I've had to do this like 10 times now and every single time, I have to come back here to remind myself how to do it. I don't see why not just select the white part and delete it? Is transparency not the "default" background if nothing's there? 'Cause it should be.
5 minutes video but I learnt what I wanted in 1:35 and created the image I wanted, shared it and came back and saw the rest of it. So simple and helpful. Thanks mate! Subscribing to your channel now! Great job!
seriously, you really help me with the tutorial! i never used photoshop before, and suddenly I was asked to create a logo, and i found your tutorial. thank you so much!
Here's some tips: Make sure you save your file in a format that supports transparency like .png. .jpg for instance does NOT support transparency. Also you can skip the step of making a double layer by just double clicking the lock icon on the original layer, unlocking it, then editing it that way.
I can't thank you enough!!! I have listened to a bunch of tutorials that may as well to have been in Chinese for all they meant to me. I could follow this and it worked the very first time!!! Yay!!!
Thank you so much! I was getting so frustrated, and some of these other people go on rabbit trails that drive me nuts! You are straight to the point! I really appreciate that!
The newest iterations of PS actually show you the "Fill" box when you hit delete... it's frustrating, because there are no transparency options in there.
Double That is because you're not in a document with a transparent background, but you're editting the source file. Just copy it to a new document and remove the background there.
Don't listen to those Jack-ass's, this was not intended for the advanced user, it accomplished the task of showing how to remove a white background. You can either use the tutorial or don't, no ones twisting your arm. Job well done and we appreciate the time you took to help the beginner.
Im looking for the way where u change white value into a transparency value so it even affects color pixels whiteness on edges with partial transparency.
design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/quick-tip-remove-the-white-background-from-line-art-in-adobe-photoshop--cms-24361 professional method down bottom, though only black and white, is it possible with color?
Oh my goodness THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! I have scoured you tube files looking for this exact thing! You solved my issue simply and quickly! I work for my church and no one has our logo on a transparent background....UNTIL NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You've gotta be kidding. This is like the worst way to "remove a white background" and only works on the very easiest images. This is not how to "remove a white background" it's using the wand tool to select and erase any color and leaving behind remnants of white pixels everywhere at the outline.
Kutsal Kaynak It involves using channels and loading selections into a new layer. Too advanced to get into here, but the video poster's "solution" only works in the absolute easiest situations, ie. a big blue bird with a very simple and clear outline. The minute someone tries to use this technique on anything else besides such an object, it's going to fail, and they'll be on their way searching for a real way to do this, having first wasted their time here.
TheBombBros1000 Lots of colors contrast the background for which this technique won't work DUMBASS. It's not about the color, it's about the contour and complexity of the thing being selected DUMBASS. It's about whether there's aliasing along the edge DUMBASS. Attempt to get a clue before you pretend to know what you're talking about.
I'm not a graphic designer by any means, just trying to make a couple t-shirts for myself and all of this is too complicated, so thank YOU for making this easy :)
Thank you so much for teaching how to SAVE the file. Of all the videos I've watched on this, yours is the only one to mention that. Without doing that, it doesn't work! Thank you!
+Turtle Kampel when altering an image in photoshop, the background is static. Meaning it cannot be edited, you have to create a copy or layer via background, this will add a copy or make your background into something that can be edited. Hope I answered your question!
I keep coming back to this tutorial every now and then. It's very helpful, especially since I'm not as good at Photoshop as I used to be with Paint Shop Pro years ago. Great video!
I do not know anything about photoshop but I had to do some work on it and that was so important for me. I searched several videos but no success. Sudden once a day I came on this video and my problem resolved. If will talk for other videos, all the steps are not so clear even they skip some steps to let us know. But in this video everything is very clear and step by step with two scenarios. Really awesome keep it up dude! Thanks for this video!!!
Hello . . . I appreciate your efforts; but, it is obvious that you have used photoshop extensively, because you can't understand what it is to TEACH simple processes; for example, my younger brother is one of the best guitar players I have ever seen in person . . . yet, he has a hard time teaching and understanding how to start at the basics. You say that it is good to do this or that, but you don't describe every step. . . step by step, for example in this post, you say you double check your background image by creating a gray box . . . but you don't show how to do that, you just clicked on---I suppose---the ARROW and held it down and just moved it around your image . . . but that's not what you discribed...step by step; or, perhaps your teaching is for those who know photoshop better than I do . .. =0)
Hi Devin, see this link ( ua-cam.com/video/SBgAPCKOfIU/v-deo.html ) I think you can get help ............. this is best background remove Tutorial. thanks you
Thank you, thank you, thank you. A clear cut description that made a complicated procedure (changing a white background in an existing graphic to a transparent background) simple and easy to follow. And, best of all -- it worked!
OMG. Thank you!!!! It's been a very very long time since I used photoshop and I couldn't remember how to remove the white background without using the lasso tool. Saved me so much time, thank you, thank you, thank you!!

This was absolutely fantastic! After trying to attempt on preview on my Mac to make my logo transparent which looked terrible. I stumbled onto your help with photoshop.. I've only just registered and it's boggling trying to configure what everything does. I ended up doing a great job thanks to your help! Thank you so much for this information. So valuable!
Excellent video. I searched several channels to find a quick, yet thorough explanation of this technique and you nailed it. I'm working the Photoshop CC and searched how to get the magic wand tool and Save for Web (under File > Export) functions.
thanks so much. brand new to photoshop and just designed a logo for my website. was having a nightmare with that god awful white background and now its all fixed :D thanks.
Just commenting on this now, as do a bit of web design and needed to transform a friends logo with a transparent background- this was by far the best & simple tutorial! Thank you for this friend! P.s anybody using a Mac- to get the magic wand tool just use 'shift+w' when you have the quick select tool selected. Right click did not work for me- but seemed to be the only way to have it appear!
After three tutorials I've watched.. You're the first one that taught me how to save without white background... thanks a lot! Because it's a detail that not a lot of people think of! Great video !
Excellent tutorial, I did watch couple of video's on youtube on how to remove the background of a logo but i was unable to do it. After watching this tutorial i could easily remove it. great,Thank you.
Ahhhhh thank you!! I did not have an issue with my background before. Last night I was just highlighting and deleting and the background went away no problem. Today I could not get it to not be white. This helped, but still not sure why it stopped working in the first place!
6 years later and this explains more in 5 min than 5 hours watching other vids. thank you i owe you a beer
Watched 5 videos on this procedure. Yours was the best and easiest and simplest to follow. Now I am an expert! Thanks man!
I've had to do this like 10 times now and every single time, I have to come back here to remind myself how to do it. I don't see why not just select the white part and delete it? Is transparency not the "default" background if nothing's there? 'Cause it should be.

bob jones Do you have a better way? If so please be constructive and share with us instead of wasting your time in a petty argument.
Terrie-ann Easley I've already mentioned the better way. I obviously cannot explain the entire process here.
Thanks Joe, I think that this is the best tutorial on the web that describes how to make the background transparent.
Thanks a lot dude, I'm into printing my own shirts (with my favorite designs) which helped a lot !
Nice profile pic lol
I'm not a graphic designer by any means, just trying to make a couple t-shirts for myself and all of this is too complicated, so thank YOU for making this easy :)
When did heaven come to earth because I can feel it right now.
Thanks Jo, 28 years in print and I've just learnt from your tutorial!
After Such a hustle i found your video which made my work easy thanks mate i really mean it THANK YOU for making this video :)
Thank you so much for teaching how to SAVE the file. Of all the videos I've watched on this, yours is the only one to mention that. Without doing that, it doesn't work! Thank you!
the moment when you realise the only thing you'd been doing wrong was saving as the wrong image type....
me too omg, i was struggling so bad
I figured it out on accident. I felt so stupid
Yes, must be a PNG file, not a jpg or it won't hold the background as transparency!
Oh my god
..i have been wrong all this time..
Thanks
Praise God for people who make life simple! Thank you!!!!!
what is the purpose of making a copy?
+Turtle Kampel i was wondering aswell
+Turtle Kampel when altering an image in photoshop, the background is static. Meaning it cannot be edited, you have to create a copy or layer via background, this will add a copy or make your background into something that can be edited. Hope I answered your question!
+Nugua Plays! ok I always just double click to make it a layer.... THANKS ... I was so confused!
+Turtle Kampel You don't have to make a copy of it. You can easily just click the lock on the image layer and the layer is editable.
I keep coming back to this tutorial every now and then. It's very helpful, especially since I'm not as good at Photoshop as I used to be with Paint Shop Pro years ago. Great video!
When I hit delete, it doesn't do that, it brings up a box with options like "50% grey", not an option for transparency... fml
+Zack Walker (JapaneseLearning101) same here thats why I looked it up. You figure it out yet?????
+Zack Walker (JapaneseLearning101) Nevermind actually I figured it out. select area you want to delete. then edit, and clear
+Zack Walker (JapaneseLearning101) make sure its a ping file also
for me, it was because I didn't make new layer
Just unlock the picture
