John Silver has been my number one guy from day one. But this episode just widened the margin exponentially!! "My name is John Silver, and I've got a long fucking memory!" Ugh, chills!!! Every. Single. Time!! Aside from him, I love what Vane, Anne and Flint can accomplish when they work together. Just. Ugh. I love this episode!!!
S3 Governor Rogers: "but if you insist upon making me your villain, I'll play the part." S2 Flint: “Everyone is a monster to someone. Since you are so convinced that I am yours. I will be it.” They are very much two sides of a coin. Demonstrating service to England benefiting one and cursing another. Perhaps in another life, Flint would still be James McGraw, and would more closely reflect the governor we see now. Curious, brilliant and creative allusion. A show can say so much with clever writing and deep insight by assuming they don't need to spell everything out for the audience.
I think the difference between what Woodes Rogers is doing versus what Thomas and Flint wanted is intent. Thomas saw a system that failed people and turned them towards piracy and wanted to correct those wrongs. He was an idealist whereas Rogers is an opportunist that sees the pardons as an easy way to control Nassau and further himself.
This is a really good episode, showing exactly where each side stands right now and what their goals are. And even though im on Flint's side obviously, i still like Woods Rogers. The scene between those two and Silver saying the line after stomping Dufresne's head were definitely the highlights. You could see it hurt like hell doing that but he had to keep appearances.
John went hard in this, it totally reminded me of Ivar's "you can't kill me" moment in terms of it's epicness (that's a word, right?). But that was a boss move by Rogers tho, he not only denied Flint reinforcements but gave them a way out all while showing strength if they chose not to. (And I'm sorry about that weird illness that gives you a British accent, must be rough...)
Watching the first few episodes of the series I never would have believed that Max would be trying to maintain the peace, Vane would be working with Flint, Silver would be the crew's hero and Eleanor Guthrie would be the villain by the end of Season 3. ... BTW, I can't stop smiling when I think about the fact that Lady Clara Paget, an actual English aristocrat, is playing the English-hating pirate Anne Bonny! Too fun.
Silver really took it to another level in this episode. I just love him. This show has so many great characters God. Agreed with the whole Eleonre-Wilson relationship, just feels off to me.
"It makes John Silver a little bit less intimidating..." Sorry, I commented on this back then too but can't help it :) Through the whole series, Silver's arc is the most amazing... and that scene in the inn was just ... wow.
HISTORICAL SPOILER [space] Technically, by the end of season 2, we had entered the last year of the golden age of piracy. Major events take place that are articulated in this show --and this season--which change the course of human history foh-eva.
You should watch HBO miniseries "Chernobyl" (only 5 episodes) it's based on a really event that occurred in the 80s. It really amazing how accurate it was to the real thing. I think anyone that doesn't know about the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster should watch it. You won't be disappointed. 🙂
“John Silver really-“
Oh my god she’s gonna say it she’s gonna say it!
“-stepped up his game”
YAAASSSSS
The truest thing that Jack has ever said. They're all villains in Nassau.

Silvers turning point from a mere man to a legend in this episode was awesome!
