I know this isn't the most well reviewed movie out there but I personally love this movie, love the darker approach and the acting from Johnny Depp was amazing in this movie
This movie is one of my favorite live action Disney films. The cast is just amazing. I love Johnny Depp in this. You should watch the sequel as well, its just as good as this one.
OK I’m here to answer a few of your questions that you have asked during your video. Number one, The reason why the whole atmosphere of this whole thing is dark is not because Tim Burton is uncapable of making bright colorful atmospheres, but it’s because he wanted it to make it look like as if the red queen took over everything so everything went to bad. In the second movie because the red queen is not the queen anymore in the second movie it’s a lot more bright and lovely, I highly suggest you see that movie. Secondly, the reason why it’s not like the original Disney movie is because Tim was trying to make it a lot more like the original book, which in my opinion was a fantastic choice, there was so much that the original Disney movie have left out, that and this time. It’s supposed to be years after she visited wonderland for the first time. Like this would be her second time visiting Wonderland. Which is why a lot of the characters in this movie looked nothing like the original Disney version, he was going for the book version. And just probably my favorite detail of the whole thing is the fact that the people she meets outside of wonderland like the real people were kind of boring at the wedding are supposed to be the counterparts of people in wonderland. The guy that she was going to marry actually supposed to represent the Jabberwocky in the way she defeated it, the two twins are you supposed to be twiddle dee and twiddle dum counterparts, The mother of the guy she was going to marry is supposed to represent the red queen which is why she is so snotty and rude. And the husband of her is supposed to be the counterpart of the blue Caterpillar. Just a lot of details that not a lot of people realize, very much apologize for the long comment
@@bastiaanmoes3344 I think so too, I wasn’t too sure so I didn’t put them on the list. With the (auntie) he was having visions of finding another man, the older woman, was supposed to be the March hare. A little nutty wishing for things that probably won’t come true. And the white queen was supposed to represent her mother, where she does feel bad for Alice but there’s nothing she can actually do to help her
"Perhaps I will see you in another life." That line has so much more meaning now. I like to believe we will see Alan Rickman again in another lifetime.
My dad took me to see this in theaters. I knew the late, great Christopher Lee was the voice of the Jabberwocky, but when his voice rumbled through the theater it still caught me off guard.
Somehow, with the eye stabbing, the river of decapitated heads, and everything else, this movie managed to skirt by with a PG rating. Go figure. But regardless this is still a solid film! Love it just as much as the animated version.
39:24 The Cheshire cat doesn't just vanish and reappear at will. He's also a shape-shifter. The look at his eyes we got before he was "beheaded" was the clue that it wasn't the Hatter.
I highly recommend you watch Alice Through The Looking Glass, it's a sequel. In it they actually do give the white and red queen a back story! They also give Hatter a back story!
I just had a very bad school day, and seeing this video made me feel so much better, this is my favorite movie of all time, I know all of the lines to the queen of hearts. Thank you for making me feel better 😁
as with all burton films, it oozes his personal style all over, interesting, pretty and dark. Unfortunately one of the weaker ones storywise, not sure it quite works as a semi-sequel to the disney animated one. The whole "it was just a dream" was meant to be more ambiguous in the original and in this the time she visited as a child was when she went there in the animated one, with her painting the roses red and having the original tea party etc and wasn't the clearest due to the style and story changes. Also its Helena Bonham Carter that plays the queen/bellatrix ;)
There's something in movies called "Godzilla's Tuna" (if you saw the 90's movie), where a clueless screenwriter who doesn't understand the source material makes up his own "explanation" for something that doesn't need explaining, and then obsessively doubles down on distracting the entire story ABOUT that. Which is why the Carroll-clueless Burton and Linda Woolverton had to devote an entire subplot of screentime and millions of CGI dollars to "Why did the Tenniel-illustrated Queen have such a big head?"
@@ericjanssen394 oh dear the tuna... I still enjoyed the movies but yes, the weird decisions to try and put stuff in that is unneeded like the queen's head stuff in the next one definitely take away from them :(
By the way, the "official" answer to Hatter's riddle about the raven and the writing desk is "Poe wrote on both" (Poe's most famous creation is the poem called The Raven), buuuut there are more answers to it. Oddly enough, at first it was to have no answer at all

The movie is a sequel based off the books. The original Disney movie version left out a lot of details of the books, which doesn't make it a very good sequel as the 2010 movie references more on the books than the 70s version.
Just to answer you're question at around 6:00, you're correct that IS the woman from Harry Potter 4. She plays Olympe Maxime - the teacher from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic - The school Fleur Delacour was from. Oh and the Caterpillar IS Alan Rickman :D

Omg yes, my favourite childhood movie! I hope you see the sequel cause it's also my favourite. Johnny Depp is my favourite celebrity, I hope he can get out of the situation too.
I remember watching this in the cinemas twice in one seating (because it wasn't reserved seating) when I was 13, and wearing a fedora everywhere because of Hatter. 😁 Also, HP actors in Alice In Wonderland: Johnny Depp - Hatter - Grindelwald Helena Bonham Carter - Red Queen - Bellatrix Alan Rickman - Caterpillar - Snape Timothy Spall - Bayard - Wormtail Imelda Staunton - talking red rose - Umbridge Frances de la Tour - Aunt Imogen - Madame Maxime Stephen Fry - Cheshire - HP Audiobook Narrator Not sure if there's anyone else 😅 Also the late Christopher Lee is the Jabberwocky
The red Queen is played by the same actress who did Bellatrix correct. Also can't believe this film is already twelve years old how quickly that time has passed
I love these new Alice movies, they bring such an awesome vibe that only Tim Burton's creative mind is able to deliver us. Cinematography, direction, soundtrack. It is the whole pack
This was always one of my favorites movies, hilarious and beautiful, I loved Helena and Johnny and Alan Rickman's voice for the caterpillar was amazing! I recall when I saw this movie at school with my literature teacher and my whole class, and all the comparisons I had found with the relationship between people and Church in the Middle Age... I was so happy when I saw the notification, because I really really love your reactions! I hope you will react to "Alice through the looking glass" as well ❤
I like this movie, but as a separate work. Something like a mixture of Heart no Kuni no Alice and Corpse Bride. And yes, it seems to me, or is the Hatter like an unused concept for Sweeney Todd?
So this wasn't fully intended to be standalone. It's sorta intended to be a sequel to the animated one (which does follow the book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland). This was more fleshing out the whole world and a lot of the side bits were reference to the books or related writings. Like the gibberish that the Mad Hatter is muttering right before his backstory, "Twas brillig in in the slithy toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe, all mimsy were the borogroves and mome wraths outgrabe", It's the opening stanza and then a few subsequent lines from the poem Jabberwocky. That's where the Jabberwock, the Bandersnatch, the Jubjub Bird (the ostrich thing that got squished by a boulder in the battle), and the Vorpal sword all come from. But this is because I am an Alice nerd. :D Please check out the sequel. It goes more into everyone's background, the queens and the Hatter.
It probably did bad because people compare this to the original 70s version of AiW, but in reality this movie was trying to be a sequel to the original Lewis Caroll books. Which honestly was already a bit dark compared to the Disney version. The original disney movie also didn't include all the things the book had so ot must've been confusing for some people to watch this who never read the books.
@@appleglassjuice11 true, I actually prefer this movie compared to the animated version, and I don't know why it got bad reviews when the book was the one being followed for this one. And in fact, many disney or fairytale animated films that have some source material of some kind have dark themes in them but since its animation, the producers make it more light hearted(like swan lake, little mermaid, cinderella, the nutcracker etc.) which I get why people prefer it more, but I love films who actually take on a little bit of the dark themes from the source material😂
I have actually on the channel haha. Was talking about how his mannerisms are so similar to Edward Scissorhands which makes sense because it’s played by Johnny Depp in both situations. But was just referring to how they have some similarities.
Literally just finished watching day 14 of the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial on youtube and then come here to watch this. It’s so weird and interesting to see Johnny acting in this after watching the trial. Justice for Johnny
I loved this movie as a kid way more than the animated one, the aesthetic was just perfectly unnerving and magical, also this is supposed to be a sequel not a remake
Why haven’t I subscribed to you yet? I love seeing people react to films I have seen. It makes me happy to see them enjoy a film I enjoyed. You got a new subscriber!
Great reaction. I don’t know if you caught onto it but it was similar to Judy Garland’s Wizard of Oz where the characters in the reality reflected a Wonderland character. For example Alice’s mother was Miranna the White Queen, Hamish’s mother was Iracibeth the Red Queen, Hamish was Terrance the Hatter, the Twin Girls were the Tweedles, Aunt Imogene was the March Hare, Alice’s sister was the dog Bayard, and her husband Lowell was Stayne the Knave, and Hamish’s father was Absalom. Other movies like this one where the protagonist was in the magical and when they were younger and then came back as adults that I think you would love is Hook and Dorothy and the Witches of Oz. And I think you’ll love the sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass.
I like this film cuz it implies its somewhat of a sequel. When she’s talking to her dad, her “dream” is the original animated film :) so she’s been to wonderland before :)
This film was shot in standard 2D. However, after the big unveiling of AVATAR it was decided to put this film out in 3D also. There was a new program that could turn it into 3D although not perfectly; one could tell. However, it really added to the dream aspects of the story and made it wonderful.
ahhhh I have a love for this movie so much it was my favorite book growing up tbh also my go to too draw but I got one thing about this film that sort of rubs me the wrong way cause this is technically a sequel but it's not cause everything that happens in through the looking glass minus the mirror bit is in this movie like they even go over the fact she has already been to wonderland 😅
Omg yes! Thank you! I couldnt watch this movie on my tv bc it has HBO max, and it doesnt have this movie sadly, but im so happy someone reviews it. My whole family likes atleast one character from it.
Next to Cinderella, this is among my top Disney live action remakes. Don’t know how many times I watched this movie in middle and high school, and I still draw inspiration from it today.
In the original script for this live action Mad Hatter and Alice were supposed to kiss but it was cut. I would have wanted that to happen bc it’s clear they have something special between them in this 💕
I thought I was the only one who noticed that the Hatter probably feels something for Alice....like....he's reaction at end of both movies, when Alice has to back home....you can tell that he does have some feelings (sorry if I wrote the word wrong) for Alice....at least....in my opinion...I guess my mum was right.... The first time I showed the 2nd film to my mom, at the end she said: "in my opinion the hatter is in love with Alice" or something like that...and I wasn't sure then...but now....I think it may be true.... Pd: omg!!! Really?!?! They were supposed to kiss in the original script?
Totally pleased with this story. Also watched it in 3D. It was converted to 3D after everyone went nuts for Avatar. Was converted via computer programing, so not in Real 3D (shot live on set) giving it the proper look and feel of a dream. Soundtrack is excellent.

The critics criticize this movie for its dark tone and approach, but to me that’s honestly what makes me love this movie. Say what you want, but Tim Burton’s dark style is everything to me.
Love love loveeed this movie, this was the first movie I ever saw in 3D. It was amazing. Also, the lady you're referring to in the beginning who's name you don't know is Helena Bonham Carter 😄
I love this film, the visuals the music- Depp, Helena Bonam Carter, Anne Hathaway, they all crush it. The second movie is great as well. Jonny Depp especially killed The Hatter, while I like the charm and innocence of the animated film, this movie brought so much more mystery and depth to the Hatter that I previously hadn’t even thought about. His character gets even more compelling in the second film- which I actually think is loads better than the first. Contrary to a lot of people’s opinions I like this version of the story better, and I think it’s because I just like darker themes when it comes to fantasy, it makes things more interesting and challenges the characters in exciting ways. I really love the costumes in this movie, they really hit the nail on the head with that.

@@appleglassjuice11 when i say live action movies i mean Disney live action in general.
@@randysmith7045 w-what??
Omg yes, my favourite childhood movie! I hope you see the sequel cause it's also my favourite. Johnny Depp is my favourite celebrity, I hope he can get out of the situation too.
Shout-out to the Avril song written and sang specifically for this movie
Can’t wait to see your reaction to this movie,Nick!
the Jabberwocky was voiced by the late Sir Christopher Lee who played Saruman
Side and VERY important note, Rest in peace Alan Rickman and Barbara Windsor 🌻
I remember watching this in the cinemas twice in one seating (because it wasn't reserved seating) when I was 13, and wearing a fedora everywhere because of Hatter. 😁
Also, HP actors in Alice In Wonderland:
Johnny Depp - Hatter - Grindelwald
Helena Bonham Carter - Red Queen - Bellatrix
Alan Rickman - Caterpillar - Snape
Timothy Spall - Bayard - Wormtail
Imelda Staunton - talking red rose - Umbridge
Frances de la Tour - Aunt Imogen - Madame Maxime
Stephen Fry - Cheshire - HP Audiobook Narrator
Not sure if there's anyone else 😅
Also the late Christopher Lee is the Jabberwocky
The red Queen is played by the same actress who did Bellatrix correct.
Also can't believe this film is already twelve years old how quickly that time has passed
Every new video post makes my day! You’re my favorite reactor on UA-cam, keep up the great work!
Aw thanks so much, glad you like them!
I really like the Bandersnatch, it's one of my favourite fictional animals. So friendly, so soft and you can ride it!
Frances De la Tour plays madame Maxim in Harry Potter as you recognised. yes, Alan Rickman as Absolam is wonderful
I utterly love the way they depicted the Red Queen in this film. Perfect casting, design, tone and actions. She's terrifying yet hilarious!
I love these new Alice movies, they bring such an awesome vibe that only Tim Burton's creative mind is able to deliver us. Cinematography, direction, soundtrack. It is the whole pack
They do a back story of the red and white Queen in the 2nd one. They also do more in depth back story on the mad hatter.
I liked this one. My hand is in my hair, but IM HERE FOR IT!
I hope you will react to "Alice through the looking glass" as well ❤
I just noticed that I have only ever watched this in Spanish never in English 👁️👄👁️also justice for✨ Jonny Depp ✨he the man
I like this movie, but as a separate work.
Yes!! This is great! I had such a good time rewatching this movie with you! It's epic and strange and beautiful! And your reactions were so great! 💕
My favourite Disney live action. I Don't understand why it got such bad reviews.
When you said "he really reminds me of Edward Scissorhands"...my guy, Johnny Depp is Edward Scissorhands! You should watch that movie.
I LOVE this movie! It's one of my favorite live action Disney movies and Danny Elfman's score is just 👌
Watching this movie in 3D at the cinema was quite a treat I tell you
I love this film. Unlike the book, which I cannot enjoy or even finish after years, this film is very enjoyable.
Captain jack sparrow or mad hatter
This one can easily be viewed as a sequel to the original animated one.
I really liked Johnny Depp as the mad hatter, but I first knew him as captain Jack sparrow from pirates of the Caribbean.
I LOVE the darker version of Alice In Wonderland ❤️🔥 Johnny Depp really did The Mad Hatter justice
In the original script the Hatter was supposed to kiss Alice before she left. I am still mad that it didn't happen. That's mah ship😭
YES, FINALLY!!! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS! YOUR REACTIONS ARE TRULY THE BEST!!! 🤩💖
I like this film cuz it implies its somewhat of a sequel. When she’s talking to her dad, her “dream” is the original animated film :) so she’s been to wonderland before :)
idk why i love the cheshire cat so much! i don't think he's evil, but he's not good either. he does things only for his amusement
Tim Burton always has such a fantastic soundtrack in his movies!!!!
0:27 the one that played bellatrix, is Helena bonham carter. In Sweeney Todd she plays mrs lovette
Oooh good choice for your reaction Nick! I really thought that you were going to do Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi today because its Star Wars Day today (May the 4th be with you!) but still great job on your reaction! I did my paper on this movie for my Young Adult Literature class (we were discussing the hero’s journey as our first unit) and it came out really well! Can’t wait for you to react to the sequel as well!
Was planning on doing that actually haha, been a little sick past few days so couldn’t record it in time, but hope to have it out soon!
@@nickflix8657 I can’t wait to see your reaction for Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi! Also can’t wait for the next surprise movie! Also sorry to hear that you were a little sick the past few days…
THE BEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD
Red queen and white queen’s backstories are explored in the sequel. You should check it out also
the actor who made aunt Imogene also made madam Maxime in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
An amazing version of Alice is the one Hallmark did, with such a STACKED cast (Martin Short, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Kingsley, Robbie Coltrane, Miranda Richardson, George Wendt, and more!)
That lady with the fan is the teacher from Harry Potter and the goblet of fire

I think you'll get a kick out of this:
There is actually an answer to, "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
"Because it can produce a few notes, however flat; and it's NEVAR with the wrong end in front."
I absolutely love watching your reactions! You were just like me I cry like every single movie. I wish I could just sit there and watch them with you.!!
A raven is like a writing desk because Edgar Allan Poe "wrote on" both.
The critics criticize this movie for its dark tone and approach, but to me that’s honestly what makes me love this movie. Say what you want, but Tim Burton’s dark style is everything to me.
I love how Cheshire keeps trying to take hatters hat😂
I always forget how much I love this movie until I watch it again
I💜 This Movie (Thought the cartoon is a classic!)Helena Boheim Carter (Belatrix)was Partner Tim Burton's and is Mother of his children!🤗🥰🙆🧚💃
Love love loveeed this movie, this was the first movie I ever saw in 3D. It was amazing. Also, the lady you're referring to in the beginning who's name you don't know is Helena Bonham Carter 😄
Thanks so much! Feel like I hear her name so many times but can never remember it haha.
@@nickflix8657 she is Tim Burton’s wife and they work w/ Johnny Depp in so many films:D
@@eride404_ I was gonna mention the wife part too but I wasn't entirely sure if it was true or just something I'd heard 😅

@@shismith8785 I correct myself, they divorced a few years ago but apparently they live in different areas of the same mansion 👀
