 6speed manual. I sold it . I regret doing that
where is the wheel from?

@The Manager I'm assuming you mean to ask the orginal poster... I just had a regular radio on mine.
That steering wheel is awesome! My favorite colors, blue grey and black together
STOP. Wheelie time 2:17

came for a Car Lounge legend, stayed for the nice video work. what a great example of a proper S4.

I'm a big BMW fan owned many different generation M3s.but I've always loved the older S4s/RS4s especially the B5 they are monsters.
2:18 That wheelie xDD Epic photobomb!
This car has aged so well. It still looks and performs like a modern car. And the color is outstanding.
Fantastic video!!! Chris O's S4 is just about perfect, and his UA-cam channel is fantastic. Probably one of the best Audi's that I've ever seen. And it's nice to see him doing some for with Winding Road.
I want one so bad! Especially in yellow or blue.
Love this test drive. I hope you guys do more reviews of tastefully modded cars.
I like the direction the channel is headed. This feels like a POV version of Matt Farah's one takes.
I love my nogaro blue B5 S4. The day I bought mine I was beyond excited. I'm about to finally k04 swap my car and go stage 3 👍🏻
Huge respect for you Chris, I am currently taking mechanical engineering right now, and it is my goal/dream to build a b5 s4 to similar taste and hopefully pursue a career in the automotive industry as well.
I own a B5 RS4 which I’ve had for 14 years now tuned by MRC tuning with 205k miles love it a great car
I'm in love with this car and I'm typing this while in bed next to my wife. I think this car is perfect. I have a B5 a4 avant.
Been following Chris for alot of years now :)
Great inspiration and alot of good taste in this B5.
Thanks for the B5 love Winding Road Magazine :)
Keep up the good work Chris :)
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Audi build quality on the bodies is top notch. I owned 20 year old Audi’s in perfect shape Paint and body wise.

That steering wheel... Awesome fitment 😍
I used to have a 1999 B5 A4. Not exactly the same car but this brings back memories
Does b5 stand for 5 cyl?
+Ayyy Lmfao nope b5 stands for the generation of that model :)

***** True. I liked all the older Audi designs. Too bad that most of them are in junkyards and salvage lots low....
***** My B5 went to the junkyard as well. Deep down, I knew something was wrong with the oil pump..I should have had it looked at while I still had the chance. Would have saved myself a lot of heartbreak. Oh well, ya live and ya learn..
god i miss mine. always saw your ride chris on audizine. props
Thanks man!
never read a comment someone saying they don't miss there's. even though I am broke because mine I know it's temporary and holding on to it will be worth it.
Wow just beautiful and amazing performance machine
For more videos on this S4 check out Chris's channel here: ua-cam.com/users/ChrisOstberg
Thanks Winding Road!
Chris O what wheels are those?
Which Steering wheel did you put in your car?
Those are B7 S4 stock wheels.
I really love modifications like this on cars. Nice and clean, nothing flashy.
Do the buttons on that newer steering wheel work by the way?
The buttons aren't hooked up. Someday I might try to make them works.
That is the cleanest b5 s4 I've ever heard

sweet ride man, are you running stock internals?
I like the guy doing a wheelie,... and the s4
What suspension are you running, and how much is it lowered in this video?
I never see any V8 S4s... Do people not like them? Or are the V6 TTs that much better?
not many mods available and let's not talk about the timing chains either.....
EminentLine. Yea since it went to timing chains went to the back of the engine it's a maintenance nightmare. If you want a v8 get a A6 wide body and they have timing belts but it's mounted on the front end. I you got the money Forced induction is the way to go.
really love this car nice review
My nogaro blue has 270.000km and still running nice. When the engine is dead I will upgrade to 3lt with big turbo kit.

Tubeviewer modified B8.5 S4 wheel
awesome review. constructive criticism would be not to take both hands off the wheel while the owner is sat next to you in the passenger seat. that would annoy me if this was my car.

The wheel is custom - the base wheel is from a B8 S4. Nexon Motors then reduces the diameter and makes the rim thicker...and of course adds the carbon.
The airbag should be functional.
Chris O does the steering wheel controls work? I am thinking of buying a B5 A4 1.8T and I want to do a steering wheel swap like yours.
Weren't there frankens on this at one point?
Hey , how long have you been working on your Audi , the car is sweet Makes me have faith in the older s4.
Started modifying it in 2003. Thanks!
What a gorgeous Noggy S4. I've always wanted a B5 of my own, yours is a exactly how I'd imagine mind. They're hard to find in this kind of condition here in NY.
Which audi wheels are these? Looking for a set for my B5 S4 wagon

How much money was spent for the modifications from stock? I was looking for an S4 since I'm getting rid of my '08 528 soon...
Hard to say, but to build something similar yourself you'd probably spend $15k-$20k in modifications.
Chris O ouch lol
The car looks insanely similar to mine
Did you see the wheelie?? 2:18
3:11 even rally?
Very nice..
Ваша машина на драйве?)
