Today we're playing more Marvel vs Capcom 2 on NullDC BEAR! I made it my mission to improve my Sentinel gameplay, and I think I learned a lot along the way! Today I'm going to be showing you some of the glitches and techniques that pro Sentinel players use to make this character TRULY broken. Hope you enjoy the tech video and the matches!

To be fair this isn't a normal sentinel but its an inaccurately scaled version of the sentinel that creates more sentinel so not only is there more than one (drones) but its also kinda buff 😎👉👉

I always wish they made this specific Sentinel an actual comic character. Just think that somewhere out there, in the sea of jobber and easily trashed Sentinel robots exists the dreaded COTA-94 model who completely fucks mutants up without mercy.
I used to think that was the case when i was a kid, I always thought it'd be a doper idea
I always imagine that would be the case if sentinels had "Field Commander" squad/company units...But that would require installing adaptive-learning AI to enhanced communication and power-source units to...and we all know how that would end up.

If they made a new MVC game and put Sentinel in it should be Nimrod. Nimrod is basically the ultimate mutant killing model of Sentinel.

Sentinel is deadass like a boss character in this game. And I love to use it.
It's like he's the sub boss of the game before Abyss alongside Magneto and Storm.
X-Men characters were so busted.

Unblockable low beam setups invalidating 3/4th of the roster is also pretty OP.
Possibly the trickiest meaty in all of fighting games.
To be fair Omega Red can beat 2/3rds of the cats by spamming jumping hard punch in while superjumping
Yeah, devs must've been overworked when doing Sentinel- they let so much slip through the cracks. If the game was out today, he would've been patched within the first few weeks of release lol.
It's not just Sentinel - MvC2 has more glitches than it has characters.
@@coreypatterson5827Not just glitches, but pure oversight and disparity.
Some characters were nerfed purposely, like Strider and Wolverine, although Strider got re-purposed into a viable choice by people like Clockwork by making him a tandem with Doom.
Others got nerfed simply because they were just dropped into the engine with no work done to make them compatible with the engine ie Chun Li. These types of characters have moves that just don't work as well as they did previously, such as Chun's legs super not being able to combo without an assist due to the start-up being longer or the screen freeze being shorter. We know they really didn't care about the ramifications of dumping sprites into the game without proper tooling because of how much time they spent on the new characters, specifically Cable, and his 1 frame AHVB.
They even took out her air super, meaning they ACTUALLY HAD TO LOOK AT HER FILES, but just didn't want to do any real work. Same case with most of the non Marvel cast and Sabertooth.

Sentinal looks absolutely obnoxious in this game, wow. Just constantly shoving boots in your face at a diagonal above you.
kind of like a character in MvC3 that rhymes with boctor boom or something like that.

Long story short, This Sentinel is missing a TON of frames and animations that this sprite had in COTA. MVC2's lazy programming is to blame.
That lazy programming led to one of the most iconic fighting game characters in the whole genre. Sometimes you just trip and fall unto greatness.

The fact that most of them are straight garbage led to Sentinel being this revered. Don't know if you were around for it, but NOBODY played this character in COTA.

Yeah I watched a COTA match other day I'm like oh yeah!
After all these years, the 'unflight action mode' was a surprise to me. MvC2 is a Field of Study at this point.
mvc2 really boils down to its own science/academic or whatever due to how intricate, technical, and in-depth not only the combo system is, but the entire game
Sentinel welcomed me to Marvel as he was my very first online fighting game experience,got bodied every single time and I couldn't see 80% of my character because of that flight mechanic.
10/10 Would fight him again.
He flies, can defeat the one exploitable weakness of his flight through a glitch, has massive reach, chip damage on normal hits, projectiles that cover the stage and can combo into and out of supers, a hit of super armor and can cover the arena faster than characters half his size...and that's WITHOUT assists from his team. He has literally everything.
Is it any wonder you can't turn around without seeing him in a match? How he's not banned from more tournaments is beyond me. He's the Shin Akuma of MVC2.
Because its a team fighting game you can outplay the opponent with other characters. Not saying hes not broken but theres always a chance with assist
He's not banned because people play MvC2 specifically FOR broken characters like Sentinel. If you want a polished, balanced fighting game experience then why hell are you playing Marvel?
@@Kanelel I'm not. I stopped years ago when I started seeing Sentinel in literally every single matchup. The reason most people play sentinel is because they know their opponents will; if they don't play him, they are at an overwhelming disadvantage. Most people play him because they MUST.
@@therealbahamut Hes technically better in Marvel 3 in every way but health but hes still another good character because they gave options to everyone else. Sentinel is great because most of the Marvel 2 cast is limited and not able to combo into a super on their own but even then hes not Shin Akuma. Anyone any good at fighting games knows the difference.Bnetween really good and broken

I think it would be cool to see you explain the characters base gameplan in vanilla, then explain the competitive glitches and exploits that push him to the next level
I love how you didn't even have time to talk about like half the reasons Sentinel is insane in this game. Chip damage on all his normals, insanely busted damage scaling, unblockable mouth beam, the list goes on.
No wonder they call MvC3 Sentinel Wackbot lol

he did talk about chip normals but yeah not the other stuff. I need to pick up marvel, it looks so fun but it's insanely fast and there's all kinds of BS mix and setups in it, even battle for the grid gets overwhelming at time and this is just on a different level.
@@RandoBox Yeah when timed right the low mouth beam is unblockable.
@@RandoBox The way I understand it is that if your opponent blocks only the very last frame or two of the mouth beam, it's unblockable. So basically you can set up situations where you knock the opponent down and throw out a mouth beam while they're in recovery frames so they only get hit by the last couple frames of the move. Not easy, but the best players know how to do it pretty reliably.
When the mouth beam is unblockable, sometimes it hits twice. THAT SHIT HURTS YO.
I don't know how difficult it is to include the twitch chat in your yt uploads, but a lot of mvc2 og's have been dropping knowledge during them and it would be great if they could be preserved.
Dude you exposed something to me that I have been curious about for years. I only brushed on this game as mvc3 and sf4 were coming out before I started playing seriously. This information is gold; thank you so much for this wealth of knowledge.

i remember being overkilled by my brother using sentinel, magneto and storm i never understand the background of it since i was a teenager, now you came with a good explanation, never had a chance against my brother hahaha,if i was able to escape the ground combo he always find me in mid-air to lock it with the aerial combo and finisher

I've always been interested in MVC2 i played it on the xbox when i was a kid and i've watched a decent amount of it but i still dont understand why certain characters are so op and why others are not.

I used to own this on dreamcast but i was in 8th grade and i never got good. Thanks for sharing the tech. I've been reading up on this game and watching vids of jwonggg. I finally got this game to work on Fightcade2 so MvC2 and CvS2 are just like new for me especially since I picked up stick a few years ago. Great fighting game videos dude. Much love and respect to all my fellow fighting game fans!
i have no idea what’s going on when the game starts
it's one of those games that has a bunch of layers you have to learn in succession to get to the level of "passable". and all the layers aren't spelled out explicitly somewhere. dreamcancel has a good guide on the basics but you have to learn the layers of exploits that were not intended by the devs that exist beyond that and those layers go from somewhat obscure to "only justin wong knows". if you want to be good. sounds like it's not worth the trouble but it's not as hard to learn when you just start doing it and when you start actually being able to do terrible versions of the stuff good players can do it becomes really addicting. it also helps you to be good at a bunch of other fighting games. if youre good at mvc2 your good at fighing games in general.

22 seconds in and this guy is the Goat. Straight just told me how to get and play one of the greatest fighting games of all time. I didn't have to lose brain cells hearing him ramble on and I still have plenty of time to stay young and strong. Plenty of time to play this game. I knew there was a reason why I kept toning. The first video I watch of you was the break down of EHonda vs DJ. Never got a chance to actually be good at the game sense I was just a child but watching you explain the grabs and techniques just made that fight so much better and exciting to watch. I felt like I had been playing the game for years. If I'm not subscribed yet I am now

I don’t know if he mentioned this but sentinel can absorb like 140% damage (please correct me if the exact number is wrong) compared to a normal character taking a hit. So it’s like having a character and a half.
A lot of reasons. Super armor, super strength, flight mode + good aaa, etc.

You also forgot about Sentinel's Unblockable. The ducking hp if you can make the thick outer portion miss but the inner portion hit, the inner portion will not be unblock able. There's a way to defeat it with some characters, like blocking 1 frame before the beam touches you. This allows you to conserve your guaranteed guard frames allowing you to block it, but some characters [Psylocke for example] can't use this defense at all. This can be done when a character falls in from the side of the screen, after falling from a super-jump, and after a hard knockdown in a combo allowing you to reset the damage possibly killing the character.

Watching these glitches and tricks, I feel like Sentinel retroactively created the “Wait, that’s illegal” meme.
I wasn't even watching live and I got excited about timer bets
We used to play like this to add depth so it wasn't always an MSS mirror match:
2 bans each. No one picks those characters. P1 bans once. P2 bans twice. Then P1 does second ban.
No dupes in character select, so once a character is picked they can't be on the other team (or same team if you were on Dreamcast).
P1 picks 1
P2 picks 1 and 2
P1 picks 2 and 3
P2 picks 3
You got some really varied teams that way and needed a deep roster. The last person to win was P1, not always the P1 slot.
You could skip the ban phase if you wanted top tiers, since it was pretty much always MSSC that got banned in my town.

Oh good ol mvc2 and sentinal's galore! Also, did you know he has a cross up with his mouth laser move? if you time it right when someone comes in or on wake up, it you time it where it hits almost at the end of its hit animation, it will cross up.
Sentinel was always my anti-spiderman go to.

2:37 ish: _If you input a direction and an attack at the same time then you can cancel the startup frames of the flight mode and combo with this kick that you normally wouldn't be able to combo out of._
If there was a modern re-release of MvC2, and unintended glitches like this were fixed, would that be considered a good thing or a bad thing? Personally, I'd want awkward glitches to be fixed, but I can imagine that there would be at least some people who consider glitches that are consistent to be a good thing that shouldn't be fixed. I'm curious about what the community thinks about this.

All you have to do to get unfly is get hit during a normal jump (or after cancelling flight).
Also I think the unblockable c.hp on the incoming character is OD but maybe that's just me

I miss those days...no nerfs, no buffs...it was what it was. We labbed and found ways to defeat those characters that were considered "broken."
I hate that i got into fighting games during this era. People spend more time crying for nerfs than labbing ways to defeat OP moves or characters.
Did you not mentioned unblockable and DHC of death? These are relatively easier things to do than all the fly options and are actually more deadly. Also, the super armor makes it harder for rush down characters to successfully connect. Its also easy to do guard breaks using fast fly. And the biggest strength with sentinel is the fly speed where when just flying up and backwards, 90% of the cast cannot catch sentinel. With long range and highest damage normals in the game, sentinel can play air footsie with assist support, making him extremely dangerous in the air than on the ground.
