Old age has the advantage that I got to hear all three of them live in the various bands from The Move, to ELO and Wizzard. Only shame is they did not stay together.
Individually, they were both spectacularly talented. Together, they would have been unstoppable. I love Jeff's voice; Roy's was one of the greatest in rock history.
This song was the first I heard from the Move back in the day and I really liked it. It must have also been one of their last before ELO was formed. They are a bunch of excellent musicians, which seemed to be par for the course in the UK in those days with so many great and innovative bands emerging all within a short period of time.
Trevor Burton and Ace Kefford are still alive and they founded the Move inviting Bev Bevan,Roy Wood & Carl Wayne to join them in a Brum Supergroup after a chat with David Bowie in a Birmingham Nightclub.
@@brigader4heart272 Yes, it was the Cedar Club in 1965, it was before he became David Bowie, the was performing at the club as Davy Jones and the Lower Third. He changed his name to David Bowie in January 1966 to avoid being confused with Davy Jones who was in The Monkees.

I have seen both live too! For some reason the Wizzard concert was horrible. They came out unprepared and obviously had been partaking in Adult beverages (or worse). After about 30 minutes they were done.... Luckily, the supporting band was good so it wasn't a bad night. I saw the Kinks too and Ray and Dave were on top form, great concert!
The 10538 overture for me was their finest piece in these early days though directly after when wood decided to create the electric light orchestra. Yes, the ELO project was Roy woods idea where Jeff Lynne had inherited it from to then continue with its evolving into music on a much broader spectrum and on a much wider front and audience.
I've loved this ever since it came out. How can anyone who loves pop Rock not want to dance when this comes on? Boy does Jeff Lynne look so young (which he was of course). I'd love to see them together. Message From The Country is a classic..
Jeff Lynne is still rocking big in America this 2024....all in a position to go and see this brilliant Musician live...go go... and here where it all started....The Move... Carl Wayne......... and Roy Wood...Drums Bev Bevan .....Brilliant music from the Sixties forward....The Real Great Britain ❤❤😊🎉🎉
The Move had great songs. Vastly underrated as a group, as is Roy Wood as a composer. Could you imagine anyone today getting anywhere near his musical output. No.
Brilliant clip of one of The Move's most underrated songs. I agree with the comment below that Roy and Jeff's voices were indistinguishable at this point - in fact I never realised Jeff Lynne took the last verse until I watched this clip and I've loved this song for years. Seeing it now, you can see why they amicably parted - Lynne was young and ambitious with ideas of his own while Roy Wood was already a well established songwriter/frontman who wouldn't be handing over the reins to anyone soon. I wonder how long Bev Bevan took to make his choice when the split came? History proves that (financially at least) he made a shrewd move!
I went to see Bev Bevan and his band last night [18/9]. It was a brilliant night...Bev is still a fantastic drummer. They sang a mix of Move, Black Sabbath,ELO and Beatles songs and others too. They were very accomplished. I met Bev after the show and shook one of those magical hands! I gave him portrait I had drawn of him and talked a short while. He signed my Discovery album and gave me a kiss on the cheek...I went home very happy!
Nice story except why would you buy the Discovery album? What a piece of rubbish. If you had said Eldorado, Face the Music, A New World Record, Out of the Blue, or even On the Third Day I would have been impressed but not Discovery. I would be embarrassed to own the album that contains The Diary of Horace Wimp.
@@glenbard657 I have all those albums too and every album they have recorded since 1971, when it was just Jeff, Roy and Bev in ELO. Saturday 29th May 1971...the day I fell in love with Jeff Lynne he was just a baby and so was I... that cheeky smile, the cute nose and that wonderful cloud of hair, yep that was me sold!
Hello again......So you were mad over Jeff and I was mad over Bev!!! And you actually got to meet Bev.....WOW!!! Gorgeous Bev and those eyes and cute dimples and smile....actually the face...LOL!!!
Hi Donna!! Yep I got to meet Bev and also met Roy Wood in December, he is the other singer in this group. Managed to meet them both through my artwork [I went with portraits] after their gigs. Now working on meeting Jeff, not so easy because he lives in LA and plays very large arenas if he comes to England...but I'm not giving up!! I have so many portraits of him I need more space!!
LOL!!!! I live in the United States and probably have a better chance at meeting Jeff than Bev......but, one day I'm taking a trip to England going to get me a ticket to his show and hopefully get him to sign my ELO book that he wrote.....or I have 4 vinyl albums from the 70's. Maybe he will talk to me for a few minutes....after all I have waited for 42 years to just meet him.....I was 17 years old in 1975 when I saw his gorgeous self!!!

Maybe even talk for a few minutes.....Luke is he our only grandchild!! I tried to get Lindsay to name him Bev....she said no!! HA
Great song! Reminds me of my youth, in Gateshead, County Durham. Having said that....If my ex mother-in-law, from Grand Junction, Colorado was singing.."I'll be over tonight!" I would be taking the first stagecoach out of Dodge City.
First heard this on a Sunday whilst the Top 40 was on the radio whilst my mum did the ironing in the kitchen. I was probably playing in the garden out the door.
I thought it was an LWT production because of the white background (like on Who Do You Do?) and the frame at the back where people sat (like on Supersonic).
I read he began wearing the shades after his Mother told him he looked tired in an interview she saw.... and I think he's gorgeous, with or without the shades!!!
The fab Roy Wood. ❤
Two of the greatest British musicians and composers / songwriters right there.
Bev Roy and Jeff together were a supergroup. Great song
The more i listen to todays music the more i realize how great music of the pas was.
50 years old and still better than the top 100 in most countries.
When we see record shops and go in for a look around we do not look at Modern music but go straight for 60-70s LPs
Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne two of the best performers and singers ever
Roy Wood is class!
Absolutely class

Two alphas. Almost never works. Some exceptions, though. Stones. The Who. Queen would’ve.
Oh man I'm young tbh in the terms of this era but the move Roy wood to me is royalty
Before Roy was more or less pushed out of his own band.

Actually ELO and The Move were parallel for a while. They didnt stop The Move to form ELO.
After this they had 2 more hits Chinatown and California man ,
Infatti nelle stesse trasmissioni in un' unica puntata, si esibivano sia come Move, sia come ELO
What an awesome time to be alive.

Wood and Lynne, what a talented pair of musicians.
Don't forget drummer Bev Bevan who played for The Move (1966-1972) and was a founding member and long time drummer for ELO (1972-1986)

Very well summed up
