House of the Dragon: Kinslaying in Westeros - Aemond & Luke, Rhaenyra & Jaehaerys, Cargyll Twins. Link to original archived GRRM Q&A from 2001: www.westeros.org/Citadel/SSM/...
Forgive the semantics, but I’m pretty sure kinslaying requires homicide of those who share your name & blood BY YOUR OWN HAND. Lords literally have hired assassins or employed champions in this mythology, explicitly to avoid kinslaying. It’s considered a most damnable act.
History is always written by the Winner, Rhaenyra's line may have sat the throne in the end but the Maester's and Hightower's where still powerful and in every city and castle in Westeros while Aegon was but a child and no adult Black loyalist aside from Cregan was really in a position of power and even then he returned to the North
Rickard Karstark did that to give Robb extra insulted; just get into his head even more.
Well with rob his great something grandfather (Cregan on the hotd show son Brandon who succeeds him) married a Karstark so it hasn’t been a thousand years but it’s been a few generations
Better question would be Why Aemond and not DAEMON
A son for a son:
Who could be the son killed in response to Luke’s death:
Aegon: protected by Ser Arryk and has his friends: Ser Martyn Reyne, Ser Eddard Waters and Ser Leon Estermont.
Aemond: not in the Red Keep
Daeron: not even in King’s Landing
Jaehaerys: Aegon’s little son
thank you
Historians do not deem Rhaenyra kinslayer because all immediate history works were written during reign of Aegon III.
Inb4 "Maesters were GREEN! Look where CITADEL is!!!!!!!!"
Yeah, Citadel is in Oldtown. That's why they wrote history sympathetic to husbands of Rhaena Targaryen and Samantha Tarly. Post-war Hightowers were pro-Aegon-III
Didn't the crowd call Rhaenyra kinslayer during the procession?
He brought that up at 4:14
well those were Greens.
