    Fuck I love this channel. I use to do a lot of barefoot running and still use my FiveFingers from time to time. Great to see you mention the part about taking it slow. It took me about 2 years for my ankles and calves to adjust but the end result was no more shin splints. Nice work team.

    You two are some of the good persons in Life - fantastic effort from you both to share your skills, your expertise, your knowledge and best of all - your passion for what you do so professionally as advocates for all of us who hunt and/or trap. Don’t ever lose the love and respect that it’s so clear you have for each other and for the gift of Life we have to enjoy out in the bush deep in nature at its most rugged - greatest respect to a young couple absolutely earning a living the hard way - old fashioned principles of work combined with love and respect for the bush
    For the nay-sayers, people like yourselves aren’t into eradicating any possum or other species; but your contribution to the effective management and control of the browsing damage done by marsupials when population imbalance occurs just can’t be measured it’s so significant !!
    Thank you again for sharing
    From a serious hunter across the ditch in sunny Tasmania - you gave me such fond memories of what my father and grand dad did to supplement their living back in the sixties and seventies (when I was but a wee possum :) skinning and drying out high quality possum furs - when the market paid what you guys deserve for your efforts and commitment
    Take best care of yourselves & each other
    Cheers Tony

      I used to use the dive/wetsuit boots a lot for hunting in lowland flats on the eastern side of fiordland in the hauroko monowai manapouri area about 20 years ago....best ones i found where the type that has the big toe separate from the others....

    Dont know if this is a frequently asked question, but I noticed a bolo machete on one vid. So what do you guys mostly take into the bush for clearing tracks,doing firewood and other shit? do you prefer an axe, a long machete or short heavy machete? What is your preference being in the bush so much? NZ bush is so varied, I can go through massive podocarp woods, thick wet bush with supple jack vines everywhere, and open manuka country all in one day.

  • @chrismooney6955
    @chrismooney6955 5 років тому

    That Chris Mooney is an egg, back in the day we used to wear spring suits, half wet suits when it was cold, to keep our core warm, and dive boots, if they are good in the sea then on land as long as you are not in a big hurry, very good.

    Would love it if you did a gear video, that pot within a pot that Shay cooks with, how's that work and why you do it like that? Gathered he's rifle is a Ruger 243, what ammo does he use for deer? How many grains and what sort of projectile?
    What knives does Shay use? Notice what looks like a Swiss army knife and some sort of boning knife, Victorinox as well?
    Love all your videos from Aus, missus is a Kiwi, trying to convince her to move back hahaha
    Keep up the awesome videos

      hi I cant answer for KIW becuase he is one fit as dude but to be a full time trapper ($50,000.00 +) you need somewhere that hasn't been trapped by experienced trappers and is native as beside pines the prime spot. These day there are very few trappers making a full time living. The life style is the most awsome ....no roudy noise (quad in the pines maybe) . If you are a trapper be like KIW have a good missus that brings in a crust as well because some weeks you'll need it as the weather gods play havic with baits. My apologies KIW for poking my nose in. Love your vids keep em coming us old trappers thoroughly enjoy seeing young fit fella's pumping.

    Good video, thanks for the answers. Just two questions about Shay's jacket/vest. Doesn't he get hot with that on, or does the possum fur regulate his body temperature? 2nd isn't it a bit risky wearing fur in the bush with other hunters around? Will be grateful for your replies.

    Thank you for this Q&A ! I trap fur here in the states mainly fox, coyotes and cats .. I enjoy it more than anything if you asked my partner she would tell you I love trapping more than her .. . My. Old man says “hope springs eternal in the hart of a trapper “ My mom divorced my old man because he would. Go To the mountain trapping and. Only come back for supply’s .. she got tired of it and left .... I don’t blame him... it’s a simple life...
